My favorite oscar is definetely cinematography, it's like the most important part in a movie for me, but the cinematography is often affected a lot by the director so I guess they're both kinda similar in a way.
In my experience, the director is usually influenced by the DP, otherwise - he would have hired someone else. This is the one business in the world where you can seriously screw yourself if you don't listen to the expertise of the photographer.
OK but I like the directors who make up their own cinematography, at least a bit and I think there shouldn't be no such thing as a director of photography, cause directors with real talent, in my opinion should be good cinematographers.
You have to understand something important thought. There are only two jobs on a set held by first timers. Productions assistants and directors. Very few directors understand nothing about light. I've worked with some very talented DP's - trust me when I say this, very few directors are worth their salt and are constantly made to look better because of the DP's.

Ok I didn't know that, do you think that's the case with Guillermo or Peter Jackson or Steven Spielberg, besides what DO the directors do?

AWESOME!!!
If the real oscars were that short life would be much better.
I can't wait to see how many of these are correct. Sometimes Oscar does what Oscar wants.
