Social networking has its pros and cons. The pros: 1) It's a fast way to connect to people all over. 2) You can find out things about people without having to ever speak to them
The cons: 1) It has pulled people apart, i.e. the connections you make are not as strong (apathy) with any true feelings or emotions, because emotions get misconstrued or left out via email, texting, networking, etc. resulting in break ups of relationships/friendships, misunderstanding, confusion, etc. 2) Laziness

Here's what I think about social networking: IT DOESN'T MATTER what I think, because EVERYONE has a different take on it. But honestly speaking, the strengths about social networking is that it is beneficial for companies to advertise, as well as for people with common interests to connect and collab. The weaknesses about social networking is all the arguments, trash talking, drama, hate, blackmail and spamming that tags along with this particular activity.
i think the arguments are great! its great that we can go online and debate with someone about something whenever we want to. and as far as trash talking and all that, some people just need to grow up, but what better forum than an online chat where they can be dumb for a period of time and hopefully eventually grow out of it. i think these sites offer tremendous opportunity for social and spiritual growth. especially when considering arguing and trash talking.

Networking sites have been used mostly for casual purposes by friends, it's great for professional networking as well. Although I don't find it too useful to BUILD connections, I have used it in many occasions to MAINTAIN connections in which I briefly meet people (my 'world' so to speak is classical music, percussion specifically). One of the challenges that is associated with networking sites though is that sometimes your professional life and your personal life mix in ways you don't want.

And I also think too many people spend time on their cell phones as well. I only carry mine around for when I need it, nothing more; I can make 240 minutes last over 4 months. No, in the sense that we are very pre-occupied with our 'gadgets' and we are not 'in the moment' with our lives.
In meetings I see people text. In movies I see people working their i phone. I see people in their cars paying attention to their GPS or their phone and not the road. Let's just say this 'modern new world' is not the best one in many ways, not to me.

Networking sites have been used mostly for casual purposes by friends, it's great for professional networking as well. Although I don't find it too useful to BUILD connections, I have used it in many occasions to MAINTAIN connections in which I briefly meet people (my 'world' so to speak is classical music, percussion specifically). One of the challenges that is associated with networking sites though is that sometimes your professional life and your personal life mix in ways you don't want.

The one good thing is I know more about current events and possible near future events politically and spiritually because TV usually lacks providing us with both facts and speculation. I think it's a mixture of both. I'm 15 so I see a lot of people completely obsessed. On the other hand, I think it's a great way to keep in touch and see how people have changed over time. I am one of the few people who rarely go on my FB from my school, but I check every once and a while. I think of it more of a tool than a social gathering site.

Even with the negatives that r present with these sites, a lot of people that may have been out committing crimes r better off at home talking shit to each other online.. I too agree that too much technology, ie internet/cellphones etc. are making the newer generations not only mentally weak, but physically weak. Want to fix this problem? i dont work everyday. and me and my friends dont go "out" the farthest we'll go is to each others houses and we game. or we just dont leave our houses and just play Halo or WoW over the internet or play completely different games at the same time. and i get 5-6 hrs of sleep a night on average. not wats recommended but im rebel of sorts im in control of my body not the other way around i decide wen im tired or hungery not the other way around.

@zgirl777 I second you. I love my computers and all, but I always try to make time to leave the house and do something with other people. And I also think too many people spend time on their cell phones as well. I only carry mine around for when I need it, nothing more; I can make 240 minutes last over 4 months. But when I see people making a quick text on their phones while at school or work, it makes me wish there was a much more strict rule that involved those phones and a hammer.

no social networking sites have not relly made the world a better place . alll it has done is to let people whith the same pollitical ideology meet and control the polls on topics such as gay rights

social networking has done nothing but ruin MY life. Because of facebook, my mom cheated on my dad with some random guy she met online and now my life sucks complete dick and im only 14 years old

It wasn't because of facebook she cheated.. Facebook just made it way easier. She would have ended up cheating with our without facebook :)
