  • That guy sounds a little like Zach Galifianakis

  • 3:38 what?

  • @nofx84 LOL

  • Amateur..

  • take those spacers out before you grout-they will weaken the grout and also will leave an impression over time possibly

  • Many people skip the sealing part...and then over time, they regret not performing it when they cant get the dirt and stains out.

  • go to harbor frieght you can get all your tools at half the cost.

  • Hi there!

  • Tilemen, charge those customers for full extend. They spend thousands for materials. And when they are talking to you, they pretend that they are poor and miserable and want to pay you couple hundreds for labor. Let them pay thousands to you or let them do labor by themselves. Do yall sick and tired to work for food and gas yet ? Don't be a victim of this so-called "uncertain economy". Those who are paying thousands for a glass tile are pretty much "certain" about their income.

  • @lovebugs0205 ding dong you see your 2 thumbs down 4 your lame ass responses.seems like people on YT are intelligent enough to see how low-class you really are.

Had you typed an intelligent attack on me using facts. maybe you would have made a dent. I am blocking you So go ahead and talk all the low-class crap that you want about me but still won't change the truth of the matter!

  • This guy grouted the tiles and left the spacers between the tiles! What a rookie.

  • @Mr1elrod theres no reason to remove the spacers.

  • can you lay natural sheet of stone tile over a very secure 25 yrs old vinyl tile that is glued down ? if yes what do i need to do it?

  • I do not recommend going to home depot they allow raciest mexicans to become managers. I worked at home depot for 4 years doing great all my reviews were great. The store mgr and mgrs liked me because I work hard. Then we got this store mgr from Mexico and off of a sudden I was getting written up right and left for doing nothing wrong. All of the white employes started getting fired and mexicans were being hired as the replacements.I got fired and told my story to unemployment &they sided with me

  • @lovebugs0205 hey you asshole I have more education then you'll ever have. Damn what is up with these children of trailer trash being let on youtube.

  • @bluediamond2077 ooh poor creature i will buy a cheeseburger , I'm so sad for you !!!!!!!!!

  • lowes is better

  • @d3115uxor Water or a latex additive would work to mix with the grout. Depending on the application or grout manufacture, latex additive can be added to improve strength, bonding, mold & mildew resistance...The latex additive is usually added with floor applications. Hope this helps -April

  • anyone need tile work done in Indianapolis?

  • Which pro use spacers anyway? This is probably a video for the "do it yourself" so... But don't you need to treat the walls and floor with something to make it waterproof? Atleast that's how we have to do in sweden in bathrooms, laundry rooms, shower romms etc. Things would rot pretty bad under the tiles otherwise

  • @schapedo -- yes they would and then they would remove the spacers.

  • The end product looks pretty good.

  • Hello.... I want to apply wood color ceramic tiles on my floor ( it is 6" X 24" ) but i don't want to leave any spaces between the ceramic tiles, is that possible or it will make some problems in the future ??

  • @SalehMagrabi the "spaces" are filled with cementitious grout...this cement locks the entire floor together.

you can make thin grout lines..which are very attractive but you cannot do without grout lines altogether

  • @SalehMagrabi No you'll be fine to do that, i'd still use grout or some other filler to stop damp getting in below your tiles.

  • They make it look so easy.

  • @glowshimmerglow its because it is easy once you learn how to do it.

  • only the british know how to tile and build walls properly...our walls are the best in the world....these tiles are not for floors....major fail.

  • @mrhairsaviour I have to agree, unless they go in a small shower.

  • @gregvancom these people dont seem to know what they are doing...its actually shocking...even the hammering the tile in place....its pure comedy.

  • @mrhairsaviour I think you meant to say italians are the only ones who know how to tile you are a typical limey who thinks the british are the best at everything major fail!!!!! ha ha ha too funny british people love blowing smoke up there own "arses"!!!!

  • Dear lord... so many little bitty tiles. So much grout to treat. Why not use larger tiles?

  • its all about the money .over chargeing assholes.

  • Hire a professional even though you can type how easy it is to install tile properly. Open time becomes a factor. Open time is the time that the thinset looses its adhesive qualities. It drys out and doesn't form a bond. As far as grouting & liquid laytex additives make the grout set up alot faster. Call Tile by Design Inc 205 540 0317 for a professional job.

