  • Why is it that everyone's gotta act as stereotypically Irish as possible when commenting on the music of this awesome band?

  • @ArrowParadoxInc I don't know what do you with stereotypically Irish, as I'm not Irish. I made a joke, and I am loving The Pogues for 25 years. Take it easy.

  • An bhfuil an amhrán seo as Gaeilge? :)))

  • @Biervampy I speak Scots Gaidhlig and I think Aisling means "Dream"..? :)

  • @SupersonicSongbird94 Tha sin ceart agad. (Tã an ceart agat). I'm not sure if it the right answer in Gaeilge na Albainn (Gàidhlig). But Aisling is female name, too. I don`t know, if this name exists in Scotland , too.

Oidhche mhath (Oíche mhaith as Gaeilge na hÉireann).

  • @Biervampy Aye, chuala mi air "Aisling" na ainm, ach cha do smaoinich mi riamh air mar ainm Gaidhlig :) haha Tha mi duilich, chan eil mi cho math leat agus chan urrainn dhomh an da seorsa Gaidhlig a bhruidhinn - Sorry! I wish I could type even a wee bit of Irish Gaelic but I don't think I could manage it. Rinn thusa math ged tha :D Oidhche mhath, agus slainte mhath :)

  • @SupersonicSongbird94 Tapadh leat (Go raibh maith agat). It is nice to read a little bit of Scottish Gaelig. One of my favorite bands is Runrig and I'm pleased that a I understand lot of that what they are singing with my Irish knowlegde. If you know some transformations between Irish and Scottish orthography it makes it much easier. For example: Beul - béal, leithsgeul - leithscéal. sgian - scian and so on. Chuala mi would be "chuala mé" in Irish.

  • @Biervampy And the sineadh fada is in the other direction :) Tha sinn òg would be in Standard Irish Táimid óg (Tá muid (sinn) óg). An after the changes in Standard Irish several years ago, there are still existing former forms in Gàidhlig which are no more being Standard Irish (Caighdéan oifigiúil), like saol being afore saoghal. Slàinte mhath, a chara :-)

  • Why does mumble the words so much? Hard to know what`s it about.

  • At the time he had no teeth... He's doing quite well for having no teeth if you ask me.

  • @Declan455 This was recorded during the Hells Ditch sessions, so at the time he was probably extraordinarily drunk, as he was through almost that entire album recording process...

  • @bramstokerful fucking knob jockey

  • @bramstokerful knobhead

  • fuck yea

  • hes a musical genius

  • Sometimes I prefer this version to the one he did with the Popes. Awesome stuff as always, Shane.

  • MY NAME!!!! I imagine they're singing it to me:P

  • loooove it (:

  • Magcowan sounds terrible on this one!!!!!! what a genius*

  • hey swindon u know whats rite how can people argue with fact ....swindon u have a fine taste

  • yeh i have the box set too theres loads of stuff on there thats previously never been released

like there awesome version of maggie may hahhaha

  • Are you sure this is the Pogues? From what album? Where did you get this song from? Shane recorded this song with the Popes. It's definitely not the version from "The Snake" but I don't think this was done with the Pogues.

  • I got it from their boxset of rarities "Just look them straight in the eye and say Pogue Mahone!" Yeah this is an out-take from the Hell's Ditch album recording sessions, recorded in 1990 I think, definitely with the Pogues :P

  • This was released as a single by McGowan (when he wasn't in the Pogues) as a B-side for his version of 'My Way', 'cos I bought it. I think it was in April 1996. Not that I'm saying it wasn't originally a Pogues song, just saying it wasn't a Pogues single that I bought. Maybe Richmond Is right.

  • @HarvsPenzance it was shane and the popes who recorded this one

  • @durks1969

Yes, but this is whit Pogues, its only demo or B-side. But Pogues said him that its song for his solo album, like another songs.

Shane tell it on Drinking with S. McG.

  • @HarvsPenzance mcgowan and the popes

  • @SwindonByf Shane's voice is impossible to miss m8. I've shook hands that have shook his. He's impossible to hide.

  • @richmond450 This ain't The Snake version.
