  • 02:38 - what species of alien is that?

  • @RayHolly69 That's mean, you deserve to be trolled for that comment. What species of alien? The same species as your mother

  • GREAT blues

  • wow...........

  • they looked cramped in there

  • O dislikes!! That's what the hell I'm talking about!! R.I.P. Junior... your sounds live on. :/..

  • @keithalston watch it with the dirty language, sir.

  • @nickypeeps sorry ma'am...accept my apology? :)

  • kick ass good jam

  • Everytime I hit up youtube drunk, I always end up here dancing around my jam room. I love this, it's just right

  • If you love Junior, check out Chulahoma by The Black Keys. An EP of six covers of his stuff. The North Mississippi All Stars were influenced by R.L. Burnside. The Keys by Junior. Learn your blues shit.

  • @408joel the allstars were just as much influenced by Junior as they were RL

  • youtube needs a "repeat" button for this video!

  • So I am livin in Neb, not too far from Kan City. Anyone know of a Cool Lil Hole in the Wall in KC??

  • @sassybeest dunno if its a "hole in the wall" but Knuckleheads is the main Blues venu in KC. Some great performers pass thru, its a good time. A smaller place is BB's Lawnside BBQ which is actually a bbq joint that also has live blues. Happy Travels...

  • I have watched this many times and on each occasion, floods have tears have poured down my face, so raw is the emotion coming from this genius and his music.

    R.I.P. Junior

  • DAMN! I'M KICKING MY ASS RIGHT NOW! I LIVE IN MEMPHIS AND HAD HEARD ABOUT JUNIOR KIMBROUGH'S PLAYING AT HIS OWN BARREL HOUSE JUST DOWN THE ROAD. I WAS ALWAYS GOING TO SEE HIM BUT HE PASSED BEFORE I GOT AROUND TO IT. I WISH I COULD TURN BACK THE HANDS OF TIME AND GO TO JUNIOR'S JOINT AND SEE HIM PERFORM. LET THIS BE A LESSON TO YOU TOO! THERE ARE NO GUARANTEED TOMOROWS FOR ANY OF US IN THIS WORLD!

  • When i hear such a song and compare it to the music of today it just makes me cry...

  • holy shit

  • this is right in the pocket of the blues I am always looking for, there is a lot of blues out there but I am really picky. I love junior

  • most hynoptic blues guitar youll ever hear

  • never met this man- yet i love him & miss him. i wish he could play at my wedding! i would even have it there!

  • There is no grave for this man !

  • sustain and a good compressor gives you a similar sound of that gui'tar - the song and version are excellent - Thanx Junior - R.I. P.

  • @alfonsoguzmandiaz NO NO NO compression. Compression BAD for the blues! Bad Alfonso! Bad!

  • don't forget to tune your reverb on 2 tons ...or more if you got a vintage amp or a musicman . Shitty tubes amps are welcome as said by Mr Caribean

  • Mm mM!..SWEET brown skin woman @ 2:56 with her sexy smile :-)

  • @MrCaribbean i think ol' gal at 5:11 is way cuter, what cha think 'bout dat?

  • @2220Blues Well said, i love it :-)

  • Junior's AMP sounds really Fuckin' good!, his reverb is fantastic, great playin and his band gives that pulse to the music.

  • this legend's soul is fired straight outta his fingertips, not his amp!

  • Poland also loves blues...

  • I'm ashamed to say I live in Mississippi and have for the past six years, only now to have discovered this amazing man. I really have been missing out.

  • you know people happen to luck on to GREAT musicians on you-tube and say what equipment is he using, what year is this, where can i get that ?This is what i have to say -----if you really want to know go to their website and read Bio and learn the info from the source.Dont be a lazy prick and take what some Jo Smo has to say about turning up the the volume /gain on a overdrive amp.If you really like it research it.

  • @chungazrevenge Yes and now, whoever said that was actually right in telling him that. All you need is just an amp and an idea, you don't need the same equipment or effects or anything.

