I had this car last week and it has a killer engineering flaw; the steering wheel is not aligned with the front tires. but when i contacted other Jetta's owners I found out that it is a flaw and not a a rare case as VW customer care claimed. Buying this means throwing your money in a trash can

This car is a little geriatric for my tastes, and I just know it will be infested all sorts of quality bugs. Would much rather get a Mazdaspeed3 w/tech package. I had a 2007 GTI, and it was a fun car, but did have some issues. In the first year, the air conditioner stopped working, the driver's seat froze in its tracks, check engine light came on, as well as rattles from the dash. It also guzzled synthetic oil like it was going out of style.

@rosshezz the only difference in interior quality is that the dashboard is now soft touch (like on the old jetta) instead of the hard. Instead of the hard brittle plastic on the standard jetta

i dont know much about stick shifts, but howcome, everybody jigles the shifter around more than needed, instead of just putting it in place? like at 1:12

@jmichael1holmes when the shifter is in the middle between the fore and aft positions, it means that the transmission is in neutral, when he moves it side to side, he is checking that it is in neutral before starting the engine. When the shifter is placed either forward or rearward in any of the numbered positions, the vehicle is in gear and will move if the clutch pedal is released. Let me know if I can answer any other questions you may have about stick shifts since I am an expert.

Kyle or anyone who has an answer why did you put the car in 1st gear after leaving the driver seat? Can't you just leave it in Neutral? And is it better to leave it in 1st or Neutral?

@counkev It's better to leave it in first gear. If your parking brake fails, you have a backup. It's kind of like leaving an automatic in park.

@counkev As counkev says, it is like a back up in case you handbrake/parking brake fails. I leave it in neutral and handbrake on if parked on level ground. I put it in 1st is the front of the car is facing uphill, and put in reverse gear if car is facing downhill. Hope that helps.

Actually nearly every car turns off airbags, if there isnt someone on the seat wich the airbag is designed for. Every VW does that, I think only in the US-models the light shows you that some airbags are turned off.

Put this car on the dyno and you will see that the advertised 200hp is a conservative number. The Hyundai Genesis Turbo would lose to a street race against this check out all the videos of Genesis losing to Gti's. And a 600 dollar ecu flash bumps up power to over 250hp and 290lb ft on stock parts.
