  • The video fails to mention that the spiders turned out to be pretty useless at excavating most of the trenches... They eventually did it by blasting high pressure water at them from another vessel. I dont think there were many environmental consequenses though, the seabed was barren mud / clay (lots of fish around though0. The alternative to excavating was to dump millions of tonnes of rock around the uneven bits...

  • sounds like something that could be automated w/o joystick.

  • amazing

  • this is a big project :O

  • this is a big project :)

  • Well If the excutives of these dam companys were not making a couple million a year in wages. And put half of those wages in a incentive plan for developers of clean energy. They would cut the time of development in half or better. But unfortunatly if we had clean or better yet free energy. They would not have the strangle hold that they do.

  • the voice is annoying, the guy fades in and out and cuts off at the end

  • Wow, I'm shocked. This video sparked protest from mostly environmentalists. *rolls eyes* Personally, I think you have to admit that the robot is quite a neat creation.

  • Way to assault the environment in order to serve a dirty fossil fuel economy!

  • Agreed! Did I say GREED? LOL

  • RockMan.. they are not working on a coral reef, look at the seabed again

  • Look at what? The clever animation provided? If you think there is nothing living there then maybe someone should drive one of these machines through your home, then you can give your opinion!

  • Idiots! If they spent half the money taken to 'flatten the seabed' (killing the delicate habitat structure along the way) to produce a floating pontoon of wind generators and solar panels they could produce the same amount of energy with no pollution and party on the other half of the money until the year 3098!

  • Do you have the data to back up that statement? Approximately how much money would be spent in making such a system? How would the energy be transported? How many Kilowatt hours would it need to generate to make up for 20 billion cubic meters of natural gas and how long would that take with solar and wind? How long would solar panels and wind turbines last in that environment? Although I admire the interest in the environment, I suggest that your plan might not be as easy as you make it sound.

  • No I do not have the data you ask for because I am not sure of the cost per person needed to party into the year 3098, it varies per person per night! What I am sure of tho is that if the other half of this money WAS put into renewable energy it would not only supersede this destructive endeavor in energy output but it would continue to supply energy long after the gas has run out and the effects of this violent exercise were realized! Hasanyone everthoughtEartht mayneedit's oil&gas whereitis??

  • Bugger all REAL money (like one eighth of the cost of half of this project) has been put into advancing solar or any other renewable energy source. That is why it remains a second option... Besides how can one afford to party into the year 3098 without the profits from a system that CHARGES people instead of CHARGING power lines?

  • cool i guess....
