Hi Ed ! Thanks for your amazing video It makes me decide to build my own workbench (Ed´s Style) with some little changes (Rear Legs, and I add a little shelf) First draw some plans, imaging the meassures, build a scale model, and decide to start ! I build it bigger just to fit in a determinated place in my workshop. Buy the woods, and start with the firts cuts.. the rest you can see it in the poor video i´ve upload
watch?v=80mR9HJqKwk I'm working on some sketchup plans that are inspired by this design. I haven't yet incorporated the top shelf into my design as I need to work around some internal structures in my garage. The top of the work bench is also a bit longer, give or take a few inches. I have the added complication of having to buy the wood in metric lengths even though imperial is my preference. Take a look at the youtube vid where I've animated the plans. I'll be sure to put them in sketchup too
@EverywhereVirtually There was a little bit of rocking, because the floor of the garage bows up in the center by about 1/2 inch. The white brackets were not necessary per se, but I wanted to make sure this sucker felt like it was bolted to the wall, since I opted not to screw it to the wall.
@eddiekern I'm coming to a similar conclusion. My garage floor is 30 years old and it was laid down by an idiot so is all over the place. The bench is pretty sturdy but there is a bit of movement so I may follow your lead. Thanks for the feedback.
Ed - love the video. This is exactly what I am envisioning for my workbench. I'm a newb however - do you think you could post the plans for it? I know you didn't draw any up prior to building, but if you could draw some up now - that would sweet! Thx.
Why do people have to get uptight about someone's safety? We live in a democracy and the great thing about a democracy is we get to make our own decisions. Anyway great vid. Making one smaller on the weekend for reloading
Brutal screwing. An impact driver would help a bit. It's too bad that American's don't get Roberson screws. Camming out under torque just isn't an issue.
WOW Dude, u took my imagination and made it real... now what i wanted to build seems super unoriginal lol, but ill stop being all hipster and just follow your awesome video and get my own one made.
You did a great job with this video. I plan on building a workbench this weekend and decided on doing a youtube search for some ideas. I sketched out just using straight 2x4 for the legs, but I like the route you took. I've seen it around, but could use a little more information to incorporate it for my project. Does that technique have a particular name? Also, it would be great if you posted the plans somehow. I'd love to see that too.
@mwoolner I built the bench with a hodgepodge of different techniques. I don't know what most of them are called if they even have names. Eventually I'll draw up the plans with dimensions and post them, but that's probably another 3-4 months out.
I'm pretty sure that the 2.125" screws were #8, and the 2.5" screws were #10. If your looking for metric dimensions there should be some conversion tables online.
@JonBaezH I started with 2.5" deck screws, but I found some great self tapping screws about half way through. I got them at home depot. I can't recall the brand name, but they are near the deck screws. I used two sizes, 2.5" and 2.125" depending on where I was putting them. I used the 2.125" screws in the pocket holes. When putting the screws in the pocket holes you need to be careful since the head of the screws is tapered. Hope I answered your questions.
@eddiekern. wow you really are a very nice person, but I have one more question, which are the thickness of the screws? becuase I´ve noticed that are different kind of thicks.
you can see the video clicking in my name... It´s my first Workbench, and my fisrt video !!!! ;-)

I notice white metal support brackets under the work surface and under the shelf. Why did you need these, was there any back and forward movement?

Right tools = Save time and effort.
Wrong tools = Waste time and more effort.
Spend little more on tools if you wanna show something good.
Good video quality but you show aren't smart like you looks like..

This bench is awasome made my mouth water. Did you ever get a round to making the plans and posting them?
eddiejr79 1 month ago
Great video. Will definately use this except that I'll substitute 4x4's for the 3 back legs for greater top shelf stability
