@colorfinger Nick Hornby said it was inspired by Clapton and Pattie Boyd (married from 74-89), about whom he wrote "Layla". Hornby said he always wondered what it felt like for Clapton and other artists to have to keep singing those old love songs to women they were no longer with.
This is probably my favourite lyrical song from the album- so good! Love Bens music but this one is OWNED by Nicks lyrics, all the way until the end of the track when it gets totally bluesy! LOVE THIS ALBUM SO MUCH!
Such a tragic song, despite the "breasts" line making it sound like parody on first listen. He's doomed to his own nightly hell, singing the song he wrote for his one true love. Now every night, he's forced to relive their best moments while despising himself for throwing it all away.
No accident there. Ben got Paul Buckmaster to do the arrangements; he did most of Elton John's arrangements too. Good ear to recognize the similarity!
I wish there was a long version of this "Roadhouse Blues"-esque version at the end. I love the song, but I'd like to hear one just for fun. "But I met some bitch..."
@squishsqo it's just you. : ) It's about a person that only had a one hit wonder about his ex wife belinda and order that keep continuing to entertain he has to sing her song everyday because it's the only one that anyone knows and it's haunting because he was the one that left her in such a cruel way.
Strange feedback for this video once again.

My only disappointment with this album is that it's too short. Tremendous piece of work.

The orchestration on this track sounds so much like early Elton John. That's a compliment by the way.

The hidden track sounds like something Lennon/McCartney would do.

Might be my favorite song on the album after a quick listen.

I don't like the way it is mixed. The awesome piano in the bridge that you hear in the live versions just isn't there.
