Oh god, this brings back memories. He was one of the toughest, if not THE toughest boss I've ever encountered. I remember sitting on the couch, trying to stop him in the three fights, sweating like a sportsman. And then the excitement to beat him, only to get beaten by him in direct combat. It was so intense. You wanted to beat the crap out off him because what he had done to the nation and your people. I will never forget him.

I love Luca Blight, but I've gotta admit, he's out of place as a Suikoden villain. Suikoden "bad guys" aren't usually Kefka-level killers. More like an equivalent, but opposite viewpoint of the hero.
@zephyrblayze That's pretty much why Jowy exists as your antagonist then. Luca Blight, like Kefka, is someone you're supposed to hate. You get your shades of gray with Jowy, but anyone can see how black Luca is. So it feels A-okay to butcher the remorseless murderer.

The are two of the best villains I've ever seen and both are excellent fighters. BUT, if you had to pick one, who do you think would win? @DAWells1983 Well.. there is no-way comparing their strength due to completely different game world, but I vote for Luca, as he is really an incarnation of cruelty and horror... Both was twisted minded villain who was killed on one-on-one duel with the protagonist, but while I EASILY killed Sephiroth (I think it was about pressing "O" three times), I really felt anxious on the duel against severely wounded Luca... Defeating Luca give me more satisfaction than killing Sephiroth. :D

Sephiroth wins in magic, hands down. Physical strength is too close to call. So overall...too close to call.
@skyknightdragon Endurance test? Its not really fair to bring in Knights of the Round. People always say that but in all honesty, you have to work your butt off to even get that spell and then work even harder to Max the spell out so you can finish sephiroth in one round. There is no super powerful spell like that in Suikoden 2 or else Luca would fall just as fast. Try beating Sephiroth without it and see how hard it is and how many teams you go through. Very tough.
@skyknightdragon Actually the first two round is just to show Luca as very strong......but thats the story....in reality hes very easy XP....I mean if you think of it in a story pov, hes super strong that can tank 3 party and hundreds of arrows....but if you think of it in game's pov....he is super easy.

@NoiMethulas That's not it. Two desparate attacks from Luca and your health bar is down to single digits. He just does a lot of damage, even when you have, at that point in the game, the best equipment you can get.
I tested it by giving the wrong answers on purpose, just to see how much damage he could deal.
The first time was hell. The last time I played was easy. All I did is to take those characters who will fight luca to that Forest between the Empire, train them. Give them runes and armor, and that's it.
As soon as Luca gets defeated by one group, he will leave. And fight the next, without getting my party killed.
But man, I so do love this game. My first RPG evah!
Think of it: Sephiroth burns one village, Luca burns like 20. Sephiroth kills a few soldiers and Aeris. Luca kills civilians and laugh about it, doing it for sport. Sephiroth dies by the hands of 3 men. Luca dies by the hands of 18. Now, tell me, do you seriously believe that Sephiroth would even stand the slightest of chances against a mad Luca? I sure as hell do not. :)

Let's stick with facts: Soldier First Class is just a title, and they never ever take down such armies, no matter what you say. Luca performs 10x more brutal and evil (let alone single) actions than Sephiroth. Sephiroth is a grey-haired girl compared to Luca.

I'd have to disagree with you there. There are several Bosses that are more eligible for that distinction. Kefka, Giegue, the youngster from Pokemon Games that is obsessed with shorts... Well, perhaps not that last one, but you should get my point.

I've not played Suikoden 2 in a while as I'm currently playing Legend of Legaia. But there is a part in the game where you have a few people defend against Luca Blight correct? If I'm not mistaken it was really hard to beat him during that battle. I was young maybe I was just bad, But I had to train a bunch of people. Once I finally won I assumed I killed him... But no he still stood there comming at my army like they were nothing that really made me shit myself!

My favorite part about Luca is that he was so devastatingly powerful without the use of special runes or weapons.(His fire w/e doesn't count lol.) Most head honchos in the suikoden series(Excluding Troy and I don't count the godwins, they were weak until the sun rune) use True Runes for power. Luca just kicked ass.
I have played Suikoden 2 for many years and I completed all SOD and got Forgiver Sign and I still love it but the only thing I can't complete here is the Clives Quest where you have to complete the quest fast and all the Recipes all those years and still not done (sigh)...
Im glad i kept this game and the original cause they are epic, suikoden 2 i must of played it about 50 times hope you get to play it one day cause your missing out.

@NoiMethulas Yeah, Neclord stood no chance against Luca. Ok, Neclord can't be killed without Special Seals (or whatever) and Luca can't possibly perform them, but it doesn't matter, he would easily chop Neclord into pieces and chop again and again and again, makes Neclord felt that immortality is indeed a curse. (lol)
I have yet to experience emotion while fighting a boss in any game like I did while fighting Luca Blight my first time playing Suikoden 2. The Suikoden series is unmatched in making the player feel emotions.
Luca Blight was tough yeah, but the character was a mental case big time who lacked any humanity whatsoever, making him a perfect antagonist for any story. :)

