The United Kingdom uses a higher voltage than we Yanks (Americans) do, is it 230v? What hertz does your alternating current cycle at? I ask because of the "hum" heard before the record plays. The old valve (vaccuum tube) equipment over here didn't have the hum, unless a valve was burning out.
