@MrTrip3ace Actually, no those were worldwide statistics, not nationally. I don't think Ford has ever had the best selling title for global sales. (not in a long time anyway)
@G0Far They only sell very well in the states. They aren't doing hot in other countries where bigger automakers like Ford, GM and Toyota are doing excellent in.
@MrTrip3ace Ford surpassing Toyota's sales in 2009? Those statistics are as far off as Dick Cheney's aim when he goes hunting. Ford was halfway to liquidation, along with Chrysler and GM in the summer of 2009. All of the 'big three' were bailed out then. Chrysler didn't escape bankruptcy until summer 2011.The only reason why they're actually still around as corporations today is the massive use of our taxpayer's money.
@IdentifiableUser Ford was never Bailed out. They went through a restructuring program in the early 2000s. The goverment had no choice but to bail them out. If they would have collapsed millions of jobs could have been lost.
@marcvie9 uuuhhh no don't think so, if the benz truck was tested against any of the other sedans in the same class as the taurus they would have failed.....the taurus was and is ford's best car ...sorry!
mutilated by the germans, We lost the battle, but against a hummmer or ford expedition, we gonna win the war, also press 6-7-6-7-6-7 repetedly to see tug o war!!! and press 1 to see the merc laugh at the ford and pushing it away from him
Before all you Taurus fans start congratulating yourselves, you should know that the entire purpose of this test was to illustrate how effectively Mercedes has addressed the incompatibilities of Car-SUV collisions. The 1998 ML was the world's first SUV designed with a frame that can engage that of a car in a collision, instead of overriding it and crushing the passenger cell. So thank Mercedes, not Ford, for the Taurus' performance in this collision.
@japtraplex I agree with you but you also have to credit Ford with constructing their 'cell' better than many other makers at the time. Imagine if this were an ML vs a 96' Galant or an 96' Jetta... You have to credit both makers in this specific test.
Bs. Taurus was always good in crash ratings. Its used by a lot of families, so Ford made it safe, unlike their late 90s F150 trucks. Even earlier Taurus models always got 5 stars and was even rated Good IIHS. I think in 1995 when IIHS started offset testing, only Ford Taurus and Subaru Legacy passed the test. Everything else in the midsize car segment failed.
@filmftw3 Dude, if Mercedes hadn't made that frame the Taurus' performance would be horrible. That's the point of this crash test. He explained it clearly, if you don't believe him then go on Google and do some research.
@bigfatjohn120 the reason it didnt break is because since around the 60s they have put special film stuff between two pains of glass. that holds the glass together so it doesnt shatter. but in the taurus, the pasenger side airbag has a valve that shoots throught the window in a frontal collision. Why? i dont know.
yeah i actually had a 96 taurus and my sister sold it like a dumb bitch and i was hit by a cadillac in the front right above the tire and it was going like 65 to 70 and i didnt get hurt at all neither did the other two people so mercedes can suck it :]
@lrossi888 I doubt it. The 2006 version of The Bull protected me against a speeding teenager in a Land Rover. Not only does this Taurus not regret the words, but I don't regret re-purchasing this vehicle after that crash.
So yes, if the car was a living being, it would regret thinking it's a good idea to crash into another object at speed.
By the way, there are hundreds of cars that do well in crash tests. The Taurus isn't special just because it and a Mercedes got into fisticuffs and both lost.
@lrossi888 I never said the Taurus was special. Your words, not mine, pal. Neither of these cars "lost" anything--they were simply crashed into each other to see the result of their impact...you know, how well the passenger compartment held up, whether the passengers (dummies) were "injured," etc.
It's not a high school basketball game or anything...no scoreboard whatsoever.
After the collision, the Ford owner will just buy a new car, Benz owner will go broke fixing his Benz, or will have to pay more to get a new one. Bottom line: if they are both equally fucked in a collision, why not get a Ford?
@MSNIMSM So the mercury sable... My mom owned one :p For such a big car, we couldn't fit all 4 winter tires in the trunk, a feat we can do with her current ford focus. WTF??
i really dont care who wrecks the most as long as the cabin is intact we are all good.

@MrTrip3ace Actually, you're entirely wrong. Toyota was the best selling maker of 2008, 2009 and 2010. Now, GM has the lead for 2011.
