I remember that advert! I heard Robert Plant's cover before hearing Phil Phillips' original and Marty Wilde's. Thanks for posting! Greetings from the United States of America!
The model is Carol Bouquet a French Actress and one of the most beautifull women in the word, you can see her in others adv. of Chanel ! her beauty is incredible !
Yes, it did air in 1990 on cnn in the fall right after Iraq invaded Kuwait. It would air during the show, "Crisis in the Gulf". Funny how this commercial depicting paradise would air during a show about ongoing turmoil in the world!
Don't no bout 88/89 but after Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, it used to air on CNN during their show, "Crisis in theGulf" all throughout that Fall of '90. The hour long show with Bernard Shaw was from i think 9-10pm est. I do remember seeing this ad few times in late 9/90. Ironic to see such ad showing relaxing and full of pleasure in beautiful locale with great cinemotagraphy compared to crisis occurring in Middle East at that time! Peace of heaven vs. living hell of Kuwait under Iraqi tyranny.
This ad was broadcast in either "88 or "89 not sure. Chanel No. 5 ads(big budget) generally appeared apart every 2 years. Anyway this was around the time Carole won for best actress in '89 for Trop Belle Pour Toi( Too Beautiful For You) opposite Gerard Depardieu whom she later dated NOT MARRIED, as so many sites report. Frances equivalent to an Oscar, Carole has also served as a jury member for many years at the Canne Film festival. Sex and The City anyone? Still a ravishing beauty today!
I remember seeing this on TV in 1990. I was only 9, but I left such an impression that fifteen years later, I started using Chanel products. The song also had a lot to do with it!
But we can tell that it's very stylish, i remember stopping everything and ran to the tv to watch it when i was a child. Publicity sometimes have scary power, if a child run to watch it imagine the women :P loll
siempre tengo presente ese comercial, era un niño de 2 años cuando lo transmitian, no se por que lo recuerdo tanto, es increible, pense que solo vivia en mi mente...

Who is singing this version of "Sea of Love"?
sapphiretaurus 2 years ago
It's a cover of Sea of Love and not the original by Phil Phillips and George Khoury.
But a cover by whom?
Don't know.
Anyone out there know?
thechinadesk 2 years ago

I think that's good.
We should reward artistry by endorsing products that are promoted with taste instead of insulting our intelligence.
That's the only way we'll get more of it.

Thank you! I have never seen a commercial more tastefully done for a cosmetic than this one.

What is the womans name in this commercial?
blaydrunner 3 years ago
Nevermind....I figured it out. Carole Bouquet. I remembered she was a Bond Girl from "For your Eyes Only".
blaydrunner 3 years ago
Correct. Carole Bouquet. She is a French model and actress. Actually she was big in France even before Bond, for her role in a couple of Bunel films.
thechinadesk 3 years ago
She's a natural beauty. Absolutely stunning woman!

thechinadesk 3 years ago

Great version of "Sea of Love"!
Delmo5 3 years ago
I assume that Scott did this one as well. It is highly, highly probable, based on the style and the time the spot was made.
But I have no explicit, documented confirmation of this.
thechinadesk 4 years ago
I'm not sure, but Ridley Scott did a "Share the Fantasy" commercial in 1979...

don't know.... 1980s for sure.
