  • Is it thinking "where the fuck am I? this is not my ordinary body"?

  • is anyone actually believing this? XD

  • YEP ROBOTS ARE GONNA TAKE OVER YOU KNOW HOW MANY ROBOT VIDS I SEEN CYBORDS ANDROIDS ROBOTS THERE GONNA TAKE OVER

  • rats were killed in the making of this video.

  • NO STOPPP, HAVE YOU NOT SEEN THE MATRIX, OR THE TERMINATOR!?!? AAAAAAAAAAAGHHHGHGLJHSljhdfsefpipj;d;kj blaaaaagh

  • That's real cool stuff.

  • that rat must be bad trippin

  • The title is misleading, did they take a rat brain and put it into the robot?

  • @behnamasid Yeah, it's a rat's literal brain in that thing

  • Yay now they are on the right path to making a better processors :D

  • Can they put a microphone (for ears) and a speaker(for sound) onto the robot?

  • So these are "biots", then?

  • i made similar robot. It did not need to rat brain, so makers of this vid can put it into a trash:/

  • When I die I want my brain in one of those

  • Why ?

  • FUCK IT OILED ON ME

  • amazing O.O

  • But the Question is.. Will it fit in my asshole?

  • @MrSeedyoldman no and i dont think it wants to go up your fat ass with all of those oreos you were saving for later

  • Now this is News I Can Use. I wonder if I could build a robot controlled by my roommate's brain? It could still go to work and pitch in on the bills, but I could reprogram it to leave me the #&@$ alone.

  • Exterminate, exterminate

  • couldn't we take human brain cells and do the same thing and make an even more advanced model?

  • @J4SNT

Yes! There are plans to do such a thing and funding at the university has been secured. There is currently a debate between the team on whether to cultivate a 2D network such as the one in this video or a 3D structure. From a Cybernetics perspective a 3D network of human cells would be an incredible as it would increase the number of neurons tenfold. If your interested you should view the works by Kevin Warwick, the head of this research,

    Source: Warwick's lectures

  • Cyborgs.... Oh shit!

  • using ping (untrasonic sensor)

  • its all fun and games until Androids rule the earth...

...seriously, kinda weirded out by this. Should be worried of this happening? lol

  • @celtic5yamum maybe or maybe not.. check the Technological Singularity theory (by the futurist Ray Kurzweil)

  • Damn..

  • lol, think how fucked that would be, waking up as a robot, but not a cool terminator kind of robot, but a little square that can barely roll around on wheels x)

  • Now do it with human brain cells.

  • Wireless !

  • It's almost like a real-life Dalek, but nicer to us. For now.

  • KILL IT! KILL IT WITH FIRE AND MAGNETS

  • this is so cool and scary at the same time!

  • But will it blend ?

  • Oooow creepy

  • I had no idea this sort of thing was in development, very good .

  • ..but.. will it blend?

  • @DeeeJayVegas That's the question! :))))

  • It begins..... pretty cool though, this technology will spread in many ways. While they advance in this they will discover more on how the brain works which will be used in medical science. Plus just the fact the living brain cells are controlling is really cool and creepy at the same time.

  • @thefuzz1542 no,usa will make rat robot super soldiers......

  • Fuck thats amazing

  • thats nice, but will it blend?

  • Morons killed a bunch or mice to build bullshit who fucking cares..

  • @Dorisequador care to offer your body then?

  • @heylookurdead I offer my piss in your mouth from my cock..

  • @Dorisequador HOLY SHIT THAT SOUNDS DELICIOUS!! POOR IT ON ME BABY!! ROFLME

  • @heylookurdead Ok here it comes I ate Pinapple so tell me if you get a hint of it.

  • @Dorisequador ASSHOLE it's coconut!!

  • @heylookurdead Your such a great tester You got me hahaha It's Coconut.

  • This is how Glados Started.

  • So i guess this gives a literal meaning to "the cpu is the brains of the computer"

  • So that's how Krang from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came to be. "Splinter! I am your father!"

  • SO world will be run by cyborg rats.... 2100

  • robo pets!

  • I get an idea. it will be wonderful, if someone will study their learning process and programm it to for example some minecraft mob, or some virtual body, then it will eventualy learn and it will be first computer living creature :D

  • Can I volunteer my brain for the next one? All I ask is that it flies, is over 3 stories tall and comes equiped with machineguns and rockets.

