It has always been about rich boys and thier toys....
This has been an entertaining spectacle, but because it was broadcast on the net, the media industry dropped it like a stone because there was no money to be made, hence not much build up before the race, as everyone would go to the net rather than the TV...
I hope they retain the fast boats for AC34, to quote a great sailor, "They race greyhonds instead of turtles for a reason."
The boats are fast, techy and cool for sure. However, since peaking in Freemantle, the whole deal has been a downward tumble. Rich boys, courtrooms, no character...
Like JensenBeach88: A nice duel of technologies and money. A sailing contest NOT.
So, I didn't know there was this race and I think this edition is the death of the sailing if they don't change the rules for coming back. I miss old edition of Louis Vitton cup, america's cup and so on..
So, wo denn?? Die Zusammenfassung in den Nachrichten?? Weder auf SF1, noch auf SF2, noch auf SF-Info wurde die Regatta live übertragen! Das ist FACT, und hat nichts mit Ahnung zu tun.

Who cares about the Swiss . The only person they would no on the boat would be Ernesto . Would the Swiss know who Murray Jones , Brad B , Simon D too name an few . How can you support an defence that is run by foreigners . Shame on you for beleiving in Allingi !!!!!
oracle trounced alinghi in the first race today. these boats are technical masterpieces, beautiful from some aspects, hideous from others and utterly ridiculous as boats, too fragile to sail in any but the calmest weather. the race has become a farce. and is is blacked out on us tv, so it does nothing for the sport in the publics eye. for those who are, like me, scandalized by the cost on such trivial pursuits, it does employ a lot of talented folks.
Seriously. I don`t get it. How come the finals for the AC will be completed with multihulls and what`s more interesting two different ones. Its like normal local open regatta. Is this the first edition with multihulls? And why is this cat vs. tri.... What is going on. What`s with AC90 class..
The Cup has resorted to a deed of gift set up; this means practically unlimited rules. This happened as neither team could agree on all of the rules locations etc. so the cup will now be competed for only by team Oracle in a best of three series in Feb.
but the BMW oracle.. has so much more money to build.. so much funding lol so it make it even.. the more they change rule the faster we develop ways to to kick ass lol
but do you not think that just two boats being able to compeate for the oldest cup in sport is fair?? do you not think there should be more able to compeale??
I see ur point..and ur right can be a problem. But on the topic of being unfair..well the other challengers really dont have there out hardcore funding or flow... but do u feel like the actual boats should handicapped..similar to bowling where the small boat can make up time.. once the bigger boats finish or no....so that the race can be judged eqaully by the race commitee
Well the America's cup has always been a regata between two teams. How the challenger was chosen or decided has changed. But the America's Cup is more of a duel than a typical regata... which makes it that much more epic. The Louis Vuitton cup is not part of the America's Cup. They really want to keep the essence of the Regata as being a duel, not a race.
the Loui Vuitton Series help make the Cup in the last 25yrs , it was an intrical part of the AC , I think you have underrated their pressence on the cup.
I didn't mean to underestimate the Louis Vuitton cup. I was just saying that it seems they found it more important to keep the America's Cup as a duel than making sure the Louis Vuitton cup stayed alive... Plus 25 year is 7 editions out of 33 now. It really isn't as critical as it may seem.
Louis Vutton left after team NZ lost the 32nd Challenge . They stated if TNZ one then they would keep their affiliation of the Americas Cup . In short they didnt think Ernesto was working for the intrest of the cup . He was an Ahole .
Also I'm all in for the Louis Vuitton Cup, made it longer and more exciting. But I do believe the America's Cup has to remain a duel no matter what :)
@jacktheripped Wrong actually. Usually teams compete in the Louis Vuitton cup to decide who can challenge the current defender. This didnt happen this time. The Louis Vuitton was actually raced as the Louis Vuitton Pacific series around the same time as Alinghi and Oracle were facing it off.
Being a New Zealander, its nice to know all the best teams crewed mostly by New Zealanders.
yes i supose sailing needs that too, however the americas cup is watched by millions of people and it is like in a sence an ambassador for the sport do you not think that by making it a hi hi buget competition it will turn people off it. yes sailing does need hi buget competition but it should be done in someothere cup. were there is loads of room for development.
the old americas cuo boats at least looked like normal everyday yachts that people could realate too.
well your right... but the racing with not turn people off...becuase of reveloution in building boats...im am yahct racer and a high school sailing coach....i have sailed on stars and strips and discovery located in..RHODE ISLAND..so yea with out high budget there wouldnt be a reveloution..
I'm right behind you. I don't know why anyone would want to cheer on a NEW ZELAND team bought out by the swiss. I'm curious to know what SPrestonUSA has against BMW Oracle...?
"a NEW ZELAND team bought out by the swiss"??? There are 10 guys from NZ on the Oracle boat. Go on the website of Oracle and you will see that there is only one american in the team. Half of the Alinghi team is swiss.......

Congrats, Team Oracle, for winning the 33th Americas Cup!
Alinghi is 2nd. But the real loosers of AC33 are the swiss fans who can not see AC33 live in swiss public TV!
Shame on all You public swiss TV-stations for not supporting our Crew!
You are responsible that switzerland is no sailing nation anymore!

@grimesy131 Many more DID compete, This is the finals of a competion that eliminates the weaker boats so only the best two compete for the Cup
