I'm in the Wind Ensemble for my high school and we're learning this song right now! We just started working on this part of the song today and it's so much fun!! If we play this at the Heritage Fesetival it's gonna be amazing!!
It's an amazingly powerful rendition of a song by a composer who died tragically as a result of the Turkish holocaust of his Armenian nation in 1915-1923. You have brought him to life through Alfred Reed's interpretation. Bravo!
OMG...my director wants out symphonic band to play this and I'm so pumped..I have the music and everything. Sadly we don't have an oboe. But, I'm playing the oboe cues on clarinet:) Super excited now:)
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I LOVE THIS!! WOOO
@ebeniston I have, and it is HARD. It was my first year in Wind Ensemble, and this was the first piece we played. I freaked out. XD It took me about 3 months to actually get it right, and it wasn't anywhere near this tempo until just about two weeks before the concert.
I'm confused because when my band plays Armenian Dances, there are bassoon parts, and in this video, it seems that the oboe has those certain bassoon parts. :/
@kxaxrxsxoxnx In this one, the bassoon parts are played by the English Horn. I play the oboe and english horn and when I played this song over the summer the english horn part has cues for the bassoon part and thats what happened here.
I didn't quite understand "you are just whining on other films to get a life". But I actually do have a life. And a job. And I'm fairly certain it pays more than any job you will ever have.
We're playing this song in my high school's second band right now. This last part is my favorite, it's SO freaking epic. And the Arabian-sounding accidentals (especially that part in measure 231 in the part 1 video right before this part) sound so mysterious and awesome!! I can't get over how cool this piece is. It's been stuck in my head all day ^_^;;
Our band played this at a competition last year, and we got first with a grade of superior. Really gave our conductor a shock. Lol. I love the horn part in this song! <3
Haha, I played this last year in Wind Ensemble and we actually managed to play it about this pace. It's mainly due to the woodwinds carrying the song though. Such an imbalanced band. Super woodwinds. Mediocre brass (excluding 1st. Astronomical jump in talent).
For the people who can't read Spanish, hectordonis is saying that the video names may be confusing, since Armenian Dances itself is composed of more than one part. The video names may cause people to think that they are the first and second parts of the whole Armenian Dances piece, but the two videos are of Armenian Dances Part I, so they should be renamed Armenian Dances Part I(part 1) and Armenian Dance Part I(part 2)
As a bassoonist, This piece is a godsend!!! The soli (in part 1) really perfectly matches the characteristics of the bassoon sound. Plus we play the furioso sixteenth note licks at the end. They're so much fun. I played this in state honors band here in wisconsin so it sounds just fine!
I'm in the state honors band in Wi, too! :) The clarinet soli around 0:50 to 1:07 is beast! This piece of music is all around fantastic for the whole ensemble. :D
Most definitely! I play the clarinet, too and we did this song in my college's symphonic band last semester and it took a LOT of work to get that done right and up to speed!!!
ha, this song is the funnest to play (you should see the percussion of our high school band) I'm glad i'm in wind enssemble cuz i get to play awesome songs likie this. I play tuba and my favorite part is like from186-end :D (and 402-awesome :D)
I Think this is not so good. The interpetation is not good. It's to slow. To much trompet, trombone, bas. On 1.30min. there is al acceleration, but i've heard im not. The end is also to slow.
we're playing that this year for nyssma. i really like this piece. you did a great job recording it!i just played along with this, it actually helped. thanks! =]
this is really well played :) I played it in my high school's band a couple of years ago, and as I was a sophomore flute player, I didn't get to totally enjoy it because I was too focused on getting all of the notes :) I'm glad I found this!
As a fellow trombone player, I am quite disappointed in your grammar. THEIR sound may seem sort of shallow, but the song is naturally light anyways, so that may be why. That's how it sounded when I played it at least...
alfred reed obviously wrote this piece as a dance, like you said it's light. except for that beautiful chorale part but at measure 224 where the tempo picks up parts of it are supposed to sound like laughing. it's so cool if you listen for it. it's around measure 106 where the flutes have this little like haha thing going on and then the rest of band picks it up. lol sorry i just rambled hahah :-)
Love this song. I was in IMEA District and we played this song. Unfortunately, I had the 3rd Clarinet part :P I'm going to prepare much sooner this year. This ensemble blew ours out of the water though.
