  • 5 people seem to have let go of themselves ¬_¬

  • Sounds like the Ramones... "loudmouth", "I don't wanna go down to the basement", or something. I'm sure they were familiar with this!

  • what genre is this???

  • Comment removed

  • It's called glam rock at it's finest :)

  • At 0:10 when he has curly hair, Bowie resembles Robert Plant. I hope you folks know who he is.

  • @bubbazep01 duh lol

  • @thatcrazyass That's good lol

  • @bubbazep01 Bowie and Plant do resemble each other with curly hair and if you dont know who either of them are then thats just sad.

  • sounds to me like effortless rock and roll!

  • Bowie rocks and still is rockin

  • my first album i had ,great way to start your teenage years ..and still listening to it !

  • just the best

  • "She's a funky thigh collector"....damn, I wish I'd written that line.

  • I have the original cassette from the seventies. But, its been listened to so much that every song on it got tuned up a half step. I still listen to it.

  • @guitardouche666 I've got the original vinyl, and on the cover there's Bowie with that incredible skinny suit, so sad and sweet. ♥

  • One of my fave songs from him. This was like punk before punk. So fucking kl. That guitar.

  • Love that Ronson guitar! Bowie sure knew how to choose musicians who were superbly talented. Bowie is a genius and he's always had great hair too.

  • bello che e' david fossi culo...me lo sarei inculato volentieri...

  • Really fantastic slide show, superb artist, listening to him since the early days. No singular vocalist, or improviser, innovator holds a candle to Bowie. Whenever he combines with other world class artists it is enough to bring one to tears, of joy.

  • [Sycophancy]

  • This sounds like a proto punk song. Is this the rumblings of punk rock getting ready to burst on to the scene? I think so.

  • @noblesiner the ramones did copy this riff, cant remember which song right now.

  • Comment removed

  • no, it sounds like the ramones long before the ramones even existed. do you talk like a music critic as well as write like one, that must be irritating

  • This is the only man I'd ever marry.

  • Thumbs up if you feel better and dance like final day when you listen to this song in a pub/club/party. Genius Bowie.

  • i love thissss!!!! dont u love it tooo???

  • His looks are like Katherine Hepburn on acid.

  • Sexy! Fucking amazing ass song!

  • This is my fav Bowie's song

  • hang on hang on hang on hang on hang on hang on hang on

  • David + Mick = MAGIC!!!!

  • 5 people can't hang on to themselves

  • You know the beta comes out better on a stolen guitar. you're the blessed we're the spiders from Mars. What can you say about lyrics like those? Genius!

  • @alexandermorison

Be even better if you got the lyrics correct mate

  • @tiredmole What is it then? I thought it was 'beta', might be 'The bitter, etc' but I thought that was correct.

  • Probably the most underrated song on Spiders from Mars. I also use "tigers on Vaseline" in conversation to spice it up and shock even old ladies- who look at me and say "naughty boy" and then they take out the record and play it so the joke is on me.

  • @11xzxzxz I dont think so. Despite the song "Holy Holy" was recorded by a Bowie alone, the most 'famous' version is with the Spiders from Mars and its less famous than " Hang Onto Yourself".

  • @ferdinandsouz Not sure what we are disagreeing on? If you are saying the Spiders version is famous that doesn't necessarily meant it's not underrated anyway. Never heard Holy Holy

  • @11xzxzxz And the Bewley Brothers is probably Bowie's most underrated song; I've reconsidered and couldn't get into Holy Holy. Neil Diamond's Holly Holy is probably better.

  • @11xzxzxz So hear Holy Holy. I'm crazy about these song LOL and maybe is better than Hang Onto Yourself. :D

  • @ferdinandsouz Yeah you got a nice collection of songs.

  • Dear Mr. Bowie, Thank you for being sooo DAM SEXY!

    Love, Your obsessive fan girls

  • BOWIE & his tigers on vaseline - Fantastic classic dance rock track - thank you for posting! DAVEDJ

  • Oh Mr. Bowie, little did you know what you would unleash upon the world with this spritely, lively tune. For a huge fat Valkyrie arose from this song, towering over the world with a cornucopia in her hand. And from this horn poured out nuclear missiles that became the roaring, snarling anarchy of the Ramones, the Leper Messiahs, and all of Punk Rock.

  • he is the greatest singer ever

  • He's the white Michael Jackson

  • @Asskicker32294 I can't see analogies, beetween them ;)

  • he is the most beautiful man in the world and the greatest artist i ever seen

  • the ramones song "teenage lobotomy" sounds almost exactly like this song

  • Comment removed

  • I really want to move like a tiger on vaseline.

  • @Kubrickfan1 I recomend a good dose of " Jack Black " ( Oz slang ). i.e. Jack Daniel's Old No.7 Kentucky Bourbon whiskey. Works for me, well it did when i was 25. LoL.

  • Hes gorgeous <3

  • Bleiben sie auch sie selbst_!

  • greene64 can go fuck himself...:)

  • @lulualice1

    I agree.!!!...:)

  • @greene64 why did you come to this video if you were going to put that stupid comment? If you dont like it dont view it.

  • @greene64 I'm sorry, but really? Why would you even say that? What the fuck is going through your mind that you think, "Oh yeah, I'm going to insult someone and no one will care." Smart thinking, buddy. Real clever.

  • The song that kicked off Punk Rock.

Ramones lifted their riffs from this one song.

  • looks like Annie Lennox in that second to last pic

  • The first time I ever heard this song was via a man who spent most of his life as a 'roadie'. He worked for Peter Frampton, Billy Idol, Prince, among others, and he also worked for Bowie for awhile. He would recover a stolen guitar for someone very close to me. Just recently he committed suicide.

