I really don't see how one can complain if they eat other kinds of meat. Pigs can be loyal too. True that its not to the degree of most dogs, but their intelligence is definitely comparable. As for cats... I see no excuse for backing up those self-centered arrogant little creatures. Mind you I do own cats myself and I love them.

I am not so much against them eating these animals as I am against the way the poor animals are treated and killed.There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for the animals to have to suffer. Boiled alive? Fear makes them taste better? If that isn't sick, I don't know what is! All "food" animals deserve, at the very least, humane treatment during life and a humane death. Eating meat does not advocate the torture of animals of any kind. It advocates the death of animals for consumption. It is possible to buy welfare friendly meat that is from animals that have been treated well before death and killed as humanely as possible. I did not say I thought any animal was dumb. You mentioned intelligence as a factor relating to cruelty. I believe that cruelty relates to sentience not intelligence.

That is like saying that every gun owner is responsible for every death by gunfire. We are only responsible for choices we make. If I were vegetarian these dogs would still be in pain. There is another big fundamental difference. Granted, turkeys are hunted and eaten for the sake of "Thanksgivings," the USA holiday. In some Asian histories, dogs were eaten since long time ago and considered a very high quality food.
Europeans probably considered dogs as their companions since the start. The start for some Asian countries were different, however. It's just like not everyone in the world thinks the same. It's just differences in the historical backgrounds in countries.
