that is a very interesting question...I know that it is very easy to differentiate between tables with id as the first column in a table, other than that...who knows? maybe it's just a different way of doing things.

This tutorial didn't explain any of the things I was confused about, or wanted clarification on, e.g. why does my id have to be a number? Or does it? A lot of assumed knowledge, so maybe good for people who have database experience already, but no good for someone like me who is new to relational databases.

I agree. I think one of the misconceptions is that this video is meant to help people understand databases. It is NOT meant for that at all -- it's meant for people who have a basic understanding of databases who want to learn how to use phpMyAdmin.
