Owning a Focus RS, I would not want it to be AWD. Part of the cars charm and its nature is all about fun. AWD much like my older Golf R32 is great, don't get me wrong, but it has too much precision. In a mad, crazy looking Focus RS, I want it to act fun and crazy. When someone jumps in my RS, they are just blown away because of its tendency to get the rear out. It just fills you with excitement. FWD is the only way for the RS/500. (But I would like to drive an AWD RS) :P
@scoobyhaz Direct fuel injection in the next gen should improve the power. The current engine does not allow for much more power without having a bigger turbo. Bigger turbo=more lag

@omar53333 Yea it is built in a german factory, I drive a focus ST which was built in germany, says so on the engine block... so to say the RS is built elsewhere is kinda silly. And as far as comparing the two cars, the focus is a much better performance car, it's designed to be a drivers car, takes more skill to drive the focus then the 4wd sti. But if your after a tamer drive then the scoobie is the way to go simply because the AWD does the work for you.
@envoking AWD is easyer to drive yes, but that doesnt make the focus RS have more performance, the STI has some disadvantages, for example its much heavier that the Focus RS, the focus has 351HP while the Impreza has only 224HP(2007 ver), so, that is performance, do more with less. and a AWD car sometimes is more dificult to drive, some times you have understeer another oversteer depends on the configuration of the drive train, so, focus RS, is another failure try to beat our Duo
@omar53333 I think you misunderstand where I'm coming from, The Focus "takes" more performance to drive, It's a little more of a hand full to drive in turn takes more performance from the driver to get the most out of it. I previously had a MY010 model STI and i sold it to get my xr5 (st) 4 door model. And in all honesty It's a much more enjoyable to drive then the wrx, It sounds better and has more pull then the scoobie. but i guess like most things, it comes down to personal taste.
@omar53333 P.S... even with all that ECU crap where hes locking the diff and the car beeps at him to change gear (computer assist) he still gets throttled by the RS. So even with a computer doing 50% of the work it still can't get away from a focus. so in all honesty the focus is the one with all the disadvantages yet its still biting at the axels of the subie.. you should be praising it not dissing it.

The Focus is part of Fords range of cars made for Europe.Ford has a bunch of designers in England which designed cars like the GT40 and Escort. Most British designed Fords were made for UK roads but that was more back in the 70s-80s .
The Subaru is great but it's such a pity it looks like a Nissan and way to civilized, no aggressive look. The Ford on the other hands looks like an furious black stallion!

Argue all you want guys but both these cars are an absolute joy to drive. I've driven the suby and a focus RS (not the 500) and they both will have you smiling from ear to ear. Two great cars in their class.

at 1:42 (0-100 Sti 5,2 RS500 5,6 ) the rs driver is just the better driver but the sti is the better car AWD dominates FWD in all ways.A good start with awd is not so easy like a fwd vehicle. The Subaru has 50hp less but is 0,4 sec faster .....thats AWD :-)
And theres a really big diffrence between the qualitiy of a Subaru and a Ford

That's because the Mustang is RWD so it puts its power better on the a straight line than the Focus. Also this Focus is heavier because current cars are more equipped and safer than before. Put several airbags, ABS, TC, ESP, EBD, Navigation system and all those extra gadgets and the car gets heavier. But compare your fox body Mustang to a 2011 Mustang GT and I'm sure it has improved a lot on performance (almost 2 sec on the 0-60 and what about 1/4 mile times??).

Before you rant off maybe you should visit Fords website & do some research buddy, Volvo engine is used in the Ford Focus & they share the same floor plan as the Volvo S40 that is fact if you care to check. Don't get me wrong I would love to have a Ford Focus RS400 but it's front wheel drive now if it was 4x4 lots of people would have converted over to Ford from Subi in a hart beat that's if they like hatches plus the price tag to match

@scooterdude1945 I believe Citroen rule the WRC Rally world in Drivers & Manufactures if you care to look at WRC history, Subaru didn't do too bad either. Note the classic Ford Escort 1800 from 1981 WRC history list which was my first car I learn how to drive back in the 90's Ford do make some decent cars. PS - adding the words "s**k now" next to big names like Jack Roush or Vaughn Gittens I find that rather insulting enough...... how dare you rubbish their names.

The focus rs 500 is a great car, but the only reason it won is because fwd cars have the ability to put more power down in a drag race than awd, put those 2 on the nordshcleife and the subaru will spank it!

A stock mid 80's Mustang GT has only about 200hp, so 0-60 is half a second slower. You can beat its naturally aspirated 5.0 windsor without breaking it, doing 19-20MPG average (The Focus RS 500 does 22MPG)
Sorry, but I'm not impressed. I expected more after 25 years.

That's because the Mustang is RWD so it puts its power better on the a straight line than the Focus. Also this Focus is heavier because current cars are more equipped and safer than before. Put several airbags, ABS, TC, ESP, EBD, Navigation system and all those extra gadgets and the car gets heavier. But compare your fox body Mustang to a 2011 Mustang GT and I'm sure it has improved a lot on performance (almost 2 sec on the 0-60 and what about 1/4 mile times??).

The RS looks to be a great car, but I'll take AWD over FWD anyday. If it was going to come down to handling stock for stock , IMHO the EVO would have made for a better test comparison with the RS.
