Nobody understands that Jeremy is the poor guy, more than Mark. He's looked at himself and didn't like it, and he's trying his best to change. In return he's being used by someone he loves, and punched in the gut for doing nothing. Most people feel more sorry for Mark because he's always complaining in his head. Jeremy just takes it.
