  • I thought this was crap until I connected a convertor box to my sony tv....wow what a picture I have now. there's no more snow...ghosts etc like with the old system.

And if you can get a convertor box with the S-Video connection that's the best.

Look at the back of your set see if it has a round connector with 4 pins.

  • Don't do it! It's a government conspiracy. This digital signal will reprogram your children.

  • Your right. Before they went digital my kids did what they were told. Since the digital conversion, they are doing things to dismantel the govermental agency of all things pc. I hope they can try and regain the souls of the nightmare factor on fiction street.

  • Officially, today, the nation has completely converted to digital TV.

  • And still to this day, I still havent heard a valuable/reasonable answer to why this switch is necessary. They say we have better picture or quality, to me nothing has changed even though I have yet to own a flat screen or HDTV although I do have Comcast and they are a waste. They want me to buy one of their converters to receive certain channels regardless of cable subscription. The government has raped us rapidly with a big dick and we cant call 911 to tell them who attacked us.

  • Do you want to know the truth?

The truth is just plain simple (no conspiracy theory or something like that):

Right now, channels are transmitting in both frequencies (VHF and UHF, one for digital and one for analog). When the digital switch-over is complete, the VHF band will be free.

Then, the free spectrum (VHF band) is going to be bidded to the best bidder to offer different communications services (such as massive wireless Internet, for example).

  • they say its for the safety of our country BULLSHIT thats right bullshit its just a scam to rip people off and making 100 million tv fucked what a rip off

  • comcast said you dont have to do nothing,,, not true,,they give you a comcast digital tuner, even if you have a digital TV ,,,, a friend of mine got a $400 dollar all digital TV a month ago and he had to install a comcast box , and he's on limited cable package,,that package is almost $20.00 a month.

how sad,, but oh well, i'm with comcast and i will wait till all my 28 channels are removed by them then i'm going to cancel them and try this idea in this video.

  • Not sure why Comcast telling you this because Comcast is a cable tv provider. If you have cable or satilite you don't need a digital tuner or convertor box.

  • ah ok I get what you're saying.... I thought he already own the comcast box before the digital switch.

  • I don't have an anntena. I have cable. So will I still need the Rca dta 800 converter box????

  • no and yes.

no you dont need one for cable.

yes get a digital tv converter to use as a backup just in case if your cable goes out

  • The DTV transition is nothing but a government plan to brainwash the public.

  • is there's anyway you can prove that??? We are all ready brainwash. Just how much more can they do with dtv transition.

  • the converter goes off after 4 hours is that like an alarm to wake you Up(tv static/no signal) and piss you OFF LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO

  • I wasn't going to say anything more, and I already dread what's going to happen with all of these posts, but to the guy who wants to know what you can receive, I can receive two more stations, butr only if I turn the antenna, or buy a third antenna, because they're in a different direction and I only have two antennas right now, so I'd need a third one to get those two channels. I'll probably be blocked, because of the number of posts, now but that's ok.

  • I'm open to the idea that conspiracy is involved, but the freeing up of airwaves makes sense, and so does the improvement of the technology for important communication. What no one has said here is that this conversion has, and will continue to create jobs: manufacture of the converters, technicians for the digital broadcast, not to mention the spending of cash on digital televisions/cable subscriptions. Yes, people should watch less, but just realize that someone thought this was a GOOD idea.

  • I'm unsure but I think the main "push" for digital TV was that they were starting to run out of frequencies, so they needed to come up with solutions or a solution to the problem, and "narrowing the bandwidth" allows that to happen. What I mean is, before analog was so wide that you could only send one signal, whereas now, with digital TV, the signal is narrower, so they can send three signals using the same "bandwidth" of one channel or frequency.

  • They were looking for frequencies for emergency services for example, and they came up with frequencies to operate the cell phone service, etc., and so they were getting requests for frequencies but were running out of them.

  • Pros: Signal always clear, no "snow," no "ghosting" with strong signals, etc., signal takes less bandwidth so you can send more than one signal at a time, so more channels because even though only one frequency may be assigned to a TV station, except maybe for translator stations, or remote transmitters, etc, they can send more than one program to you at a time, on maybe three channels, like 9-1, 9-2 and 9-3 for example.

