I finally got to see Casablanca for the first time recently and could not control myself from picturing this skit during the part in which both Elsa and Rick insist that Sam play "As Time Goes By"It was perfectly parodied.
I've watched the real Casablanca, but I must say I like the song as it's played here. It sounds much sadder and better suited for the plots. To bad the didn;t make the Rick Muppet say "Here's looking at you kid" at the end.
Does anyone have any SPACESHIP SURPRISE clips? (Especially the old versions)
I always liked this when i was a kid. Does anyone know if there is a sesame street dvd with this skit and does anyone know what year this skit was made?
This kind of bored me when I was younger, but I quite like it now. I can tell that Rick is performed by Jerry Nelson, but what about Sam and Ilsa? And I'm also a bit curious about what colors those characters are.
This had such a strange effect on me as a kid. It made me sad, giving me a feeling like "it's all about to end" or "welcome death gently". (best I can describe it) Especially the "You will alway see" part. I even had strange dreams with that song on their "soundtracks".
It's haunted my memory for seventeen years and now here it is again. And ya know what? The effect hasn't diminshed much with my newfound adulthood. Guess some things just scar ya for life if they get ya early enough. :}
Wow. That is really interesting and amazing. I kind of know what you're saying. That's occasionally happened to me, though not with this song. Like I said before, I found it boring as a youngster, though I don't now.
Oh yeah! I remember this one since childhood. Sam keeping his boss entertained with the alphabet and his boss getting so adicted to it he won,t let Sam go home at night or even the next morning! Sam,s gonna get sore knuckles after a while!
Doubt that the kiddies got this reference! This skit looks possitively marvelous in black and white. Rick wanting to hear the alphabet over and over again seams like a substitute for alchohol!
What year is this from? Never knew they did a Casablanca parody! Haha.

I like more the spanish version of the song in the beginning.

Sam is voiced rather appropriately by Kevin Clash.

How many little kids saw this, grew up, and saw Casablance only to think "Oh my God, now that Sesame Street clip makes sense!" :) So cute.

I remember this. The good part was that guy asking the piano player "play it again Sam."
joeywomer 4 years ago 3
Actually, he just said "play it sam." The 'again' comes from Woody Allen's parody I beleive

A letter-perfect parody, if you'll pardon the pun. Five stars!

Oops! Rick says "Play it again, Sam" the last time he says it, in the morning.
What a great little spoof. The set looked great!

"As Time Goes By", the song from "Casablanca", made me cry if I'm a multimillionaire or a multibillionaire.

That's a great one! I remember seeing this as a kid! I always loved Sam's exasperation as the boss kept requesting- "Say it again Sam!" LOL :-)
