  • Bang on! Great interview between two polar-opposite individuals. They sat and talked with one another...and listened to each other.

  • 3:40 LMFAO, like REALLY! that's pure gold!

  • I was embarrassed watching this.

  • Peter Gzowski handles this interview with such grace and style, and to my mind, Iggy seems impressed with him, even respectful (in his own Iggy way).

  • Iggy RULES!!!

  • Are you kidding? This was a terrible interview, Iggy totally derailed the entire thing, he barely answered the questions and seemed insincere the entire time. Gzowski seemed to have several questions lined up that Iggy's drug-hazed ranting kept them from getting to.

  • @johnguy152 good point, acutely noticed. But really, people mean to say it was entertaining.

  • This interview is a really frustrating because iggy's looking for something to hate. but gzowski's not giving him anything to chew on or something to push against.

iggy comes across as self-conscious and immature and gzowski's playing possum too much. the essence of canadian-american conflict.

  • The people dissing Peter Gzowski have no idea what they're talking about. He has a reputation as one of the greatest and classiest interviewers ever. He absolutely handled a pissed-off Iggy.

  • Copied from user floormonkeys:

"Guys - you have to put this interview in context. Iggy was booked to play with David Bowie on this show. When it was discovered that Bowie was not a member of the AF of M (the Musician's Union), the CBC would not allow the performance. Sop, when Iggy came out for the interview, he was VERY upset by what had happened. His attitude during the interview was largely driven by the cancellation of the performance...This was front page news in Toronto at the time. "

  • Iggy's a bit combative and not in a great mood. Still in a drug haze so he could be a bit more paranoid.

  • "Sure. You got a light?"

  • Go Iggy!

  • The interviewer wasn't a jerk - he was just playing Iggy's game back to him... Not letting Pop get under his skin, but vice versa... You even see some smiles between the two...

  • Peter Gzowski (R.I.P) seemed a very nice man.

  • This interview is the stiffest a**hole I've ever seen, and he deserved everything Iggy Pop gave him and more. Where is Joaquin Phoenix when you need him???

  • In Iggy I trust.

    Best guy ever. <3

  • I agree. Iggy was shooting daggers at Gworski. I think he was sincere toward the end, when he mentioned not liking popularity. To him--its art,expression....and thats enough. He seemed like he was trying to point out that he wasnt a foolish boy addicted to rock music, but an intelligent mind. I'm sure the vomit story was made up. he probably knew the guy wouldnt understand the real answer. After all, that interview was belittling, what with canned laughter....

  • Robert Downey on CBC?

  • ha get fuckkked

  • Watch this clip with "Brian Eno - An Ending" or "Erik Satie - Gymnopedie" playing in the background.

    Beautiful.

  • Not as beautiful as with Mogwai - "Punk Rock" playing in the background. It's so beautiful it was integrated into the actual song. It's heartbreaking.

  • I know Mogwai's version. But after hearing it 50 times I began experimenting on this interview with other musical pieces. ;)

  • true

  • As a matter of fact, the first time I heard this interview - or rather the edited version found in Punk Rock - it was the background not to Punk Rock, but to a studio version of "2 Rights Make 1 Wrong" played with violins. That was back in the free Napster days and I've long since lost that version. I've spent countless hours looking but can only find a live version with violins which is not nearly as beautiful as the one I heard. It was one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

  • Iggy did a really lovely interview on the Dinah Shore show in which he mentions his self-mutilation thing. It seemed amazingly sincere.

  • it seems to me that he's super pissed about not being able to perform and it's bleeding into the interview...

  • i'd say hemorrhaging.

  • Interesting interview. However I think at the end some of the emotion was insincere. Perhaps he felt it at the time but it seems to me like he loved being popular. Twice during the interview he goes to the crowd for reassurance, doesn't seem to me like a man who doesn't want a crowd on his side.

  • Depending on when this was filmed, Iggy was either whacked off his but or had just kicked a habit. Kicking a habit is sometimes worse for you than the habit was.

  • I think he just wanted to make sure that he'd made sense.

  • I think he sensed what a jerk the interviewer was and just didn't want to talk to him any more. He has always struck me as very genuine.

  • such a good interview. why can't interviews have this sort of depth and length in them these days? who cares about your next movie or album, let's hear about context and purpose

  • I think that "The Hour" is just as good a show as the "Peter Gzowski" show.

  • Comment removed

  • The Hour does have the best interviews (and guests) on TV these days, however George ruins the credibility show by trying to be funny. The comedy sketches and jokes he (or his staff) write are horrible, just stick to the in-depth interviews and pop culture knowledge. that is afterall how you got the job.

  • Damn those eyes are so intense it's scary.

  • notice how iggy is always balancing stuff out.....

  • Fuck interviews used to be good. Iggy is awesome.

  • I love older interviews with these guys. Johnny Rotten can be a little too stand-offish, but I think Iggy hits the right balance between defending what he does without coming off like an instigator.

  • you're an ass. way to focus on the right part of the interview. :)

  • It was a joke get over yourself bud. I made the same joke on his fan mail and he replayed with a "HOLY SHIT THATS FUNNY that was a long time ago, Sorry girl didnt mean it like that"

but unlike you and the dooface below me. he got the joke,

  • youre right im sure he was intentionally trying to put down women and make them feel like they have nothing to contribute cheers *Fart Noise*

  • fuck off, yeah, he's not being diplomatic and nothing pisses me off more than feminists with their heads shoved up their twats sucking a tampon.

  • fuck out dipshit. It was a joke that Even he got. but I can tell you have no sense of humor. Go fuck yourself and stop trying to cause trouble.

  • first of all, what the FUCK is "fuck out"? FUCK OUT? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE SHITTING ME

secondly, thats a joke? that is the most phail joke I have ever heard - you go about spouting comedy gems like that then tell me I have no sense of humour?

  • Interesting interview. Gzowski was certainly one of the best radio hosts ever, but not that good at TV, as he himself freely admitted. Still, this is a cool little slice of history. Iggy doesn't seem to have changed much at all in the 31 years since this interview!

  • I miss Peter Gzowski..