  • @chungazrevenge well said!

  • This is where it's at!

  • I have some Kimbrough collections and this recording blows them all away. Good equipment and conditions.

  • That boy is overgrown for that set of drums !

  • Sick bass starting at 1:20

  • WOAH... I have this guitar he's using. It's an old Cortez Les Paul copy... Cortez eventually would become Cort which is still around if I recall.

  • He's ruined me for almost any other blues music. He went to the Lord in 1998 and I want to believe God quieted the angels and spirits and said "this is Mister David Junior Kimbrough, and he's better than the rest and heaven just got nastier with a groove as big as the sky."

  • Junior! bad!

  • greatest....

  • This kind of stuff can't be packaged and sold. It's the real deal.

  • I was just watching Buddy Guy playing with a little ten kid. That is all fine and good, but man if you want to hear the blues played with sweat and tears, this is where you want to be.

  • Nice wee bit O blue.... !

  • at 4:35 Jr. was looking at them as if to say: can ya'll keep up with this?

  • who knew chris rock could play bass

  • besides the eargasm Junior is giving me, I'm loving the bass line.

  • Jr. was gettin' love all night long - they say he had aprox. 36 children.....

  • I watched this documentary in my humanities "world of music" class. this song blew me away.

its beautiful, raw, and full of emotion. absolutely amazing

  • Holy crap!!--I love this stuff!!---Junior~~the begining and end of all music!!

  • Whoever mic'd that shwo was a genius. They made a crappy little blues shack (acoustically speaking) sound like heaven

  • @bkennedy good musicians will always sound good no matter what

  • damn if Jr. dont look like Grandpa from the Munsters tv show. By the way- love you Jr. and miss the hell out of you.

  • i love how devoid of showing off his guitar playing is, just purely expressive

  • And ppl think John Mayer plays the blues! What a fkn joke - he ain't fit to shine Junior's shoes.

  • Damn! This is some hot shit!

  • this makes me proud to be from mississippi. dont believe what you see on tv. its the greatest place in the world.

  • thank you for sharing this.

  • WOW !!!!!

This is beyond incredible, I am blown away . . . . . RIP Junior.

  • WOW

  • oh, how I would've loved to stop by there that night and strolled up with my "E" harp and ripped a solo over that groove!!! it would've been vanilla and the chocolate chips!!! Kick ass groove and more soul here than can be found on the radio today

  • I just Love waffle over the top of music!! --Sorry, Before the music (even More pretentious, but hey).

Shut up, and Let The Man Play.

  • incredible.

  • i'm new to playing the guitar. what kind of distortion is he using? how can i get that?

  • @easymelon2187 Don't know what distortion he is using. It's likely just an overdriven amp. If you're looking into getting a good dirty sound out of a guitar, get a nice tube amp and turn the volume and/or gain up until you get the sound you want.

  • @counterlucid thanks very much

  • @counterlucid He's got a lot of reverb on it too. (Good advice on the distortion)

  • @counterlucid remember with the distortion thing I play through a fender hot rod deville and a fender hot rod blues junior and i only need a hair of drive to get junior kimbrough's tone and the thing to point out in this is that junior has the reverb pretty high too which i really like a lot!

  • @counterlucid

that's right, and to get junior's sound a solidbody guitar might be useful. no strat will get that drone.

  • @counterlucid

oh well and i think there's some reverb effect to it.

  • Yup sounds like an overdriven tube amp with the reverb turned up moderately high to produce that haunting tone.

  • @counterlucid or better yet, get a shitty amp and turn it on. i love my $50 epiphone guitar when im playing blues.

  • @easymelon2187 old Peavey tube amps are good for that kind of sound. I've got a mid 80s Peavey "Heritage" that gets as close as anything I've heard.

  • @easymelon2187 its also i little bit of reverb

  • @easymelon2187 - I would say an old tube amp of some sort.

  • @easymelon2187 Twin reverb cranked up i think. Any tube amp will do, wit a toutch of reverb.