  • Another home depot bid where the "DIYer" isn't doing what the narrated says. Clean grout diagonally... And the guy isnt. Lulz

  • youtube.com/watch?v=QtB7oAK47Jo

  • So the home depot flooring guy says "a contractor is lazy and will do an awful job"

that's funny, i'm a contractor, and I work hard. Also I have years of experience and take pride in my work, it turns out quite well. I love how everyone at home depot thinks they are an expert because they attend some seminars, however in reality they are the jokes of the industry, everyone knows that you can't ask them anything, they don't know fu*& all...what is wrong with hiring a licensed tradesman?

  • This really helps me

  • I love all the "pros" hating on this vid. If you are a proffesional tiler, why in the hell are you watching a how to video from home depot? I guess you have plenty of time to waste since no one will hire you.

  • Im pretty sure they forgot to vacuum...

  • @xBloodXGusherx I'm pretty sure they forgot to think

Home Depot-You can do it, we can help!!

please, support your local lumberyard, tile store, hardware store, thats where you will find better selection and real experts, and support small business, not people who think this is good work. This video is up to standards of tiling a mcdonald's washroom.

  • To be honest, this Home Depot video has better results than some of the work that paid "contractors" do (who hire their staff outside of Home Depot). Search for "bad tile job" and get ready to be horrified. Caveat Emptor. You get what you pay for - either in time, talent or treasure.

    Thanks!

  • can you grout on wood?

  • starting at the CENTER? of the room....?

  • Take that el cheapo tile at home depot. you know the stuff that's advertise for .99 cent a square. now take a batch sample 3 or 5 Pcs. measure diagonally, and check the Gauge. Is it Square? are all the Pcs the same thickness? Is it a high rated PEI Porcelain? the anwser is I Don't think So. $10 a sq. is on the high end.$7 a sq. will get you great tile heck even Marble. Point is your install will only look as good as the stuff you put into it.

  • To the people who posted a month ago, do you realize that you're getting upset over floor tile? LOL

  • Grout the specers in??? Wow that a flooring 101 no no!

  • @brackett40 yea... i was about to say the same thing!

  • SAVE THE SPACERS

  • My coworker really liked this, it is great how you can show not only what needs to be done but, how to do it. It leads a great deal to your professionalism. ~

  • @ hall313 you carnt tile ya maggot so you best call so 1 to tile your shit hole ya puff any way ya carnt tile on a cardboard box hahahahahaha

  • @gazzaoco if i was gay, I would say the same thing, If I wanted toe hear some useless B.S. from a fag, I would've called your dad. Thanks for the input, but I think I will just do it my way instead. Also, I think if you have to make cardboard box jokes, its only because you lay such good tile in the closet you're afraid to come out of.

  • @hall313 I meant to, not toe, faggot

  • @gazzaoco Girls like you are so funny, you're so tough online, but if I ever saw you I'm sure you would just hide under your father's skirt.

  • As a child, Did the bathtub ever looked out of place to you sitting in the side of the restroom? Meaning it is out of geometry in a square room?

  • @tnguyen318 That's because the framers smoked too much pot. they never think about how their stuff effects the other trades.

  • grouting over spacers.NICE!

  • Those 12x12 sheets are about 10 bucks a piece, that's one expensive little floor.

  • @zzboobzz 10 dollars is expensive??? lol get a clue man.

  • @thefullmonte2003 haha AHHH 10 bucks per square feet is crazy expensive. Normal nice tile can go for 2 bucks a square foot or even cheaper. A 200 square foot job just went from 400 bucks to 2000 dollars using $10 sq/ft tile. I am pretty sure zzboobzz is correct. 10 sq/ft is pricey!

  • @jlinteris $2.00 sf???? what kinda shitty ceramic tile you buyin man? I do not want a 2nd hand tile from depot. i work in a tile showroom and install on the side and have been to tile factorys in italy and spain. trust me, a $7.00 porcelain tile is bulletproof.

  • @thefullmonte2003 no kidding .I've installed Chair rail that cost more then that a piece. I know it looks easy to SET tile, but just because you can set tile, doesn't make you a tile setter. And grouting is just as important. a crappy grout job can make a good tile install look crappy. did he grout over rapidset ? I can see the gas bubbles already, because I know he didn't let the thinset slake or remix

  • At about 2:49, he grouts over spacers. Is that normal?

