This tour was the first time I ever saw Kiss, I was in high school in '79. Saw them at the Spectrum in Philly in Sept, I believe they had dropped this tune from the set. I surely remember New England (Paul produced the first album), and the Rockets (saw them twice). When I saw this tour Judas Priest opened the show (and were just killer!)
the picture with Kiss in straight jackets is an interesting story. originally Dynasty was suppposed to be called Asylum. hence why they are restrained in straight jackets. however when the album name was changed to Dynasty, they had to still use the shots with the jackets, so if you call remember the vinyl sticker, its the same pictures but it was doctored so it looked like Kiss was wearing all black. i still have my poster..
At the beginning of that tour Peter had electronic drums called "Syndrums". He got rid of them midway through the tour because he said he couldn't get into them. Anyway, you can hear him hit them once or twice at the beginning of this clip... you can hear the strange electric reverberations... that's the Syndrums which I didn't think really fit the Kiss show.
this had to be an awkward tour. they sound so weird and as though they arent' getting along and from what we now know shit was hitting the fan. ...sounds like a rehearsal. i don't hear the crowd unless it's direct off the board.. but still.
how bout the Cats and Granatti Brothers?Opened for Van Halen 80 and 79 respectively in Memphis.Great song by KISS(Tossin and Turnin'.
They had dropped Radioactive and T and T by the time I saw them in Memphis and did Let Me Go,Rock and Roll and Christine Sixteen, which was very cool. That 79 show is the only concert I ever saw where when the roadies took the tarp off Petes' drums the drums got a standing ovation
I don't think more songs from Peter's solo would have worked on the Dynasty tour, but I agree it's the best of the four (from '78). It's a GREAT album.
Youre just speaking out of sympathy for your hero, the truth is , Peter's album was the least favorite, if it wasint for the KISS logo and the makeup Peters solo album would of been one more throw away album from the record industries, Ace's Album was best , Paul second and gene's was that much better than Peter, But even gene's album could of been better while Ozzy Osborn and Alice Cooper were creating the next Monster of rock album gene was singing Pinochio, & other stuff that sucked c'mon.
Peter Criss' wasn't that bad, there's plenty of people who like it. It's just the genre. It's an R&B album made for hard rockers...People aren't going to like it
Let it be understood, Im not saying I dont like Criss, Just that his album could of been more rock and roll for what he represented, he wasn't in a jazz big band or nothing of the sort, especially R&B, His black diamond song was the formula to create a killer album but he chose to dig deeper in the Beth branches and that was the result, I like the album, the fans only got it because to them just like me was one more peace to the puzzle of kisstory to collect, and today its just nostalgia
Peter had the most marketable voice in the band and if he was a little more confident in himself and worked harder and wasn't distracted by the rock'n'roll life style, he could of been as big as Joe Cocker or Rod Stewart. He just needed to team up with better writers and HAVE A WHOLE NEW IMAGE rather than the one he used when he did those forgettable solo albums after kiss. If anyone can remember the commitments, this style / sound was huge in the 90's. He could of been the one revamping it....
@Metamorfozzo Sorry to dis. But Peter had the right record for the time period. They just were not smart enough to jump on it. It was much like Bob Seeger or R and B of the time. It was very dance oriented and could have Club appeal if it was marketed right. Another lost opp. due to Gene and Pau'sl ego.
They performed this on the Dynasty tour when they came to the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia, SC in June 1979. White Face opened. Does anyone remember them?
Now that is some good butchering of a tune right there.

This song is awesome! And it was great live. Too bad they didn't play more songs from Peters album. I think that was the best of the '79 solo albums.
