  • I just saw this series of videos, thanks for all of the great info. I'm looking to do an 18 watt build from scratch and have gotten lots of good info at 18watt.com. I'm wondering where to get the PT reinforcing frame that you show??? thanks again, great work!!

  • @obscuredvisionary You're welcome! you can find those on ceriatone(dot)com site.

  • Wow, I'd love to work there, lol. That is how I work, neat and clean with quality!!

  • We're at 400 V in Europe. And that makes 200/cos(30) wish is, approximately, 230 V out. Nice clip!

  • Great work and info Gabi. What gage hook up wire do you use?

  • is there a place i can download all these videos so i can try and make an amp myself, also could you do a video about wat u need to make it like you have, thanks.

  • Marty - I only have them all on YouTube. Once I am done I might collect them on a DVD set.

  • That sounds awesome. Love your videos. Your the best ive seen at explaining things. Thank you ever so much. All my best marty

  • @MartyHITD I'd expect you to get permission from Gabi first, but download "download helper" which will enable you to download any video from youtube.

  • uh mazing! lookin to build a hiwatt clone...with no experience. thinkin the pops can help me beings he has a transformer business making his own parts

  • Well, I'm afraid I originally misunderstood...you were talking about the *primary* CT. Most of the PT's I see don't have a CT on the primary. So I guess this isolates the primary/mains ground from the secondary/amp/chassis.

  • I must have also made a mistake saying 'primary' center tap. I only have CTs on the 6.3 heaters supply and high voltage. The PT primary has 0-120-230-240v taps for different voltage standards. Hope it makes sense.

  • Hey Gabi!

I'm curious as to why you wire your HV center tap and mains ground to a floating lug. I thought these were supposed to go to the same ground point as the power amp?

  • I think in three parts: power supply, power amps and pre amp. It is really no big reason, and no electrical theory behind it. I just like to keep them grouped like this. Hope it helps!

  • Nice job Gabriel, looks very neat, what kind of temperture have you got your soldering station on?I just bought one. Thanks for the videos, David

  • Thanks Dave! My soldering station is a Weller WTCPT with a 700 F tip. Very robust station I love it.

  • Thnx too, gabriel.. Awesome stuff, very didatic. I'll be waiting for the next videos. Congrats!

  • Thanks! They will come soon! Make sure you are subscribed!

  • Hi kakkers!

All your questions will be answered in an exciting upcoming video - hopefully this weekend! Stay tooned!

  • Hello Gabi,

    Hope you are doing well.

I've got a question regarding the grounding of an amp like this.

You connect the actual "earth" connection of the power plug to a certain point in the chasis. You connect all the ground connections of the power supply also at that point.

But how do you wire the signal grounds? Do you use a seperate starpoint for his and use the chasis as a conductor? Or how exactly did you do this? Have you ever experienced hum due to bad grounding?

    Thanks in advance!

  • I am very interested in seeing the rest of this project. You are very generous posting this great tutorial.

  • My pleasure! I'll post another one soon!

  • Thanks! My pleasure!

  • Thanks Gabi! I just love your videos, really helpful. But when will it go on? ;-)

  • Thanks elloccco! I was waiting for this to see how many are curious of the continuation. Even if it is for only you, I think it is worth :-)

The next one will be on wiring the front controls. Stay tuned!

  • thnx, great stuff, very helpful. rexracer
