don't care if they were all hopped up on dope, that first acceleration by beltran and chechu is a thing of beauty. absolutely destroyed the field that day.
shit dude, I remember watching 2003 Tour in my house... enjoying every mountain stages like if it would be the FIFA world cup final... jumping off the couch on every attack... those were beautiful days, those guys were fucking beasts... but now, the tour is so fucking borin with those clowns like contador, schleck, evans, etc..
@bonaje7 If he wasn't so stupid to stop afer armstrong's crash in Luz ardiden he would've won that tour easily. But he was so weak mentally even to do a dumb thing like that.
everybody wanted to see tour de france. i has my bachelor exams and i was keeping studied beside.to see every stage.i love tour de france with armstrong.ullrich.vino.basso.mayo.beloki. those stars make tour de france famous around the whole world...it was amazing...not like now..thans my stars..thks armstrong
I think it were the riders which made it much more exciting these days! Ullrich, Beloki, Hamilton. They were stars. And now there aren't any riders of such a charisma left...
@woodstock321 Yeah it is unfortunate that those riders are no longer racing or at the same level after a ban from the sport... It would make it much more exciting if they were still around.
@bustedbojangles It's double standard that exists in sport. Professional athletes, under bodies like NFL, FIFA, NBA, etc., are not held to the same standard. The claim is they are policed, but their respective leagues would die if they were completely clean. The IOC is the most corrupt sporting body in the world, yet makes extreme demands on their athletes. Here's another idea: allow drug use, but regulate it. Put in all on the table where is can be seen. Sport will improve as a result.
In a interview for the Versus hosts of Tour De France, Lance stated that over the radio he was saying "Slow" to Heras who pulled him and he heard it as "Goo". He also stated it to be his worst time on a bike ever.
do you remember the last time trial? the diference betwenn amstrong and ulrich was 1 minute, but after some km, was reduced few seconds, and after, the crash. What could happen if there not be a rain that day?, nobody know
They dominate running from 800m to marathon. Trust me, you need a lot of power in your legs to run a world class time at 800 or 1500meters. Kenya produces about 20 new guys every year who are world class at these distances. They would dominate TT, mountains, everything.
That's silly talk, hansgackl. You obviously know nothing about endurance sport and the necessary physical requirements for an event like the Tour de France. The North Africans are much better equiped for cycling than any American or European. Cycling is virtually non-existant over there. They don't have the roads or the bikes, plus they all want to be runners. But trust me, if a fraction of the talent that turns to running were to turn to cycling they would totally dominate.
Honestly, this just isn't realy interesting. I love cycling but all of these guys were absolutely pumped up to the gills with every sort of cheating device/drug they could get their hands on. The top 20 guys sprinting up alpe duez in times 20% faster than the likes of Fignon, Roche, Lemond. World class sport just doesn't move forward en masse at that speed. It's disgusting.
you are absolutely right... Armstrong wasn´t so good, but tour average speed in year 2003 was existing record, that proves existing best quality of this tour..
the first one is called "Dread rock" by Oakenfold and the second one is "Zion" by Fluke. You'll find them both on the soundtrack album of Matrix Reloaded!
That was an exciting stage, drugs or not. I wish Ullrich didn't have a flat, and he would have been up there to possibly cause more mayhem... This is good cycling to watch, if you try to ignore the drugs.
armstrong was the closest of the favorites to the yellow jersey before the stage, BUT he lost time to both mayo and vinokourov, one of the favorites. That never happened in the previous years!
Wow, so many dopers though... Seriously. Mayo, Ullrich, Hamilton, Vinokourov, Pantani, even Armstrong (think about it, it is just to hard to believe that he was clean if he is desroying all these rivals who were caught doping)... This video is kindof dark if you think about it.
Si no hubiera caído Beloki...
btw: the nice rubiera you can see in this video is still riding in the peleton, but all others did close the dope-gap that existed between us postal and them
Thx, the first one is called "Dread rock" by Oakenfold and the second one is "Zion" by Fluke. You'll find them both on the soundtrack album of Matrix Reloaded!

EPO, blood doping, HGH, testosterone, IGF-1...
Amazing watching these guys practically sprint up one of the hardest climbs in the world, after 180km of hard racing.
I miss the days of no helmets though, at least up the final climb. The rest of the course I can see why they are mandatory.

I don't think so. in france there are living 100'000s of north africans, if not millions.
but not even 1 of them became a pro cyclist, and that in the country of the tour...
lampsy8 2 years ago
no i don´t think so. africans do not have that power in their legs for a long time trial
hansgackl 2 years ago
Honestly, if the Kenyans and Ethiopians ever take to cycling they will wipe out the Europeans and Americans, without drugs.
gameradf118 2 years ago
well in an ethnic view (white) americans are europeans.
and there are kenyans and ethiopians who are living in the usa and europe.
none of these children ever reached pro status in cycling. but it would be a great way to become rich for them.
i also read about one who cycles track locally- he is really the peoples favorit but always way behind the best