  • Cons: If the signal is weak, instead of "snow," you just won't see any signal at all, the signal "acts" like a satellite TV signal in that if the weather is real bad, real cloudy, stormy, etc., the signal sometimes drops out for anywhere from a brief moment to maybe as much as ten minutes or so, just like your 18-Inch satellite signal does. That's all I can think of off the top of my head as the saying goes.

  • skipping to digital tv sounds good BUT we ere still sticked up with a antenna cable wich was officially designed for a b&w annalogue tv. so all digital tv and hd tv channels has to be digitally coded into a annalogue format to fit on the limmited bandwitch, using a losseless compression algoritm will even save more bandwitch.

the decoder converts and decompreses those coded data(even if,s the signal has been damaged asslong it could be indentified) back into digital.

  • As far as the cable goes, I'm using the same cable I had, except for one length that was bad anyway and needed replacing, and I did buy a second TV antenna, but the first one works fine for DTV and it's just a "regular" VHf/UHf TV antenna I had for a few years and I pick up a station that's about 70 miles away just fine and it's rated 90-Miles VHf/50-Miles UHf and as far as the DTV converter boxes go, I don't know much about them, but my guess is that they only "convert" digital to analog...

  • ...convert the incoming digital TV signal to analog, so that those who have TVs that don't have a digital receiver in them can view the digital TV stations/signals sending it to channel 3 or 4, or to the direct composite connections like to the AUX, INPUT, Front, Video1, or whatever your "extra" video input is called, on this TV it's called AUX, and it seems to have a slightly better picture than watching it on channel 3.

  • Silent Sound Spread Spectrum (SSSS)This technology is about to be used, albeit in a more subtle fashion, against American citizens in a highly classified and covert operation to mind control and manipulate the entire population into 'compliance' with our New World order overlords.

  • then why did other countries switch to digital tv?

  • The technology will utilize a combination of HAARP transmitters, GWEN towers, microwave cell phone towers, and the soon-to-be-mandatory High Definition DIGITAL TV that will enter your home via A) Cable, B) Satellite, C) HD TVs, or D) those oh-so-easy -to-obtain "Digital Converter boxes" that the government is so anxious to help you obtain and underwrite most of the cost on your behalf.

  • has any one seen the quality of this so called dtv?

  • yea man, i doubted the quality when they advertised it, than when i finally went out and use the goverment couponds to buy one its pretty awesome, its wayyyyyyyy better than analog, wayyyy clearer and lots! of new channels

  • where do you buy a converter and what kinda new channels are there?

  • The guys talking about what channels and where to buy them, you can find them at places like Walmart and Radio Shack, but if you send for the coupons, like I did, you can get either one or two coupons, for $40.00 each, and if you'd get the boxes I purchased, a Magnavox TB100MW9, at Walmart, or the Tivax STB T9, I purchased at Radio Shack, The Magnavox cost $49.00 or so and the Tivax about $59.00 or so, and personally I prefer the Tivax because of a few reasons...

  • The Magnavox has no buttons, only a switch on the right side to turn the box on, or to put the box inline, so you need to use the remote control to operate it, whereas the Tivax has channel up and down buttons on it, and the signal strengths on the Magnavox seemed weaker that on the Tivax, but I don't know if their meters give the same indication for the same signal strength or not, and I don't know if the Magnavox has "channel addon" like the Tivax has or not, and that would be a great feature.

  • Both boxes can be retuned to "rescan" for DTV channels, but only the Tivax has the feature of doing an add-on channel scan where you don't need to rescan for all channels, only "new" channels, which would be handy, especially if you only have one antenna that needs to be turned to pick up some of your channels, as I don't know how I could do that on the Magnavox, other than to put up another antenna. Also the Tivax has the feature of connecting a Smart Antenna to it, an omni-directional antenna.

  • It scans all directions for DTV channels, so you don't need toi turn it, and you don't need the rotor or multiple antennas, etc., and it would allow you to scan for all DTV channels without having to turn an antenna or to need to buy an antenna to point in every direction of where the TV stations are located, if you live "out in the boondocks" so to speak like I do, quite a distance from the nearest TV stations, but I think they may only have a realiable range of 20 - 30 miles.