  • The day I heard my first Bowie track, I died and went to heaven (I was 12 - 1978 Stage album). I am now aged 44 and still there!

  • Hey, daddy-o

I don't wanna go down to the basement

    There's somethin' down there

    I don't wanna go

    Hey, Romeo

    There's somethin' down there

I don't wanna go down to the basement

  • Happy birthday, mr Bowie!

    I love u SO much...

  • This man is so beautiful although I hate seeing him in his drug days because he looks so fragile. You just want to hug and kiss him and make it all better. I love this song, one of my many favorite Bowie tunes. I LOVE the last picture of him, he's so photogenic.

  • Is this the first punk song ever?

  • Dunno but it's from his glam rock period.

  • Check out I wanna be your dog by the Stooges in 1969

  • Oh, good call.

  • I would think Helter Skelter was the first punk song.

  • Actually, "I Don't Want to Go Down to the Basement" is way closer to this song than "Loudmouth". The section from 0:08 to 0:18 in "I Don't Want to Go Down to the Basement", which is repeated several more times in the song, is exactly the same as the main riff in this song, except in a different key.

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars was released in 1972, two years before the Ramones were conceived and four years before the Ramones' debut album.

    So there you go.

  • I now know more

  • 70s again,that decade rocked the world!!!!!!

  • yeah! so cool!

    nice guitar sound.

    good job! mick!

  • fukin amazin

  • love it!!

  • love this song!

  • this song sounds a little bit like the Ramones (Loudmouth)

  • i was just thinking the same thing,

but both bowie and the ramones are amazing so thats fine by me :)

  • dont you mean ramones loudmouth sounds a bit like this song ;)

  • im gonna do it

  • COOL

  • I'm not overly fond of the ziggyperiod but hang onto yourself is marvellous.... come on!

  • For me I think it is one of his best periods. I like it really much, the Ziggy ear.

  • The Ziggy period was interesting, but leap forward to Aladdin Sane - which is my favourite album - and he is at the height of his powers, and even more amazing, you have station to station, heroes and low to follow. Tin Machine was rubbish, but back with a bang with Hours and Thursday's Child and I will Survive, which he has done for the last forty-odd years. Brilliant artist!

some faves - loving the alien, jump, underground ....

  • You're right. I basically stopped with Bowie after the 1974 or so. Alladin Sane was great.Like the Hunkey Dory and Diamond dogs albums too

  • *merci

  • 1:27!!!!!!

Two of my favorite things in the WHOLE WORLD COMBINED!!!!!

  • bing bong

  • how kissable is he.this song is fab i love the colourful bowie what an artits he is there is absolutely no one like him.

  • yabba dabba bowie!!!!!

  • simply an "ICON"

  • You really should hear the live version

  • follabilisisimo, el mejor

  • One of the earliest Punk songs. At first, I didn't see how David Bowie would influence Punk music. But after hearing this song, I can see why.

  • Awesome video! Those are some great pictures.

  • I bet The Ramones could have done an incredible cover of this one! Although, I don't see Johnny doing Mick.

  • Do you mean Joey? ;) Nobody can do a Mick like Mick does, but Joey's style was original and really, really good. I had the pleasure of having him hold my hand while the band performed a ballad, of all things, in 1979 at Randy's Rodeo, of all places!

  • Wow, do u remember which ballad? was it Baby I Love You or I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend? Any which way that's pretty cool. I meant Johnny Ramone doing Mick Ronson. But now I think he could have pulled it off.

it's only rock and roll! And yes darioshenry88, this was a precursor or blueprint for punk.

  • Absolutely! It was the latter.. "Hey little girl, I wanna be your boyfriend.." I was (and remain!) on cloud nine. It was among the most remarkable moments of my life. Coolest part was that we (my brother and I) were on the front page of the newspaper the next day (our photo.. Joey holding my hand, with me swooning; my brother pogo dancing! ;) I have a guitar pick, too, though I am not positive if it is bass guitar or regular guitar.. It says "Ramones" on it. Great times..

  • The first picture reminds me of the actor who plays House. :P

  • One of my faves Bowies the man

  • Coolest guy on earth.

  • Nice song! Bowie is the best!

  • where did you get the great pictures from ?

  • linda griggs and nick wilcox.plus graham browne.worthing sussex 1972-73.nuff said.

  • could he be more sexy? great pix ^^ i love you forever Bowie! BowiezGirl4LIFE!!!

  • But, I've been dead for years.....

  • He IS beautiful

  • Right son, you've had your day. But keep making albums, thanks.

  • david bowie is a bi-sexual,right?

he acting like a homo and like a streight by his moods XD

and what abput his guitarist mick ronson,is he gay too?

well, even if they are I don't care 'cause his music is FUCKIN' AMAZING!!! david bowie is one of the most genius rock legends ever :P

  • Sorry, I think you will find that Mick Ronson is, in fact, dead. So he can't be gay. He's dead. And by the way, that is very disrespectful to talk about the dead like that when thay can't post a reply on this board. Would you want this if you were dead?

  • From what I have read, Mick Ronson was not gay.

  • Not that it matters to me, but Mick Ronson was very straight!..Bowie persuaded him to wear the makeup etc as he'd "get more girls"...I believe it worked! By the way Ronson was from Hull, a tough northern English town and he'd probably have punched you in the nose for that!

  • 'you're the blessed we're the spiders from mars' and 'like tigers on vasaline' are like the best lyrics on the song! FANTASTIC slideshow, good pictures and a fantastic tune! well done! thanks for posting x

  • love this song!

  • beautiful job here thanks
