Also, Julian Bliss plays it far too fast. The tempo marking is 'Allegro non troppo' so I reckon Jose plays at the right tempo. Julian is just showing off, Messager would be tearing his moustache out
@IAmAllKnowing29 This is not very difficult piece.Mostly scales up and down. The most difficult part of it is to let it sound as a lyrical piece and not as technical study or show piece. To see what I'm talking about then I highly recommend that you listen to the recording of the Nielsen concerto from 1970 I think with John McCaw and the Philharmonia orchestra.
bravo! this is a very mature rendition of a showpiece. while looking at music while listening to this, i enjoyed the way you laid out the melodic material and the cadenza was wonderfully paced, too. since i know that you are a professional of growing stature, i'm sure you don't take take these people's 'tips' with a grain of salt. keep doing what you're doing and leaving the others in the dust! cheers from cleveland!!
4) This is somewhat of a personal preference. The sextuplets in the slow section sounded like pairs of triplets. I've found it easier to play when thinking of the groups as 3 sets of two, not the other way around. It also creates an interesting hemiola effect against the piano's strict duple melody.
It's quite good. I enjoyed your interpretation, however I do have a few constructive comments for you:
1) Your dynamic range is rather small. Everything sounded like mezzo something or other. This piece is not all that musically complex so add some character with some really impressive softs and louds.
Nope. I know what it looks like though and I heard him doing it; the clarinetist was puffing his cheeks a bit to carry out that phrase on the last part of the first page like around 1:10 and 1:17. I really want to learn that! There are people that I've heard play "Flight of the Bumblebee" that do that breathing quite often.
but very very very nice tone, reminds of Julliard's Clarinets, thats what the world needs more of, more julliard clarinet sounds instead of the harsh, loud tones that ppl play with. uG, that dirves me insane hearing that tone....
WOW this piece really inspires me so much!!! I'm working on Solo de Concours by H.Rabaud and Schumann Fantasy, and after those pieces, would it be appropriate for me to challenge this piece or is this too advanced?
Wow, this is a great performance! Thanks for sharing. I am learning this solo right now and watching this video really opened my eyes. The musicality of your playing was incredible.
You're very good and musically mature!

And then listen to intellectual structure, style, pacing, subtleties, and you will find Franch-Ballester far exceeds most flashy players these days.

Is that a Peter Spriggs Floating Rail Ligature I see?

@slipknotmetal66666 You can definitely see by the gold plate on the site of the ligature that it's a Rovner model.

2) Similarly, it seemed a little held back. It's such a fluffy showpiece, and there was enough raw emotional output.
3) Check your intonation in the slow section and the cadenza. Since we normally don't use vibrato, we clarinetists must have perfect tuning!

hahaha no han kim does not play better :) i know , i am music instructor/// ...
so before making a fool (AND B*TCH) out of yourself, try having a better life and study the art of clarinet a bit more :)
slipknotmetal66666 2 years ago 2
I am music instrutor too!
I have a degree in music!
And han Kim have 11 years old!!
Play very well for his age!!
are you sure that you are a music instrutor?
Catarina6100 2 years ago
you are 18 lol ,
btw a music intruCtor wouldn't talk like this , and would give constructive critisism ...
age doesn't matter, its about how you play the piece now ! not at what age ...
slipknotmetal66666 2 years ago 2
If you are a music instructor then you sure lack of proffesionalism.

han kim doesn't even have a descent fingering and his tone isn't even clear ,
this man in the video can play the piece 1000x more beautiful =)