  • this is 50% fake

  • I don't see where is the breakthrough here

  • @eyrddghd6 self aware roombas duh its a no brainer

  • Ratbot

  • Laws of robotics are pure fiction. Robots are already being used to kill. And that's the first and foremost job they'll be used for until they're cheaper than slave labour. Which isn't gonna happen until true global citizenship and equality comes into being, which isn't gonna happen while we fig-bottle our little parlour tricks into more and more games to amuse ourselves with. Never mind the animal rights issues of a rat-robot, it's first and foremost about human rights. The right to work, etc..

  • (cont.) so while you can't have a slave imported from a third world country, you are well within your rights to ignore that same person while they starve to death, while you spend hundreds of dollars on a 1980s robot trained to fetch you a can of pop, let alone all of the millions spent on a Japanese robot that gives directions to tourists or distributes coffee cups in the office! Or how about the predator drones so our soldiers can become total cowards, as opposed to bombing safe at 30 000 ft!

  • I used to have a plastic ball that rolled around the house that was controlled by a hamster brain.

  • @SoyBoySigh but then you took an arrow to the knee?

  • @SoyBoySigh but then you took an arrow to the knee?

  • @SoyBoySigh I used to make Skyrim jokes, but then i took a vagina to the penis

  • will it blend?

  • A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.

  • @1Nekit1 That has nothing to do with this

  • @1Nekit1 Reminds me of IROBOT.. or whatever that movie is, with will smith, you know what im talking about.

  • @newsscientistvideo

GIMME MY GHOST IN THE SHELL CYBERBRAIN IN 2031!!!

  • Jeezuz its technically a cyborg

  • It's not moving like a rat. I don't buy it.

  • Cyberdyne?

  • This is perfect timing. Just as Detroit is running bankrupt, cyborgs are comming about....heh, robocop

  • try with human neurons maybe react and develop in diferent and new inteligent way don't forghet we are the first in evolution chain ............look for people from the morgue ask them ....after a people dies 24 hours the are lives the neurons not all , but you find there some ....noroc !!! :))

  • give them 10 years and we'll have cyber rats, give them 20 and say hello to the Cybermen

  • WHAT THE FUCK!

  • I guess the brain tissue is kept in a locked container, fed with oxygen and a mixture of nutrients.

  • Can you plug a mouse into it? *comedic drumroll*

  • @Xanatos712 WIN

  • WHAT THE FUCK!

  • this is a bad bad bad idea.

  • @HauntedKitty777 this is a good good good idea

  • @Mynameisnotooo no, bad bad bad Idea

  • @HauntedKitty777 no, good good good idea

  • soon they will use us as batteries.

  • My god, the future is here.....

    and noone noticed

  • how do you feed the brain?

  • did u fuck up a rat or somthing to get brains,,,

  • all I can say is AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • No brasil ja é tecnologia passada , os políticos ja a utilizam a muito tempo, logo depois que eles descobriram q nao precisavam de seus cerebros para roubar, a gente ja deixa de graça o dinheiro para eles.

  • The rat is alive? i can not understand. I feel me bad by the rat D,:

  • @pesodemas - There is no rat attached to these brain cells. They really did "grow" the cells. Frankenstein move over.

  • Hi guys. Just here to comment on your favorite channel. New Scientist videos suck ass, seriously. This is chewing gum for semi-geeks.

  • Fucking singularity. Is near.

  • @adrianbmv1 my thoughts exactly, man. what are some of the signs, Mind Upload? Artificial Brain? both of which, i believe, are present in this video. sure, its a rat brain, but how long before its a human brain?

  • How stupid can you get? ANYONE SEEN A FUCKING TERMINATOR?

  • @vexronin what?

  • still looking for the cheese ?

  • when i die, i want my brain put in a robot

  • ok......seriously?? they can do that? thats so cool!

  • I'm scared now

  • do you kill the rat and takes the rat brain and put in the robot???

  • @meteoldragoblader123 yes. that is exactly how its done.

  • @trimi38 coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool!

  • How did i get here from minecraft?

  • wow..that's insane! in the membrane : )

  • will it be attracted to cheese?

  • @HoneyRoastedTurkey not necessarily. Ours (politicians) are only attracted to power and money.

sometimes not in that order. We get our necks broken in the trap and they come along and take the cheese (money). We have small ones (mice) and big ones (rats). The big rats have usually been around a long time.

Most of them live in or near the white house. The smaller rats live around state government houses. After they've eaten everything in the state they move to DC to start infesting it.

  • @HoneyRoastedTurkey i doubt it has smelling nerves

  • Put your brain inside the robot... like ghost in the shell...

  • poor rats...

  • and who is controlling our brain :-)

  • how did they get brain cells to multiply and work together!?

Some things in life I will never understand.

  • This is interesting. Is this supposed to be the precursors to Ghost in the shell style cyborg tech?

