i know this sounds stupid but does that horror scene seem to have any philosophical implications for any1? I know it did for me, especially when he gets out of that wretched, evil-filled mansion and looks up symbolizing how he just conquered fear..conquering fear..that's some powerful stuff right there.
For the longest time I was absolutely terrified of this movie. I finally worked up the courage to watch it again, and now I'm just disappointed they didn't use more of my favorite horror stories.
God this part of the movie scared the absolute shit out of me. Now I suddenly realised that I'm still scared of this scene. More freaky and scary than any stupid horror movies of today ! !
a few years back i dressed as both jeckle and hide one side was shreded and deranged looking the other more proper kinda like 2 face of batman sept no disgusting face anyway i had a skull and vertibre cane sword and a cool monsterlike contact lins on one eye and not many ppl ever heard of dr j and mr h i was like wtf read you idiots
Just a question, but what would happen if he opened a educational book about, say, the science of Astronomy. Would they just be cast out into Outer Space, watching how planets, stars and everything else works?
The part where Ahab turns red (as well as the entire backgound) absolutely terrified me as a kid. Still gives me the creeps today. Easily the best scene in the movie.
@silentpinecone it is more practical because small boat are more manuverable than the big ship.... they don't just go around in the rowboats, they have a bigger ship that theu go back to. Have you ever read moby dick?
first time i ever watched this (i was very young) i ran out of my room at 1:20 and wouldn't go back in, i had to get my mum to tune off the tv. i eventually watched it all the the way through about a year later
dr jekyl and mr. hyde - I dont really see it as horror - more like reality at least the evil part of reality because some ppl have multiple personalities (that medical disorder) so it's entirely possible to become a "psychopath" .. especially if the alternatives are possible.
I don't see how they can just sit on that piece of wood in the middle of the ocean when their boat just got crushed by Moby Dick. I don't know about anyone else but I'd be freaking out even if I felt a bit safer on the wood. Then again I'd also be freaking out that I was on that piece of wood in the middle of an ocean especially the part where you have no idea how deep it is. Ok I'm not a little kid anymore but still when I'm in water I prefer to be able to see the ground under all that water.
Hmm. The two sure do look a lot alike. Then again, the two movies came out the same year. The Lion King came out a only few months before the Pagemaster, so the makers of the Pagemaster couldn't have copied it, as animated movies take a long time to do, and not just a couple of months. They started producing the movie in 1993, so the animation must have started in 1993 after they got the beginning of the film right.
Did anyone notice that Richard had a red shirt when he was first splashed with the paint and turned into an illustration and as well in the Dr. Jakell and Mr. Hyde mansion, but when the boat is crushed, he's wearing a green shirt? What's up with that?
I literally just finished reading Moby Dick, and I'm so serious when I say this movie perfectly portrayed how f'kin crazy Ahab was. Even if it was only for a couple of minutes. lol
It's definetly one of my fav books now. And, This movie will always be a favorite. Been with me since I was 7.
I just finished reading it yesterday and I quite agree with you! I never knew who scared me the most as a kid, Mr Hyde or Captain Ahab, now I think they are pretty much out of one volume at least mentally..

That's three catch phrases now.
"This is not good. This is definitely not good at all."
"Look! There's the exit!"
"Get me out of here!"
It's kind of repetitive, isn't it. The whole catch phrase thing. And there's three of them (that I've noticed)
