Had this album when it was released, it was a great solo effort, but unfortunately the demise of Journey. This song had some great instrumentation too.
I closed my eyes to wholly hear and absorb the unique tones and depth of his art—as all-encompassing to me as when I gazed from the view of Monet's Japanese bridge at Giverny above the water lilies and watched the willows dance in the breeze as it ruffled my hair, soaking in the fragrance of the foliage wafting through the air and listened to the birds do their original rendition of song. For those few minutes, everything else in the world disappeared...

so much emotion when this man sings..it all comes through...this song was underrated and this is a better song ( IMO) than ' oh sherry'..this one should have gotten all the play ....steve, God gave you a fabulous gift with that voice..that is for sure....
Such a Great Great tune Probably my favorite solo work by Steve.. It also features the Great Guitar work And that TONE of the one and only Michael Landau. A true studio master.
@sr71bbgb you got that right buddy! landau is super player on many albums in the 80's and 90's.like lukather in demand for style and class for cher, mike bolton, wilson phillips, chicago, boz scaggs, richard marx.this tune also a fave of mine a beautiful song with emotion and superb playing from mike with larry londin slamming the skins exquisite!!!
steve changed his voice to a lower register on purpose because he said in an interview during escape album everyone copied his voice or tried to and some dude won a grammy copying his style ..thats why on frontiers his voice is different ...only great singers can change their voice like michael jackson. steve perry
It does when you sing as much as he did. Touring will strain your voice pretty bad. Especially with a group like Journey. Those ar e some hard songs to sing when there are 20 of them every night.
@droogyz8 mike landau on guitars a buddy of steve lukather of toto both were in demand in late 70's and 80's for sessions with chicago, cher ,don henley etc.!!
I am so happy to hear this. this is the single version it's a little hotter and larry is a little bit more up. the thing he does at 3:33 oh my god. I think this is one of the best drum tracks ever recorded very with the music choppin it up and movin it out. wow
one of the SEXIEST songs EVER and that Steve put out... love the sax and Steve's voice OF COURSE...
"I heard her call out your name... late last night in her sleep..." She's MINE all MINE... sorry lol
SO SO HOT, Steve is... Love Journey, my #1 band, Steve "the VOICE" Perry, but I do admit to loving Arnel too, BUT NO ONE could EVER really "replace" our SP... miss ya Steve... come back and do some more music... PLEASE! (:
really haunting tune from an excellent album 1984 a good year ,still good stuff around on the radio .i love mike landau,s guitar the successor to steve lukather on the session scene at that time.chocolate!!
yes ithink larry died the same year as jeff porcaro .larry played with a tight sound and the crash cymbals particularly on she's mine atmospheric. larry also on glenn frey alnighter album on tracks sexy girl and i got love ,using a heavier snare sound .cheers dude
My CD player in my car is burnin' with Steve's songs! Got his Greatest Hits CD & this song, he sings with feeling, passion & that sexyness of his! Hands down: Priceless!!!

Best song on this album. "Oh Sherry" was great, of course, but this song is the unrecognized gem. I play this one three times a day - regularly. Underrated, unappreciated vocalist this man was.
...thats why I am here again, on a sunday afternoon. "Theres something about this song that just never gets old no matter how many times you listen to it" as a friend just said 2 days ago
agree with you..to me all Journey's songs sang by Steve Perry and all steve perry's solos never gets old. no matter how many time you listen to it, you will never get enough. I listen to his voice 24 hrs a day! and it's still not enough. Steve Perry is amazing. Words can not describe how much I adore him. He is best of he best! The Master of (Classic) Rock!
Today I just needed to come back to this video and listen to this again. This is one of my all time favorites from Steve Perry. Theres something about this song that just never gets old no matter how many times you listen to it.

ocean4315, no need to apologize. It is sad that the days of the real radio play are gone. There are still tons of stations but they play the same stuff over and over and over again. If your not into Hip Hop or Rap your almost out of luck. This is one of my favorites of Steve solo. The entire story that this song tells is great. I have even used some of the lyrics - seen you creeping around, dont hang around here no more- etc to run some undesireables off of some of Steve videos. lol...It worked to. Love you Steve.
and neal had always something to complain about after the release of all their work since perry joined the band. but i'm sure he wasn't complaining about the royalty checks he was getting compared to what he's been getting since the realease of arrival. considering a lot of things had gone wrong during the production of ror, it still did very well commercially. even perry admitted he regrets making those mistakes and would not travel that same path if given the chance again.
absolutely. steve and neal would have battled if steve shove this down his throat. that's why it made more sense for steve to do street talk on his own. musically, street talk is a pretty solid album.
Some truly fine session work on this album. In addition to the contributions of Larrie, Bob Glaub lays down some very tasteful and interesting bass lines.
yeah but I guarantee that neal would have complained that it didnt rock hard enough. hell ROR was pretty much "street talk part 2" and neal said that he never like ROR too much. from what i hear Neal wasn't a fan of Trial by fire either.
No Steve is Steve and Journey is Journey. Oh don't get me wrong I LOVE STEVE!!! Yes he was the best lead man for Journey, but he had to move on as so did Journey.

I always loved the guitar solo on this tune.
It's understated and so passionate (session ace Michael Landau, I think). The quality of musicianship and vocals is also evident.
I along with many others on youtube yearn for the time when you could turn on the radio and hear really good music played and sung by good musicians.
There wasn't the cookie cutter approach to music that there is now.You could hear R&B,Jazz,Soul,Rock. If it's not hit worthy, it won't get on now.
Sorry for the rant.
