Call me a complete nerd or whatever but it's currently 1:50 AM and I've just spent the last 45 minutes getting all three sections of the Shii-Cho form down. It's pretty cool. XD
I would suggest trying to show us Soresu, this is a form that I have researched for some time and would like to see your interpretation of it. I think it is a very efficient from because of the strong focus of defense.
it would be very hard to demon strate it unless you had real blasters and 5 people shooting at you with them at once, but i guess it could also be possible to do it with another jedi opponent but very difficult
ny jedi actuly does have a soressu form. search for it using ny jedi soressu and u can find multiple videos of it. i even have a few vids on it my self.
The gentleman's reverse angle cuts (going from low to high) are very good, but he needs to work on angling the regular angle cuts so they utilize the reach that his weapon has. He's leading a bit too much with his hands and letting his weapon follow. It should be the other way around.
Probably a result of the majority of the practice these people get being in stage fighting and touch sparring, they have to really control the momentum and strength of the swing to avoid hurting each other and breaking the expensive toys.
Or if you want a canon theory: Isn't a lightsaber blade without mass? With the handle being the only part with weight, Jedi would be hard pressed to follow the momentum of the blade and instead lead all the strikes from the hand?
It seems as though in the films, Shii-Cho is really all they use 80% of the time. There are obvious exceptions, like during the Dooku/Yoda duels, Anakin's brief usage of Ataru in exchange for Jar'Kai with duel blades, Some of Palpatine's stunts, and Mustafar (for the most part), but really, it all seems highly based of this, with a few minor skips and jumps here and there, which I suppose is the point anyway.
The man in the video, Damon Honeycutt, is currently working on Form V and trying to make a kata (sequence) so it can be taught and hopefully put up on Youtube. He'll be finished in the 3rd week of September I believe.
