Quito airport lies at about 9.000ft... Imagine the extra thrust those engines need to generate for takeoff !! Especially in hot weather with no wind...

What could have been a very good video about a professional KLM crew was ruined by disjointed and jerky visuals, and that awful thudding music that everyone seems to think should be part of aviation videos these days.Please clean up your act detwilers, you can do much better than this. Come on guys, stop acting like a bunch of angry schoolboys! That horrible accident happened a long time ago and all operators (notably KLM and Pan Am) learned some hard lessons. Yes I am a pilot who flew for the USAF and a major carrier in the USA, but I would be happy to fly on a KLM flight. They run their cockpits very well.

PanAm taxied on a part they didn't had clearance for and the ATC was listening a football match and didn't spoke English well. The captain (van Zanten) was a friend of my father and was one of the most experienced pilots of the world so he never wanted that.

The FACTS are that the KLM Captain (Jacob Veldhuyzen van Zanten) DID NOT get confirmation from the control tower at Los Rodeos that the PanAm was clear of the runway NOR authority for take off. Captain Van Zanten did not want to run out of flying hours as KLM would have had to fly in a new pilot - these points were confirmed by the KLM 1st Officer, Klaas Meurs.

It WAS the Dutch Captain's fault but to this day, KLM have NEVER admitted liability.

Officialy reports tell us it was the fault of KLM (taking off without permission), PanAm (missing a taxiway without reporting it) and ATC (doesn't spoke English well and not concentrated)

Since 911 the door is locked during flight but you might see in before or after the flight. There is nothing except the cost to stop you learning at 14. Most flight schools will let youtake 1 or 2 lessons without signing up for any course. If that is too expensive ask them which books or DVDs they recommend. Maybe you could buy the flight computer (a sort of slide rule used by all pilots) Best of all samples of training videos are free on Youtube, King Schools, Sporties etc.

It's all part of "Lola's Theme". There are different versions of it. The "woosh" sounds were added by the creator; the height readouts (500,100, etc) are generated by the aircraft radar altimeter and of course the crew and ATC communications can be heard. Well done.

Sure not! According to gauges and cockpit style, it is a BOEING. According to the upper and lower EICAS, and throttles controls, the number of engines is 4, so it is a 747. The 747-200 has old analog instruments, this one has newer EFIS (NDs, PFDs and EICASs) so i think it is a BOEING 747-400 or something similar :)
