i can see why you say melancholy? but i i don't hear enough regret for that. i hear vastness. like the celestial imagery suggests. unrewarded stalwart hope. sorrow, not of regret, but with a sense of purpose, as when striving for a very distant goal.
me too , since high school - in 1986. I try to imagine the blissful contentment of those who have had since high school in 1968 to listen to them endlessly. They must think life is just a magical place where only good things happen.
@latinodude85 That may be so but it's still pretty darn good. Even KC's weakest is a thousand times better than many other so-called musicians' "best". Cheers!
@latinodude85 rubbish, this is one of their best albums from that era. Because you can sit down and listen to it from start to finish unlike some other KC albums.
The only weak track is Gulls, but it is still very listenable, in the right mood. The titular track is sublime, I am supprised that is has never been used in movies, t.v etc etc.
@MrGuitaRKing They might be MrGuitarking, but if you are being honest, that Islands is the only one that you can listen to from start to end.
K.C has a lot of rubbish on their early albums; sure you get flashes of brilliance but apart from In the court & Islands you can't sit down to some of thieir albums like Lizard etc. I mean I am K.C fan.......but? lets be honest.
@zakalon123 YOU are an IDIOT!!! I said I prefer Lark's Tongue's in Aspic & Red! They are two of a handful of KC albums I can listen too from start to end! Along with Beat, from the Belew era, Islands & Lizard are my Least favorite KC albums! the only reason I watched this video is because, after listening to Islands & Lizard a couple times 20 years ago, I wanted to give them another chance! Save your comments for latinodude85, THANKS!!!!!!!
@MrGuitaRKing Actually you must be an Idiot because YOU are the one who said this is one of their best because you can listen from start to end, NOT ME!!!!
@ishmaelon I've been listening to KC since High School - 6 years ago - but I guess now in my most sensitive age and I enjoy this different than 6 years ago.... Just beautiful. Peace.

This song has less surface appeal than most other crimson songs, but it has a way of reaching in and getting at me.
It's like nothing else.

In my opinion, this album is the weakest from their early years (1969-74).
