I just saw this series of videos, thanks for all of the great info. I'm looking to do an 18 watt build from scratch and have gotten lots of good info at 18watt.com. I'm wondering where to get the PT reinforcing frame that you show??? thanks again, great work!!
is there a place i can download all these videos so i can try and make an amp myself, also could you do a video about wat u need to make it like you have, thanks.
uh mazing! lookin to build a hiwatt clone...with no experience. thinkin the pops can help me beings he has a transformer business making his own parts
Well, I'm afraid I originally misunderstood...you were talking about the *primary* CT. Most of the PT's I see don't have a CT on the primary. So I guess this isolates the primary/mains ground from the secondary/amp/chassis.
I must have also made a mistake saying 'primary' center tap. I only have CTs on the 6.3 heaters supply and high voltage. The PT primary has 0-120-230-240v taps for different voltage standards. Hope it makes sense.
I'm curious as to why you wire your HV center tap and mains ground to a floating lug. I thought these were supposed to go to the same ground point as the power amp?
I think in three parts: power supply, power amps and pre amp. It is really no big reason, and no electrical theory behind it. I just like to keep them grouped like this. Hope it helps!
I've got a question regarding the grounding of an amp like this.
You connect the actual "earth" connection of the power plug to a certain point in the chasis. You connect all the ground connections of the power supply also at that point.
But how do you wire the signal grounds? Do you use a seperate starpoint for his and use the chasis as a conductor? Or how exactly did you do this? Have you ever experienced hum due to bad grounding?

We're at 400 V in Europe. And that makes 200/cos(30) wish is, approximately, 230 V out. Nice clip!

@MartyHITD I'd expect you to get permission from Gabi first, but download "download helper" which will enable you to download any video from youtube.

Hello Gabi,
Hope you are doing well.

Thanks in advance!