Luca Blight is actually somewhat based off a real person, read up on Xiang Yu in Chinese History, the two are remarkably similiar invincible warriors that are feared for their wars of terror, betrayed by their subordinates and left to die..Of course Xiang Yu died by slicing his own throat after losing the only battle in his entire military career.
@Othaur Obviously. But there is one crucial difference between them... Xiang Yu let his personal relationship clouded his judgement, he charged on although he knew about the trap set against him... He foolishly get ambushed and commit suicide. Luca wasn't a romantic hero, he was pure evil incarnation. Luca will not commit suicide because he will fight to the death.
The best Villain RPG world ever saw, I played it all, had it all (Atari, Nintendo 64, Sega, Saturn, Game Boy, Game Gear, PSX, DreamCast, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox360, Nintendo Cube) so trust me, I have seen em all, and no villain in gaming history holds a candle to Luca Blight.
Without a doubt one of the greatest boss battles of all time. Eighteen of your best characters, volley after volley of arrows, and you still have to take him on one on one to put the bastard down.
if you've been speed running on the game and have not been leveling up enough, this battle against luca blight will definitely be memorable for you. the first time you battle him, most would probably say, hey this is so unfair. he have super high hp and can attack multiples of your ally twice per turn with an awesome animation. ^^

Luca Blight is a crazy son of a bitch. Awesome character over all though - and if you have Tir McDohl in your party at the end of the game, he's -definately- harder than the last boss.
Hehe, Humphrey with Fire Sealing rune and you can't lose against Luca =D It's a great battle though, I hated it the first time I got to it, started to think it wasn't possible to win xD
Out of the hundred's of games i have played, Luca Blight is one of the most memorable villains i have ever seen, he has no special power or anything unique about him, he is just strong and insane(and a douche)
The crappiest thing about him is he get 3 turns and use AoE skill on you most of the time not mention his 50% magic reduction defense. Sadly, Mcdohl can only be recruited after his defeat.
Well, of course. If you could use Tir against Luca it would still be epic, but not as Epic.
Tir was only in the game as a bonus to people who beat the first game properly and kept the save on their memory card. If he was a normal recruit this game would be seriously broken cuz the Souleater owns all in this game. It's not even a challenge at that point.
That on the things i loved on Suikoden. The battle´s against the Evil in sort of Chain Battle´s with more then one Group.
So you MUST train then 5 chars to do it

I've not played Suikoden 2 in a while as I'm currently playing Legend of Legaia. But there is a part in the game where you have a few people defend against Luca Blight correct? If I'm not mistaken it was really hard to beat him during that battle. I was young maybe I was just bad, But I had to train a bunch of people. Once I finally won I assumed I killed him... But no he still stood there comming at my army like they were nothing that really made me shit myself!

Damn, I was so... AFRAID of the battle with Luca Blight every time when I was playing this 6-7 years ago...
I didn't have ANY strategy then, I didn't have any plan or anything...
That's why I considered it a miracle everytime I DID beat him. :)

My favorite part about Luca is that he was so devastatingly powerful without the use of special runes or weapons.(His fire w/e doesn't count lol.) Most head honchos in the suikoden series(Excluding Troy and I don't count the godwins, they were weak until the sun rune) use True Runes for power. Luca just kicked ass.

I have played Suikoden 2 for many years and I completed all SOD and got Forgiver Sign and I still love it but the only thing I can't complete here is the Clives Quest where you have to complete the quest fast and all the Recipes all those years and still not done (sigh)...

Ok, Neclord can't be killed without Special Seals (or whatever) and Luca can't possibly perform them, but it doesn't matter, he would easily chop Neclord into pieces and chop again and again and again, makes Neclord felt that immortality is indeed a curse. (lol)

I have yet to experience emotion while fighting a boss in any game like I did while fighting Luca Blight my first time playing Suikoden 2. The Suikoden series is unmatched in making the player feel emotions.

Luca Blight was tough yeah, but the character was a mental case big time who lacked any humanity whatsoever, making him a perfect antagonist for any story. :)
playing the suikoden series kind of makes me want to read the translated version of the chinese literature that the suiko games were inspired by.(the water margin) 108 demons cast from heaven who atone their deeds and are rewarded by being born as 108 heros on earth to fight injustice.

Luca Blight is actually somewhat based off a real person, read up on Xiang Yu in Chinese History, the two are remarkably similiar invincible warriors that are feared for their wars of terror, betrayed by their subordinates and left to die..Of course Xiang Yu died by slicing his own throat after losing the only battle in his entire military career.

@Othaur Obviously. But there is one crucial difference between them... Xiang Yu let his personal relationship clouded his judgement, he charged on although he knew about the trap set against him... He foolishly get ambushed and commit suicide. Luca wasn't a romantic hero, he was pure evil incarnation. Luca will not commit suicide because he will fight to the death.

The best Villain RPG world ever saw, I played it all, had it all (Atari, Nintendo 64, Sega, Saturn, Game Boy, Game Gear, PSX, DreamCast, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox360, Nintendo Cube) so trust me, I have seen em all, and no villain in gaming history holds a candle to Luca Blight.

Without a doubt one of the greatest boss battles of all time. Eighteen of your best characters, volley after volley of arrows, and you still have to take him on one on one to put the bastard down.

if you've been speed running on the game and have not been leveling up enough, this battle against luca blight will definitely be memorable for you. the first time you battle him, most would probably say, hey this is so unfair. he have super high hp and can attack multiples of your ally twice per turn with an awesome animation. ^^

The crappiest thing about him is he get 3 turns and use AoE skill on you most of the time not mention his 50% magic reduction defense. Sadly, Mcdohl can only be recruited after his defeat.

Well, of course. If you could use Tir against Luca it would still be epic, but not as Epic.
Tir was only in the game as a bonus to people who beat the first game properly and kept the save on their memory card. If he was a normal recruit this game would be seriously broken cuz the Souleater owns all in this game. It's not even a challenge at that point.
