@MrTicklebunnies You idiot. The Dragunov fires a 7.62x54mm which is larger than .308 which is made as a sniper round. The AK-47 utilizes the 7.62x39mm round which is the standard assault rifle cartridge they are using.

I am pretty sure that 7.62x54mm and 7.62x39mm are different.

It's cool that they were able to make it work, but if you're going to build a "sniper" rifle it's kinda pointless to base it on a ballistically inferior cartridge. The basic 7.62x39 cartridge ain't the greatest at range (neither is the 5.56). That's why scout snipers who want a semi-auto "sniper" still reach for the M14, which is essentially the .308 Winchester.

Then again, what he has created is a "DM" weapon to be integrated into a squad of regular riflemen. It uses the same ammo as everyone else in the squad, so he doesn't need to carry the rimmed Mosin ammo normally used in the PSL and Dragunov, and the battery of arms is the same.

The Dragunov and other Ak based systems are not sniper rifles. They are dmr's used for extended standoff range. They are not accurate out 1000 yards at all.

7.62x39 dosent have the capability to be accurate to a1k. you just cant push that bullet fast enough to remain supersonic that far. once that bullet goes the transonic stage about 550 yards the bullet will become unstable and its anyone’s guess where its going to hit. 308s have enough trouble remaining supersonic to that distance. for an ak id imagine a target accuracy to be about the size of a school bus at 1k

I love this show, but it seriously annoys me when they claim to have made groundbreaking discoveries. Have they never heard of the dragunov? That would be an AK type sniper rifle.
