Was this when Lawrence Welk was only shown locally in California? I watched a special on Lawrence Welk on the PBS channel and I don't think he went on Nationally until 1955. Am I right. Myron Floren was a virtuoso! Is he still with us?
Myron Floren was such an amazing accordionist. He has been one of my real-life heroes ever since I was just a young boy back in the 60s. I still admire him. He always looked like he was just having fun! He was a true performer and a master musician! I wouldn't doubt that he's playing polkas for the angels up in Heaven at this very moment :)
My dad didnt understand english and saw only 2 shows on tv. any boxing matches and the Lawrence Welk Show. He especially liked Myron Floren. I remember he always had a smile when watching the show
@7lloyd777 REAL music! REAL racism! REAL nuclear threats! ...why not go back to the common practice period, where you can hear the origin of your lawrence welk-type real music. I'd like to send you there.
Again David you are being bias. Shame on you. If Dick wasn't married I'd swear you was dating him or something. Dick was indeed great but I feel Myron was a master as well as Charles Magnante. They both could give Dick a run for his money. Again, I always loved Dick Contino and he was an inspiration to me.
I have to say that Dick Contino has been a family friend for over 40 years & we love him very much... As for Myron & Charles, yes they are masters, but Dick is the BEST!!! Close friends with the Diero family, as Dick is more then I...they are best known for the Accordian, and they will tell you the same....
Are you related to Dick Contino or just a girl friend or something. I see you always putting other accordionists down and kissing Dick's naked ass. Shame on you!
I love Myron's version of this, but no one can beat Dick Contino on "Lady of Spain." He still does it in his live performances. He is the one who made this arrangement famous. A lot of people took accordion lessons after hearing the Contino version.
A lot of Dick's arrangmenets was for show. The master accordionist is Myron and Charles Magnante. They could play the bases without blinking an eye. I loved Dick but I know the accordion and I know great performers when I hear them.
There are many great young accordionists out there but I must say they are not from the USA. I have heard some fantastic artists from Russia, Italy, France, and Luthawania. they are more into the Concert Style of play. The music has changed so drastically since Contino, Magnante, and Florens days.
Floren is king. This performance is nothing short of incredible. He was the man. RIP, Mr. Floren.

At about 1:35 it sounds like he throws in a little of Just Because, and goes back to Lady of Spain. Did Myron ever play any French java music?

Don't EVER play "Lady of Spain" again!

Damn, too bad he's gone. He could fill in for Kimmo Pohjonen with KTU.

As someone who's been trying to play the accordion for the last year and half, I have to say that's frickin' impressive.

I like how his hair is all out of control at the end of the piece. There was never a better song for the "stomach steinway" than Lady of Spain.

Impressive...Floren's hair flying out of place at the end seems a precursor to Jerry Lee Lewis' flying locks, later in the decade..

You are right about Magnante and Floren, but Contino is a great showman and entertainer.
I only hope we can get some younger performers who are as good as these guys and have as much success in promoting the accordion.