  • you all sayin that he crap at his job ?? well u must need to no how to tile or u wouldnt be here ya fools as for the pro tiler m8 u carnt be that good if u lookin to learn how to tile ya muppet ... nice tiles m8 thanks 4 the info

  • @gazzaoco Are you retarded? Is that some kind of secret code you're talking in? I hope so, if not, you're either 6 years old or you need to be in a rubber room. From now on, you should make sure the strap on your helmet is isn't too tight.

  • @hall313 yes, it's true, gazzaoco was talking in 'code of the retard'. I, being a retard myself, shall translate: "Hall313, You are unable to apply the correct and time proven processes of tiling, you larvae. You had better call a professional in the event your sphincter requires tiling. Also, cardboard boxes do not make suitable surfaces for tiling."

Of course I do not share gazzebo's thoughts on the matter

  • @ScrewAttackChina Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you or your faggot buddy, just trying to make a simple observation, queer bait. I'm surprised at least one of you can read fairly well. Good job, Corky.

  • More truth is needed. Unionize Home Depot!

  • Don't forget the Nuheat !!! You will love it and it's sooo easy to install. No extra materials needed!

  • great vid

  • Ease up guys, everybody knows there different ways of doing thing, if you don't like what you seen in this video then thats your opinion, So if you think you can do a better job on how to install tile correctly please post a video. other then that get to work.

  • There were so many things wrong with this install. Also you should never use small tiles for the entire floor. It looks stupid when taking a dump.

  • Comment removed

  • As a pro tile setter I can tell the guy in the video here has no clue how to tile. he prob was at a home depot "how to" semnar and they said "hey bud wanna be in a video?"

  • is the sealer applied only one time or do you have to treat the floor every year ?

  • wow the tile installer forgot to removed the tile spacers...LMAO

  • Damn that is crooked as hell

  • I love how they say wipe it diagonally and the guy is wiping with the grout lines lol

  • first thing he says (make sure the floor is flat and even) which 90% of the time it isnt, then what. missed that bit eh..crap

  • I'm not an expert but I think you need to remove the spacers before applying the fill between the tiles. As for the ply wood I dont know how you do it in US but we normally use concrete flooring.

    Good video,

  • If this helps, I'm a flooring expert at Home depot... and you put the spacers in (when you're not using mosaic sheets), while you're using your mortar. When the mortar has dried, that is when you can pull the spacers out. And yes, it's very common to use concrete flooring, or even cement board as a basis. There's not really a difference. Plywood is usually easier, but it doesn't really matter that much. Good luck!

  • This video is not good - I went to HD and took the class on tile and I have been doing it myself ever since--- you little video here does not show an actual DIAGONAL swipe of the tile - and worse than that - they lay the tile directly on the ply wood -- Hello BACKER BOARD is needed in a bathroom.. and I was taught to find the center of the room and start from that point... not at the edge near the door -- WHAAAA.. this needs to be removed.. how embarrassing for HD...

  • If this helps, I'm a flooring expert at Home Depot and I actually teach the seminars for tiling: Backerboard is not always necessary in a bathroom. Providing you've sealed it, you can do it however you want. If you really wanted to be technical, I'd sell you the shluter- ditra underlay which replaces your 5/8" plywood and really prevents from water damage and from tiles cracking. Like they said at the beginning of the video, it's not always necessary to start from the center. :)

  • @cheeseboxproductions i'm sorry i'm not making fun of you, but you really don't know much about tiling. Giving advice like that is bound to have very moisture prone bathrooms

yes when tiling start from the centre of the room, always do 3,4, 5 for your layout as well, make sure you are square. If you start from the centre then all your "border" tiles will be the same on opposite sides, making a nice reveal. If you start from one end and your tile isn't even with the length of room, oops

  • @cheeseboxproductions i'm sorry i'm not making fun of you, don't insult contractors, a lot know more than you and can do a far superior job, hands down. Some bad, some great.

  • @chrisbc29 Apologies, I wasn't trying to insult anyone. I know there are some contractors who really know what they're doing, and it makes me happy to know they're out there. It's those "fly-by-nighters" who come by who scare the crap out of me. Starting in the center is the ideal way of doing it, but also I've always found it depends on what type of tile. Because you're right, sometimes it'll look funny by the time you get to the edge. =]

  • If you leave the grout until its firm you will have a difficult time cleaning the rest of it off, I assure you.

