Sigma has released a more recent 8-16mm lens. What do you thin of this lens? is the 8mm much more desirable than the 10mm when it comes to landsccapes? Im not so concerned about f stops, more about getting the composition, image sharpness.
Is the tokina lens designed for cropped sensor cameras for 450D? otherwise the 1.6 rfactor would make it into a normal kit lens zoom range.
@00Q I would pick it over the 10-20mm because I really like ultra wide angle but quality it is probably the same. 8mm will probably show more distortion than 10mm.
@QQQQcon Thanks, I just bought a second hand 10-20 Sigma lens because it is quite cheap. Quality isnt too great, but I do enjoy the composition the 10mm offers.
When you shoot landscapes with this lens, how do you decide what f/stop to use? for example when to use f8, f11, f16 and f20?
I was wondering since i have a sony alpha a55 dslr camera, I was looking for an ultra wide angle lens for landscaping, indoor photography and basically an all around versatile wide angle lens. Would it be better to choose the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC Sony-alpha --- Or the Tamron SP 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 DI II Sony-alpha
. Lenshero.com recommends the Tamron over the sigma, yet after looking at a bunch of forums and reviews people find the tamron to be very poor in quality. Thanks!
If I can get this lens (the canon-mount equivalent) for $415 used from a pro who's upgrading to L glass and simply doesn't need it anymore, should I buy it? I'm considering
and to tell the truth I think I like the sigma more than the tokina.... less chromatic aberration, faster autofocus, and the sigma gets wider!! 2mm doesn't sound like much but is visibly wider. the tokina does feel nice though. well built.
I really like your reviews QQQQ no over the top comments just a fair assesment. I went for the Sigma as I nearly always shoot f8 & above and my pension money is fairly tight. I agree totally the fall off at 10mm is rather dramatic but PShopable unlike my old film cameras when a curved field image had to stay as was.
I think the Tokina is a better lens its certainly faster but as long as i work within its more narrow limits the Sig works well & at £100+ less than the Tokina it was my choice
hey there, just wanting to get back into photography and debating between the nikon d7000 with this lens, or starting back with the sony nex-5, i understand the differences but what would you advise for a beginner?
HI Roy from Ireland, Great video. I am looking for some advice. I am slowly (when i have the money) putting together a selection of good lens for my Canon 7D. I have the Sigma you showcased as well as a Tamron 70-200mm 1:2.8. What lens would you recommend to compliment the above mentioned lenses, I could use for city breaks (e.g. shooting people, moving cars, some nice buildings, that sort of thing). A small aperature number at about 20/25 metres range, or so. Ask me any question to clarify.
everyone talks about f stops for speed. if you doing landscapes you also want to consider f stops for colour

does the tokina 11-16, or tokina 12-24 have a sharper image compared to this one? which of the 3 lenses do you prefer?
SawDogProductions 1 month ago
@SawDogProductions I would say both tokinas are better than the sigma. 12-24 for landscape photography, 11-16mm for low light.

@00Q around f/11-f/16
QQQQcon 6 months ago
@QQQQcon is there a hard rule to choose the numbers between 11-16 ?
00Q 6 months ago
@00Q there are no rules in photography but for most situation f/11 is the sharpest and optimum setting.
QQQQcon 6 months ago
@00Q A lot of lenses lose quality past f/11 and f/16 because of diffraction. Knowing what f stop your lens starts to lose quality at is must.

@QQQQcon is there a rule to pick numbers between 11-16? or will any fstop do in that range?

@jeffgobens that is already close to what it is worth, you can get a much better deal for a used sigma 10-20mm

There is a reason why this lens is made for APS-C size sensors you will get a better quality overall

Why wouldn't you recommend this lens for your camera body? Isn't your nikon full-frame? sounds like the perfect body for this lens.
freezazoid 10 months ago
@freezazoid sigma 10-20mm is a dx lens so it wont work on an fx camera.