  • @easymelon2187

lots of reverb, about half way. A good fuzz pedal can get you a good tone. but a fender twin reverb tube amp is all you need.

  • @casualerror Yup..The Twin Reverb is the best way to go for this kinda stuff.

  • @easymelon2187 Sounds like just an overdriven tube amp with the reverb turned way up. A Blues Junior would do the trick.

  • @easymelon2187 dude it takes more than a fucking distortion pedal to sound like THE MAN.

YOU are obviously some white kid or guy. My advice is just listen and don't imitate.

  • @chungazrevenge Wow, dude. Way to be a complete DICK to someone who is new to music and has questions. And way to make it a racial issue, as well.

No race owns the blues. It belongs to everyman, asshole.

Now I'm gonna get back to enjoying Kimbrough.

  • Jr I love you I hope you love me !!!!

  • @easymelon2187 normal distortion but with delay:P

  • @easymelon2187 Check out Kenny Brown's site if a contac ask him.......he played with RL Burnside for well over 20 yrs and Junior as well, Cedell Davis.........

    Check out Moreland and Arbuckle

  • @easymelon2187 buy a shitty amp, scoop the mid, put treble and bass at 5 or 6.

  • @easymelon2187 I think he plays in clean with some extra gain as counterlucid said, and some reverb for the spacious sound.

  • @easymelon2187 Fender Deluxe Reverb. Crank it up, and put reverb to taste and there you go. (You will most likely need a guitar with humbuckers to really overdrive it. Or put a tubescreamer in front of it and crank the volume with the overdrive knob all the way down.) Plus you need soul. :)

  • I can't stop listening to this. That bass player is no joke either. Once you get into the song it's hard to realize that it's 'only' three guys making all that music.

  • I just saw this move the last night. If you like low-down blues this man is (was) so good it's hard to fathom how he never really got more widely know. this performance is so powerful

  • dude where can I pick up this documentary? fucking love kimbrough man thanks again for the post! long live the blues!

  • @boilermakerstud Amazon has it. I'm sure there are many places to order it from. Full title is "Deep Blues: A Musical Pilgrimage to the Crossroads". You can also see him in "You See Me Laughin'" which features a number of Fat Possum artists.

  • that, my dear friends, is magic.

  • Robert Kimbrough, Junior's son, is an amazing blues musician and plays in the hillcountry blues styles. he operates a Juke joint near holly springs and plays every sunday night. he plays All Night Long---------it is so amazing go see it

  • Movie is "Deep Blues".

This superb documentary vividly illustrates the enduring vitality of country blues, an idiom that most mainstream music fans had presumed dead or, at best, preserved through more scholarly tributes when filmmaker Robert Mugge and veteran blues and rock writer Robert Palmer embarked on their 1990 odyssey into Mississippi delta country.

  • Awesome, thank you so much for this! Gotta see that movie - this sounds better than any of the records!

  • Awesome, my friend! Thank you so much for this. This sounds better than the records! I've gotta see that movie!

  • Deep Blues - 1994 ??

  • Junior looks like he might have hit that heron(sic) before this show

  • oh my...the sunday nights at Junior's joint! That was the most fun ever! I'll Never forget it!

  • .....fantastic night trip......

  • @olia1dim i can totally see myself getting entranced by this too at night when im baked

  • His voice is groovy as hell

  • didn't discover kimbrough until after he'd been gone a long time. woulda loved to see him and/or burnside live. know it sounds crazy but his music sorta reminds me of the rough-hewed country my grandfather played before he died. no frills, no effects, just gut-deep, real deal music that really means something. thanks for posting it.

  • @faunoram absolutely true but don't forget T-Model Ford

  • Calvin Jackson has more cool in one of his pinky fingers than I do in my whole body!

  • raw and real

  • The absolute BOMB!!!! THIS IS BLUES!!!

  • @marshallstakkk i think its better that way haha

Oh. But even dead, I think somebody probably owns his footage...
