I think when an actor reaches such a high threshold at such a young age it's very hard to repeat such a performance as good or to find a script to equal to the previous. I truly wish Piper would find a script to equal L&D but I fear it will not happen. Her performance was stellar.

Piper was brilliant in this movie and although she has done other great work i feel sometimes actors/actresses go so deep into a character that it becomes hard to move on, ie. Angelina Jolie as GIA. It becomes difficult for them to let themselves fall so deep into a character again for fear of losing themselves.

I thought it was pretty obvious that Paulie killed herself because she knew she could never be with the girl she loved. It was also a hugely important part of the story, it was a movie about teen love and angst and the worst case scenario when these two factors meet. You clearly didn't get the film if you thought the end ruined it.

Look,I'll tell you what I think,to me the movie was beautiful,because of the love story,between the two girls,but there are also things that I didn't like,the ending obviously,an insipid,irritating ending where you have to assume Paulie either dies or turns into a bird,and also there is an overuse of Shakespeare poems and quotes.The mysterious raptor Paulie finds in the woods and start taking care of, just turns the movie into a complete symbolism that is,in my opinion,unworthy and unessential.

You are absolutely right that Perabo's acting skills are the shining light of the film, and there were too many shakespeare quotes.