  • I apologize for so many posts but I had quite a bit to say...Have a Great Day,

    Bernard.

Oh, almost forgot to say this, I applied at a web site to get the coupons, but I don't think they'd post if I try to post a web address here, so you can view one of my videos where I show the website where I applied for them, but good luck in getting them because at first they were only going to allow you to get them through March sometime, but that may have changed, and only when the expiration date...

  • of unused coupons would be processed, so good luck in getting the coupons. Maybe I'll try putting spaces between the letters numbers and the dots in the address to get it posted. The address for coupon application, with added spaces between the letters so maybe it will post, was: w w w . d t v 2 0 0 9 . g o v and again good luck...Oh yes, another comment to the guy who wanted to know where to get boxes, when you receive the coupons it shows some of the stores where you can buy them. Bye

  • Oh man, sorry again, but one guy asked about what you can receive, for myself I get: 7-1 WSAW (CBS) 7-2 My (Network) TV 7-3 24/7 Weather from Channel 7(CBS) 9-1 WAOW-DT (ABC) 9-2 The CW (A channel which only was only available on Cable TV before digital TV came about) 9-3 THIS-TV (A new channel which only shows movies, a first in this area without Cable/Satellite TV) 13-1 WEAU-DT (NBC) 13-2 24/7 Weather from WEAU 20-1 WHRM-HD (PBS in HD or High Definition) 20-2 WPT2 or The WI Channel
  • 20-2 (from WHRM or PBS) as previously mentioned

20-3 WPT3 or The Create Channel from WHRM or PBS

55-1 WFXS-HD (Fox55 in HD or High Definition)

    and 55-2 WFXS-SD (Fox55 in Standard Definition)

If you want what programming they have, sorry, I've already sent too many posts, so I won't do that.

I'm not going to respond anymore, even though I didn't plan upon saying so much, it just worked out that way.

    Forgive me please for that

    Have a Great Day,

    Bernard

  • hi there..whatpaticular box did you purchase?0

  • So, the government is HANDING OUT discounts for converter boxes? Since when does the government care about TV? The answer is, they don't. It's a brainwashing scam. The government will use the box to spy on people, the same way they do with cell phones.

  • You guys are all fucking idiots, TV is a very important way of communicating information about things the general public needs to know about, for instance this was filmed in Indiana which is very well known for tornadoes that can kill without warning. It is important to warn people when a storm is nearing so that people can stay informed and prepared. They also felt responsible considering they are taking it away in the first place. They can use the frequencies for more important things.

  • VideoGameNerd777 you are right...in fact, it's called SSSS (Silent Sound Spread Spectrum)...it is a way of directing brain waves into your mind subconsiously without you knowing that it is even happening...they used it in the war of Desert Storm and they are now going to use it on the american people

  • folks, if you continue to watch digital TV, you will get what you deserve, this is a warning...turn the tv off AND unplug it, it needs to be unplugged completely from the wall...

  • Because THEY are the ones that have made this necessary. Supposedly to improve emergency communcations, but i've heard ugly rumors that cell phone companies lobbied to free up the air space (which sounds more plausible).

  • Yvonne,

That's a great point. Of all the things people really need...they make sure to help with the "idiot box". It must have everything to do with making sure we stay informed, mind control and using the media to make sure we stay inline. Make sure you watch "zeitgeist" the movie

  • I understand why we will need these converters for TV, but what I don't understand is why the government is helping people out in paying for them? Why do they care if one has a workable TV or not? Do I sound a bit suspicious? Perhaps, but for those who watched the movie "Big Brother" many years ago, it does make one wonder. Could it have something to do with the "New World Order? I am interested in hearing what others think about this.

    Yvonne

  • Why wouldn't you be able to get the coupon just because you live in an apartment?

  • that not true

  • If you live in apartments complex you can't get the 40$ coupons

  • yes you can just enter in your aparment number

  • that not true

  • Thx for posting this video...: )