  • Very true. Although worst case scenario, we do (Home Depot) provide a grout haze remover which works nicely if you need it.

  • Is this the same process as if I wanted to tile the outside of my house? mortor, tile, square notch trough, steel comb (dunno the name) and a mallet...

The outside of my house has concrete already, but it'll be my first time. I'm fairly confident i can do it right, but am just afraid that indoor and outdoor might be different.

    Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • I'm a flooring specialist at HD: it is the same process, but you'll actually need to use a different mortar called "premium plus" with a milky additive that gives it the flexibility it needs. Also, the tile you use (true porcelain..!) will also make sure your tiles don't shatter in the winter. (I live in canada, so i guess it depends where you are!) They are a bit different, so make sure you let an associate know so they can give you the right products!

  • heares one for schapedo,it is "just grouting" but a poor grout job will make the best tile job look like hell, just as a great grout will make a whoreable tile job sell.if it was so easy i'd take .50 cents off my price and tell hem to grout it theirselves.fact is their is no substitute for skilled trades and no amount of common sense or internet,or advice from the schmoes at homo depot is going to teach what it takes anyone months of grouting everyday to perfect.buy cheaper tile and pay the man

  • Have you ever done tiling before? It is rather simple, but there's a lot of patience in it- and you still need to have done your homework. I work at home depot as a flooring specialist... and the advice I give is to help prevent stupid mistakes but a contractor is lazy and does an awful job. If you do it yourself, its rewarding and you'll take your time to know it's done well. Dont buy cheap tiles. They don't last.

  • you left some tile spacers in the mortar lol see 2:39 :)

  • the tiles look crappy

  • Narrator: I said, wipe the tiles DIAGONALLY!

    Geometry FAIL.

  • @DavesTreeFarm

the narrator is actually correct about doing it diagonally so that you dont scrape out the grout. the person in the video is just doing it incorrectly, so its not geometry fail....

  • @bearstearn3

I didn't say the narrator was wrong, just pointed out the very same thing you mentioned. So the person in the video . . . GEOMETRY FAIL.

    And lighten up, jeez.

  • @DavesTreeFarm lauging so hard watching all these videos and not once does the guy wipe these tiles diagonally lol

  • What a joke, I esp. like the way he spread the thin set mortar, and they tiled direct on plywood too. Totally un professional. Won't last long.

Jaz @ Tile 4 You Inc.

  • what should they have put over the plywood?

  • While tile over ply can work in dry areas, it's a poor method anywhere. You should install a tile backer board, (cement board), or a membrane such as Ditra.

  • Ditra is awesome for bathrooms, laundry rooms and kitchens (anywhere with water). I always recommend this product to my customers.

  • Boycott the home depot for fired man that wore a button that read "In God we trust!"

Thanks Fox News for letting us know!

  • What are u people doing??????

  • this demonstration is particularly ordinary

  • I like how they say "wipe diagonally" as they wipe perpendicular... I never went to college, but I knows diagonal when I sees it... or rather don't sees it... lol This video moves way too fast and is not comprehensive (nor accurate) enough to be very helpful

  • my lord what a mess,try a v notch,one thing for sure its stuck

  • Watching this was pure pain. The background music was getting to me. I you plan on tiling your bathroom floor, please, keep doing research.

  • there are a few good points in this video but did you notice that the piece they took out to make sure they had proper coverage was higher than the others. If i'm using a bigger tile like a 12X12 I might make sure theres coverage, but if i'm laying 2X2 with a mesh backing on the floor using a 1/4 trowel that tile aint going nowhere! Why waste your time picking it up and making a mess!

  • i worked with a woman in adelaide and she could out lay all the guys, you fool

  • Mdude022, go and make me a sandwich in the kitchen.

  • 3:15 how many spaces are in that one little shot? Sloppy work home depot!!! what a depressing looking floor!

  • work your way out of the room.don´t batter the tiles with a mallet and a piece of wood use a grouting float to tap down.using spacers is a gaurenteed way to end up with uneven lines though unavoidable with most natural stone mosaic .slight adjustment will give the best result.

