I don't understand it either. I guess they do the airport x-ray vision (a term that I call it) to make it look cool. I personally like this version of his x-ray vision better.

But getting back to the two different forms of x-ray visions, I'm guessing that Clark has two types of x-ray vision that he can use any time he wants.
