Story was great until we found out Edea was actually good and it was just a future sorceror that was controling her, the story from that point became stupid, and fell apart in my view...
It would've been too cut-and-dry if it was just "evil sorceress from the past, evil sorceress from the present, and evil sorceress from the future." It was another depth to (and practically the point of) the story. Sorceress Edea was under the possession of a future sorceress who needed to 'fix' something in the present in order for her reign in the future to be undisturbed.
What would've been the point of the game then if Ultimecia wasn't controlling someone from the present?

Final Fantasy 8 is one of my favourite games of all time, truely a beautiful score. God, this song in of itself represented so many big steps musically. Such an important lovely bit of music

If FF8 was a movie, I wouldn't care what other people would think of it, I watch it because i'm a true FF8 fan. I love this game, the soundtrack, the characters, but most of all the cutscenes especially the dollet landing (hairs on the back of my neck stand up and I get shivers down my spine everytime watching it).
@DFLOODyeaa Word of advice, don't go searching things you don't like. And if you have never played the game you can't judge it. That would be like me saying Call of Duty, Battle Field 3, or Skyrim sucks just because something was a little anti-climatic.
I'm personally AGAINST remakes/spin-offs of this game and FF IX.
Both games are just so amazing... Look at FF VII. I thought the game was great but I felt it was ruined by the unneeded spin-offs and now the game has so many annoying fanboys.
But FF VIII and IX are like untouched gems. Amazing games that need to stay that way. I feel like if they were remade, SquareEnix would find a way to fuck it up... somehow, someway :l

@justa16thnote The story is great, but remember this was a play station 1 game you can't expect too much. The graphics are just fine to me, especially since most modern games depend on repetitive FPS and high quality graphics that have a very short to no storyline.
The story was awesome. I really wish I could say the was perfect, but to me, the draw system really made it look like a neverending farm.
But mechanics aside, this is arguably one of the best games ever made, and this ending was worth the farm to be honest. I'm definitely going to play this game again in the future.

I need to actually beat this game some day. I've played through a million times, up to the point that I can enter Lunatic Pandora. Then I fly around and gather up GFs and level up and then get bored and play something else or start over. I think it took me nearly 10 years to beat FF7 for the same reason. I'd run around leveling and trying to get ultimate weapons and summons and such, and then get bored without ever entering the crater. Finally did once, though.
back in the day, i miss this game soooo much and hadn't play it for 8 or 9 years. NOW, i just got myself a copy of this game from ebay and guess what??? I lost my motivation to play it. Woah! over 4Million views!! The thing I don't understand about this world is why on earth do people think Nintendo are better than everyone else? Its more like Square enix > all other game companies. Nintendo could never make a series as good as final fantasy to save their own skin! The only 1 game I can think up of is Zelda oot, and thats just 1 game, not a whole series. I just finished the game for the first time after five years of ownership. I cried when they showed Rinoa over a seemingly dead Squall. And then they tried to offset that sadness with a bit of a comedic moment with Seifer and his friends. Then they show a sweet moment on the night Laguna proposed to Raine. And they finally closed it with a reminiscent scene with him at her grave. All while playing this sweet version of Eyes on Me. A pure masterpiece scene in how emotions are well reflected.
Sounds like one of those songs they play at Chinese restaurants. If you're a man and that song makes you cry, I suggest testosterone injections.

Woah! over 4Million views!! The thing I don't understand about this world is why on earth do people think Nintendo are better than everyone else? Its more like Square enix > all other game companies. Nintendo could never make a series as good as final fantasy to save their own skin! The only 1 game I can think up of is Zelda oot, and thats just 1 game, not a whole series. Nothing else compares to Final fantasy. How dare people say "This series compares to FF" - When it just doesn't. Who agrees?

@bookfiend2009 uuuuuuuuuhm no. Thats not what happened. The psx used CD-roms instead of cartridges which is much cheaper. Because of this Square went to the Psx instead of the N64.

I just finished the game for the first time after five years of ownership. I cried when they showed Rinoa over a seemingly dead Squall. And then they tried to offset that sadness with a bit of a comedic moment with Seifer and his friends. Then they show a sweet moment on the night Laguna proposed to Raine. And they finally closed it with a reminiscent scene with him at her grave. All while playing this sweet version of Eyes on Me. A pure masterpiece scene in how emotions are well reflected.