  • Soooo where is the rat at ?,I cant see it ! :D

  • @kadmany rat brain u dope

  • @kadmany ReAD THE TITLE NOOB, SAYS: Robot With "RAT BRAIN" not Rat in robot? noob

  • @kadmany They reincarnated the rat as a cyborg.

  • Laugh all you want but it's this shit right here that'll spur Skynet. Just watch.....

  • not a big deal. The US is way ahead of you. We've had things with rat brains

for several hundred years but we call them politicians.

  • @rob1248996 hey, same here!

  • @rob1248996 Even at that is giving them too much credit there.

  • this is the start, imagine whats next...

  • Top comments should realize there are other crazy rogue AIs out there >.>

  • Next we get GLaDOS

  • Yes But Will It Blend?

  • no no no this aint good! They r gonna take ova

  • next we get a third top comment saying the same thing

  • That's fucking awesome. What gets me though is how did they manage to get the brain cells to comprehend the required electrical impulses to send through the electrodes to perform specific actions?

I am thinking we are on to something big here.

  • Cool stuff

  • Damn science you scary

  • There are some lines that shouldn't be crossed. I think this is getting close to one of them. The title is misleading because it implies that a brain was removed from a rat and placed into a robot, which I think is crossing a line.

  • Ah yes, Reapers. The immortal race of robots with rat brains allegedly waiting in the UK. We have dismissed that claim.

  • That Rat never asked for this.

  • i can do better with a spartan FPGA and some lines of codes i actually wrote!

  • @blackwolfsquadron

    Cool. I wanna see.

  • NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE

  • But can it blend?

  • i wish they could make robot soldiers with brains of baboons and set them loose in the streets

  • but can it keep my floors clean

  • RatBot: Mooo!

  • Why dont they just put human brain celles in Asimo?

  • @BjarkeDuDe

it is because if we do that, alot of people will be quite unhappy with the company. especially those religious group. look at what happen when we tried to use human eggs to clone humans.

  • So is the rat still conscious in their or did I not understand?

  • @Krikreduo The brain cells were grown inside a lab, not taken from a rat.

  • black mesa's catching on!!!

  • Robobrain.

  • awsome now we got cybrog rat army to deal with!!!!!

  • Well aren't we well on our way to having our planet taken over. GREAT.

  • Comment removed

  • So what did they do? Grow a brain, randomly connect it to electrodes then watch the neural network do its job? :P

It's interesting, but I don't see it as a replacement for computerised robots, which are easier to exercise control over. Also, many moral issues may arise, therefore making more advanced robots with a biological neural network; undesirable.

  • thats not tight. hasnt anyone seen the movie AI ?? or read or even watched the magna Ghost in the Shell?

  • Rat brain powered terminator apocalypse, I said it first.

  • shit! just leave the world how it is! dont test on animals you dumb asses

  • @okaymichellee Ha! If we did that, humanity literally would not exist! Seriously, our entire selling point as a species is that we never let nature be. That's why we're on top. Now, as for animal testing...these are rats, people kill rats all the time. And plus, this isn't a mouse inside a robots body, it's a growth of brain cells taken from a mouse humanely and then grown inside of a petri desh, so that it can recieve instuctrion and function as an entirely new entity. Call it artificial life.

  • doesnt that mean they can do the same with humans?

  • @yougotit96 Yes

  • i want a rat brain processor for my computer!

  • Eww

  • No freaken way...

  • Can it learn... Many many movies have taught us not to let them start learning!

  • @chill579 many movies taught the humans not to make war. but we do, we do.

maybe someone should show us, how to learn from the past ;)

  • @chill579 yes it can learn, there is no diffrence in the neurons when they were in the rat brain and now. :)

  • Science. It works, bitches!

  • Can this run crysis?

  • what controls a robot? Chuck testa

  • I think that's basically what they did with Robocop, cept for they used the guy who played Robocops brain instead of a rat.

  • GROW A HUMAN BRAINN NOWWWW AND DO IT

oh wait the retard christians will block it

  • @bernie23232323232323 Christians don't believe the soul is in the brain, so it's the atheists that would block it, and rightly so. You're basically willingly creating a retard in a jar.

  • @MrJohnthedoe Wrong, christians would block it for the same reason they block stem cell research(even when stem cells are grown seperately from a babies body)

    Atheists would never block this.

  • next it'll be human brains...

  • @Kkyyrruu its scary. They'll probably kidnap the homeless peopleand use there brain or take anyone for this

  • What happens if your robot gets moody or has a headache?

  • I have a dream!

That one day computers will not be judged by their price or processing speed...

...but by the content of their character
