itzy the show was at The Abyss on Washington Ave which shut down i believe due to numerous fire code violations one of which being no working AC. they would set up these giant fans on the sides of the stage to try to cool people down but i did get sick there a bunch of times. The last show there was with local bands given fail maybe terminally ill i cant remember but the fire
@itzyoboialex it was at the abyss on washington ave. not a great venue but was good enough for a few thousand people to have a good time at. also saw the deftones there in november of 97 with far and will haven. the abyss was shut down i believe for numerous fire code violations such as no operating central AC. i would get sick nearly every time i was at the abyss for a big show (not for incubus though i'm guessing the venue was about 1/3 full.) i was at the final show at the abyss when..
...the fire marshall came in and shut it down during i believe local band Given's set. kinda fuzzy on what other bands played, i know Fail was there, Lower, possibly terminally ill and I-45, but it was a great show for the time. a ton of people showed up for a bill of nothing but local acts. the place was pretty packed. definitely puked that night from the heat. the abyss was a decent place for shows but it certainly had its fair share of negatives.
A little bit of creative differences, a little more of him wanting to raise a family. They're still neighbors and chill together, as well as the first DJ.
The first DJ is actually quite bitter to the band and pretty naive to anything regarding post-SCIENCE Incubus. DJ Kilmore has two separate restraining orders against him. Both for him pretty much threatening violence or death at kilmore, the first of which included DJ Lyfe spitting in Kil's face. Also Dirk and Brandon supposedly fought all the time and the song Leech is widely considered to be a "fuck you" from Brandon to Dirk.
@zausS4L Possibly, I suppose only the Incubus guys know for 100% sure. Judging by Leech being on the album directly after Dirk's departure I would personally lean towards saying it's more likely to be about Alex than Lyfe. It just seems to me that if Brandon wanted to write a song about Lyfe it would have probably been done on Make Yourself or Morning View...but don't hold me to my word, this all nothing more than speculation.
I've gotta say that I also prefer Dirk to Ben. I tend to judge bass players more favorably when they play with more of an aggressive tone, similiar to the difference between Paul D'moar(sp?) and Justin Chancellor in Tool. They're both great musicians, but they're also completely different. Apple vs. Orange.
If I had my way, Incubus would start playing funky music again. Listening to Oil and Water after something like Speak Free or Psychopsilocybin or Deep Inside makes me want to cut myself.
They have progressed so much more as a band though, songs like Sick Sad Little World and Rogues are nothing short of exceptional. Also, Ben is a fine player, if you watch the 'Alive at Red Rocks' dvd, you will see this. He is also a great backing vocalist.
@mwellbass they defiantly changed as a band I still love them but these were the days. Also the old bassist is WAY better than Ben. He was one of the best bassist on the scene when Incubus first came around.
it doesn't matter, I'm sure Ben Kenney would come up with some cool groovy bass line like he always does. But u know, there's not much slapping and popping in Azwethinkweiz, the pops are so simple in azwethinkweiz. Do you even know how to play the bass parts in that song???? Ben would be able to play that. But who cares. Ben would maybe come up with something else that's also awesome...!!!
i agree incubus does and has rocked always, and i do play the bass i wasnt really suggesting just the azwethinkweiz has slap and pop but older songs do have alot but dirk had a unique style of play he played his strings more aggresively then most and he played right over the pickups which gave a more pop sound even without actually popping but ben is a good musician but he really kinda ruined certain shade of green, without slap its kind of empty and hollow, needs more filler but hes alright
yeah, the Ben kenney version of a Certain Shade of Green wasn't as good as the original...it's a funky music anyway, which really needed slappin n poppin...But anyway, i liked how they changed the solo part with the long DJ solo. ARRRGGHH!!!!....they always come up with something good...can't deny that...hehehe...
yeah...Ben's alright...he's just different from Dirk, u can't really compare them...
yeah azwethinkweiz doesn't have a slap bassline, but many other old school songs do, in which case I agree. Kenney can't slap. Dirk is a superior bass player, but Kenney is more of an all around kind of dude. I still prefer older shit.
Eizingier is just one of best guitarists ever

azwethinkweiz would require slap and pop which ben keneey is a good musician plays many instruments, does not have a slap hand hes not able to slap
