So getting screened is important. for Bajuuni, actually white females have a higher chance of getting breast cancer then blacks. However, blacks are more likely to die from it then whites and this is related to socio economical reason.
Breast cancer is highly curable if detected early as the video stated. Our women need to be mindful of this disease. For men, prostate is the main problem and affects African's more then other ethnic groups. The big problem with prostate cancer is that symptoms don't arise until it is an advanced stage.
For example, they found that Japanese people have low levels of breast cancer, but those who migrated to North America had a higher incidence rate. Why?? it is the environment, and this is the same case with Somali people ( related to diet mostly high saturated fat diet).
This is great to see that the my Somali community is finally addressing this growing health problem. I'm a radiation therapist, so I treat patients with all types of cancer with radiation. detecting cancer at an early stage is the key to survival!! I am seeing more Somali's with this disease because it is related to the environment one exists (north america).
It's great to see this issue being addressed in our community. Cancer is colour/ethnicity blind and thus affects us just as much it affects those whom we believe it's confined to; it's just like any other chronic disease. The sooner Somali women learn about the risk factors, self-diagnosis, and about prevention, the more lives that could actually be saved as a result.
I have been looking for this. Breast Cancer in Somali women is unreported of.

God forbid, every woman (including Somalis) is at risk for breast cancer. And remember black women are more likely to get it than any other races.
