  • Is there anymore films of sailor Tom in action?

  • You go uncle.

  • The music sucks, lol

  • Tyson would kill em both

  • @jollyroger1889 Sharkey??? are you serious .Sharkey couldnt box at all,and like the rest of the cheese champions, was terrified to box any black man.At least Burns had the balls to actually fight Johnson..even if he made it almost impossible.

and Jeffries win over Jackson meant nothing,as Jackson was already dying from tuberculosis at the time. The best heavyweights of the late 19th and early 20th century were black men that never got near a title shot because of the cowardly colour line.

  • @cuntyballs07 Sharkey was one of the top contenders. They weren't terrified of black men, contrary to what black people like to think. They fought and beat many black fighters before winning the title. Because of racism, promoters didn't want them to fight colored fighters.

Rest assured, Jeffries put ton of black men in their place. Jackson, who hadn't lost in over 13 years. Armstrong, one of the top blacks. Griffin, the #1 black who Johnson couldn't beat. Prime Jeffries beats Johnson easily.

  • @crowley0312 So if he fought black men before winning his title then why didnt he face Jack Johnson who was a live body unlike old shopworn Jackson B level Griffin and Armstrong. Jeffries used the old never fighting a negro line. Even newspapers call Jeffries out on him for ducking Johnson.

  • @JMDinamitaMarquez Lets make something clear: Balcks and whites fought eachother all the time. The line was only drawn sometimes for the title. A typical fan would tell you Johnson was he first to fight for a world title. A more experienced fan would say Gans. But the smartest fans will tell youit was Frank "The Harlem Coffee Cooler" Craig that challenged Tommy Ryan for the MW title, and lost by KO. Ryan was Jeffries trainer. Wouldn't target Jackson's age. He was undefeated for a long time and

  • @JMDinamitaMarquez showed no signs of aging. Yet Jeffries blew him away. Do you call Griffin and Armstrong B level because they lost to Jeffries? Griffin was the #1 black, he beat Johnson. Armstrong is like the black Sharkey in skill level; still a worthy opponent. If McVey fought Jeffries, he'd be less remembered to. Jeffries was, like Ryan, not a racist. Promoters wouldn't allow him to fight colored men. No newspapers called him out, they wanted him to draw the color line. He only fought

  • @JMDinamitaMarquez Johnson because a large amount of money was involved. Very similar to Ali-Holmes. As such, I consider Johnson's win over Jeffries as signifigant as Holmes' over Ali. Which is to say, hardly signifigant at all.

  • @cuntyballs07 Let's also not forget Johnson fought the worst competition out of all of them. All a bunch of middleweight and/or old white guys. He's only famous for being black. As soon as he fought a ready to go heavyweight, he got knocked the fuck out.

  • @jollyroger1889 Jeffreis fought big name fighters but how good were they when Jeffires fought them?

Fitzsimmons was 37 and 40 years old when he fought them and perhaps 170lbs? Corbett was far part his best three years removed from his heavyweight title. Jeffiies was by most accounts lucky to catch corbett late in the fight. Sharkey would fight a totall of rounds with Jeffires in two fights but would later be Ko'd easily by Fitzsimmons and the medicore Ruhlin.

  • @jollyroger1889 You forgot to mention Sam Mcvay - who unarguably deserved a title shot but was consistently beaten by Johnson. Theres a reason Johnson got a title shot when no champion would give one to a black man.

  • Jeffries would toy with todays out of shape novices. Contrary to what all of you idiots cant see is one hell of a fighter on this vid. He would be just getting warmed up when todays bums are out of gas.

  • @TheRichmich no he wouldnt

  • @TheRichmich maybe, if he could make cruiserweight

  • Jeffries is my great great uncle!

im proud to share the same last name (:

  • @hawkschrldr28 What! Jeffries is my great uncle! My names is Patrick Jeffries!

  • jeffries > myself > muhammad ali

    hawahaha

  • Not impress with Jeffries

  • Nice work on the time correcting. I can almost make out some of the work in the Jeffries-Sharkey match now. This was supposed to be one of the greatest fights of its time.

  • how can he be 1 of greatest boxers of all time he is shit i mean COME ON MAN!! HE CANT BEAT ANYONE THESE DAYS THATS FOR SURE. ANY1 HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT LET ME KNOW

  • i have a problem with that, jeffs size, strength, and athletic ability would have carried him far, and, givin the current state of boxings heavyweight division, he would probally beat any champion/ top contenders

  • i dont care cause u tellin me he come now and fight like he did here ur mad its just them little white kids who hate black champs

  • well...you really cant tell much from that film....but he was a big guy by any standard...6"1, a solid natural 220...you should look at the footage of jim jeffries training.....i cant say he would beat the top fighters, boxing has changed, but, im sure he would beat any club fighter and journaymen and maybe more..and im sure he would whip ass on you and me.

  • Yep these foolish youngins fail to understand a couple of simple things. Put any modern boxer against Jeffries, Jack Johnson, Bob Fitzsimmons, John L. Sullivan and it'd be no contest, for despite their lack of modernized and enhanced skill, these guys were so fucking tough they could easily take a punch that would kill most modern fighters. They were just stronger and tougher in a way we personally would probably never know.

  • well, im not sure if the top fighters of today "wouldnt stand a chance" but those guys did, in most cases, have a edge on mental toughness..and i wouldnt underestamte them...

  • The only edge I'd really give the modern boxers would obviously be technique and overall skill/reflexes But the average man in the old days (the lower classes at least) were physically and psychologically conditioned in ways that would be completely foreign and somewhat unfathomable to us now. The rigors of daily life for the poor and the farming classes would be overwhelming to today's man (I've tried lifting the things they did with ease and it was like trying to lift a skyscraper lol).

  • well you may be right...of course even today boxing is mostly a sport of the lower class....having said that..it could be arguered that todays lower class has it almost as easy as the upper class of 1900 did....but who knows...unfortantly we dont have a time machine to find out.

  • Oh the awesomeness we could see if the wayback machine really existed!! :)

  • true enough...oh i invite you to take a look at Jack Dempsey Bill tate sparring..thats some good stuff

  • Oooo thanks I will, Jack Dempsey's actually my favorite power puncher of all time (that one shot he cracked Jess Willard with was fucking brutal).

  • @zyphoid666 All I can say is, True Dat. The average man is about twice as strong as the average woman. Modern living has made us soft in the West. The movie Wall-E, where people can't stand up, isn't that far off. I think we have half the strength, physically and mentally, of our grandparents. Thereby my great grandma would have kicked my arse. It's said the Roman Empire ended because lead poisoning made people too stupid to rule. The symbol for the end of the West may well be a Snickers bar.

  • @zyphoid666 that's a fact, the way they trained back then and what they had to endure. Fighters back then had far more spunk and drive than today. A lot of the techinques used back then are not even printed in the books today.

  • He's my great great great uncle. My grandparents have a set of his gloves bronzed!

  • Jeffries is my favirate boxer. I copys of these 2 fights & the one with Johnson on dvd plus a short interveiw too. Shame most judge him of the Johson fight.

  • James J. Jeffries is my great great uncle. I'm Lydia Jeffries

  • very nice!!! I wished he would have met Jack Johnson before he retired to see how it really would have played out, but at that time I dont think Jack was as highly rated as later on and there was the color issue of those times.

  • Well done! With the time correction and other enhancements we can now get a better view of Jeff in his prime. I with there was film of either one of his fights with Corbett.

  • YouTube has been a windfall for Boxing fans.

  • Thanks for making this video. I have been looking for footage like this.

  • Excellent !!!