  • This is exactly why people should not rely on home dep[ot to tell them how to set tile, the grout is probably already popping out bevcause he left his flexible spacers in the tile when grouting, also it took him 3 times longer because he made the room into a U shape instead of staring at the back of the room and moving in one direction. with a little measuring this is easily done. DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF LIKE THIS GUY JUST CALL SOME PROFESSIONALS AND GET IT DONE RIGHT!!!!!!!!

  • we're just grouting here, no need for professionals. we are not building a swiss watch. unfortunately, professionals try to instill fear so that they can overcharge customers in every skilled traded. as an honest and experienced worker, i have seen some outrageous price gouging used on ignorant consumers. teach yourself, then just use some patience, the sources on the internets, and some common sense.

  • Thats absolutley right schapedo .Just a question for the daft pro builders ,if the floor in the bathroom had a carpet on it why is it not sealed with cement board but under tiles its a must LOL..

  • @schapedo how about grouting over the nylon spacers a pro wouldn't do that

  • @thodem001 i bet that particular person could rip all the tile out, buy more materials, redo the tile job, still come out better financially than highering a "professional", and on top of that they have learned something. you live and you learn.

  • @thodem001 Yeah, and I can see that in the final product that it is a problem?!?! REALLY? If the spacer comes out, which it won't, but if it does, oh my - breaking out the grout is a terrible work-load compared to what he has done already. Get a life!

  • @schapedo common sense my ass putting in tile was a btich and am not doing it no more !

  • @67tr876 well, common sense was only one of the ingredients that i listed.

  • I work at Home Depot, but not all of us give out the same advice. People who have actual experience with tiling will know how to do it right. Also, not everyone has had proper training, which is unfortunate (they're 4 day courses) so not everyone knows. Anyone can do it though with some patience and doing their homework :)

  • Hello there! Here in Philippines instead of mortar we use Cement for Tiling. 7:D

  • I've done tiling before. I have found YourHandymanZone . com to be a site that is quite helpful in this regard and for other home improvement endeavors.

  • how to install tile in bathroom ceiling

  • Make sure you use a heavier mortar. We have some that you can use, it's not that difficult- but make sure you let an associate know so then they know which one to get for you!

  • lmfao@ 3:02 move the float diagonal across the tiles, and the muppet STILL does it wrong... all he is doing is taking it out from between the tiles..... the tiling is TERRIBLE

  • very good instruction however ugly tiles in my opinion ... thanks for putting it on youtube

  • oh and removing old tiles too?

  • looks pretty nice. What I don't know is what is recommended in cutting the tiles when there's a big gap left there that looks like half a tile would fit in?

  • The guy doesn't say WHAT surface he is putting tile on... Yes, i know he lays the tiles on modified latex, that's just the "glue", What does he put the thinset ON ?? A WOOD surface? Which is back to my original question... What does he put the time ON ??? He doesn't say. (seem kinda important)

  • What to you put the tile ON ??? This information isn't here? What's in the spray bottle.

I guess you should stick to tiling floors and NOT making videos.

  • actually the guy is a pro> they gave you all the information nedeed. You lay the tiles on modified latex thin-set mortar mix ( min 0.56) In the spray bottle... as they say.... you have SEALER . I guess you are right , they should stick to tiling floors , and you should take some basic english comprehension lessons.Cheers

  • actually the stuff in the bottle is WATER, the sealer was in the yellow container. Cheers jackass.

  • thank you DannytheDogCN

  • I would not let you do my floor!

  • verry bed job,dont go to H.D.

  • What was in the bottle of spray?

  • Sealer

  • this video would have been good but too late i already botched the job lolololol

  • Do not grout over spacers! Remove them.

  • doesnt the floor need backer board first??

  • No, that's a cement floor. You can optionally use a self-leveling cement if it's out of level, or Ditra for waterproofing/uncoupling.

  • oh ok thanks

  • they make the mold for the floor, but it is like 3X3 and ain't too good if you want to make a bigger one.

  • you know it does, walls need to be waterproof and I have 1. The singing in it is very good!!! If you like to sing.

  • No underlayment?

  • Does it not need to be a small angle toward the drain?

  • The floor should be level all around unless you are trying to create a 'wet room' situation then yes there should be a natural and unnoticable slant towards the exit for the water. But I reckon this video is for tiling standard lever floors, not wet rooms.
