I never knew that lucas directed AG...but I'm not surprised considering that the unknown actor who played Bob Falfa (driving the '55 chevy) ended up, also playing, Han Solo.
This is an absolutely brilliant work of art, and has stood the test of time to become a classic. It is very moving and heartfelt on so many levels. It's so sad that such things are so rapidly being lost. What I mean is that you will not find many, if any, pieces such as this one, nowdays, which honestly capture the correct 'feel' of an era and are also so incredibly moving at the same time without being over-blown with mindless garbage.
Well here it is, Friday afternoon April 30 at 3:28 P.M. and as I listen to this beautiful song,...I think how this night, back in the 50's and early 60's, friday,..people were getting ready to go out and have fun, clean fun. It was exciting to gear up for Friday night,...you had friends, good people to do something with. Now,...as I sit here, tonight will be nothing special,...nothing at all! I look at "Graffiti" and WISH things were that way again! My heart grieves what we lost!!
@44skins well said mate, im with you here,if only?? getting geared up for a friday night with good friends?? its been so long for me that i forgot we did that back when, what a shame indeed this place is these days, so lack lustre and dead mate,
my heart grieves at what we had and lost, and for all these new kids that will never know what you and i do,but what a time it was to grow up, makes me smile, thanks mate..down under
The movie hit a nostalgic cord right at the start with casting Ronny Howard as the lead. He'd grown up from a child in every American home. Hard to believe they were looking back on the good ol days 12 years back. Can you imagine a movie about 1998 with all those cool cars and songs? Who on earth would care. Someday a pre 9 - 11 movie might ring a chord though.
I watched American Graffiti over 30 times at the theatre when it came out. I have find it still to be in my heart and soul. I bought a piss yellow ( punk green) duece when I was in high school shortly after watching the movie. I also still have my 50's setup slot car set with my customized 32. If anyone didn't like the movie they are in A wrong era. I'm going to relive my high school yrs and watch it tonight.I also met Candy and Paul. Both wonder people. What a great CLEAN fun movie for all
When I came home from first seeing this film when I was 16, I stayed up till 2 a.m. retelling my little sister the entire story with as much of the dialogue as I could recall. Then I took her to see it that weekend. All I could think was how come Curt Henderson didn't go to my school - he was my dream boy - cute, sensitive, intelligent. Still love Dreyfuss with a passion!
Very good, love the movie. This could have used a whole lot less Ron Howard and a whole lot more Paul Le Mat...but thats just my opinion. I could be a little biased LOL.
George Lucas knocked it outta the park with this one!!! C´mon Georgie Lucas baby, drop the CGI crap and get back to making some real all American flicks!!! Lucas rules!!!
I love this thanks for posting the video. Cindy williams is awesome. The song is also so pretty.I am a big fan of Cindy Williams. Keep the videos coming!!!
i think the times call for such a film. i tire of overblown explosions of the visual variety (however stimulating or well done) and long for the more complex, more subtle explosions, that which happens between people...such as in the aforementioned film...
@apeneckfletcher Me too pal! I am so burned out by all of this whole,....."blue screen" crap. Stuff thats not even there in reality,...it's just ADDED BY COMPUTER after filming is done. And dont get me going on this "CGI" process either! Ya know,.....THERE IS NO SOUL OR SPIRIT IN FILM MAKING ANYMORE!!
When people criticized Lucas's ability to direct actors, I always pointed out "American Graffiti" as an example of how good he is with the actors. The acting in "American Graffiti" is very nuanced, and my understanding is that Lucas worked hard to get that kind of subtle stuff out those actors. I agree with you, Lucas should go back to directing "people movies", now that he has made his marks in the special-effects-laden sci-fi films.

Charlie Martin Smith (Toad) made a very overlooked movie from 1983 (i think) called Never Cry Wolf, check it out.

Agreed. "Never Cry Wolf" is a magnificent movie directed by Carroll Ballard who gave us "The Black Stallion" previously.
