this is a horrible zipper video. im sorry to say. if this is the back of a skirt, for one, its way more pretty to use an invisible zipper. in that case alot would change. Installing a zipper is an art, and the seams make it look so ugly. it just looks so unappealing
if u can't find basting glue or don't like useing glue on your frabric try basting tape. it's tape that comes in a thin role and it's much more accurat then glue and it washes out, so there is my edvice :)
Wow, that is super easy! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! adding zippers always scared me too!! YAY, i am so excited to add zippers.. whoohoo a zipper here and azipper there... a zipper everywhere! =)
Zippers r easy, just put my first one EVER in my snazzy minnie mouse costume. Fun times. No Fear, Just Pick A Method You Feel Cumphy With... There are other Tutorials Mix n Match =]
sorry but that does not look easy to me. i think zippers are just something you have to be patient with and know that it's a multi-step process in which each step must be executed well in order to have a sturdy and straight zipper. do-able, but not necessarily easy.
I was afraid also...can i say something? I keep forgetting how to thread my machine..It's a simple brother machine..can anybody help me? I use to take my boys sleepers and take them apart and make new ones out of halloween material when they were babies..you can do that with any clothing..I also made a little halloween costume for his little pooh bear to match his...and no I'm not advanced at all...I dont follow instructions in books..I have to do things my way...
lol ON TO SEWING CLASSES!!! *doesn't even know how to use a sewing machine yet* but hey, I'm learning :3 (I NEED to learn if I'm gonna start making my own costumes from now on :P )
Thanks so much for the zipper demonstration- I was honestly clueless how to sew zippers before this. Now I'm going to go sew a zipper onto my pillow cover! THANK YOU
thread banger has become too commercialized in the past year, i think. and the projects are easier and there's more public stuff, OH it's STILL a great show, but they seem to tell us how to make really easy things now. that's kinda good, but kinda bad for people who are advanced and don't keep their sewing machines in the grandmother's closets.
well...i guess if people were "advanced", they wouldn't really need help from threadbanger. but then again, i disagree that things are easier now. but that's cos i'm not "advanced".
And how would you propose for one to become a threadbanger, without having had any basic instruction? I can't remember Threadbanger ever stating (even way back before they "became too commercialized") that they are geared for the "advanced" Now that we all know you are completely above "the basics" .....maybe some of us would also like to get some of that!
hey, don't remark on things i said 4 months ago! i barely remember saying it. i was probably talking about how much out of MY range the old stuff was. i don't know, the whole show has changed SO much now. it's all good. easy stuff is easy. i'm lazy. it's all good.
Did anyone see that necklace at the beginning that the chick with the hat was wearing, it looked like she made it out of a wall plug cover thing, that was dope? Anyone know how she made it? Message me, I will forget I posted this? lol
Davylp, I don't see a wall plate for an electrical receptacle; but there is a keyhole plate for a lock, worn as a pendant (best seen ~1:00). It's silver-toned (nickel-plated, maybe) and the sort of thing you might see on a cabinet door or drawer.
An electrical plate might be better for a belt buckle, in my opinion. ;} Good luck.
Threadbanger folks, thx for the stimulating d.i.y. inspiration.
I used a zipper foot because I have one, but you could use a regular foot - or even hand sew. And I sewed a seam that was 1/4 of an inch away from each side of the seam. So what I ended up with was the middle of the zipper peeking through the seam (the part that I cut away) and two seams running down either side of that seam (about 1/4" away). Does that help?
Awesomely easy to understand for the most part. But I don't understand the part where you're actually sewing the zipper in. What kind of foot? And what do you mean about the quarter inch? I'm a total novice -- can you tell? But I guess anyone scared of zippers probably is, right?
Hey Rob & Corinne! Im thinking about making an advent calendar for my bestest friend. I could need an idea on sewing cute calendar bags. Have an idea? Thanks, youre awesome!
Great video. This would have helped me when they made me take Home Ec way back when. I wanted to take Shop with the guys, but no...I was tortured for years with cooking and sewing. LOL

Thanks for the zipper bit! I was a bit intimidated by putting a zipper in a teddy bear sleeping bag, but now I think I'm ready!
Plus? I have that same pair of birdy scissors, inherited from my grandmother. :D
