Who cares which style it is? It's his style and it sounds good. It's obviously a variation of clawhammer as I can hear that ring on the 5th. Sounds close to the grandpa version. I wish the haters would post themselves playing.
Good, but you never use Scrugg style on clawhammer. See friend, claw hammer is the traditional way to play the banjo. Scruggs picking isn't the right way. When that style came out people started to quit playing because it got to hard. Before that they had banjo orchastras and many people played the banjo. Just remember claw hammer is the right way to play a banjo.

il ike your straight ahead clahammer approach and I can tell I you've worked it out for yourself. I am damn tired of hearing over melodic clawhammer that is too pretty but sounds anemic as hell. You've got the rhythm and the drive - that's what counts in my book.
