guys calm down geez. first, and foremost let me say cars already drive themselves. remember the DARPA challange? --- you should read more than "an" article. also check into the UPI crusher. So..... with tech like that, who needs tech like this. Dangerous? I agree. But it might be helpful for wheelchairs. too bad they can look both ways when crossing the street though.
This is possibly the dumbest thing I've ever seen. If you're driving down the road, and see something that seems threatening and turn your eyes to look at it, you die. and @lc3package, this is the stupidest advancement in science ever BECAUSE it has no practical application. This will never work. Ever. Science is different than art in that science, by nature, is practical, whereas art is creativity.
Ofcourse it's not pratical on todays roads; but geez; when did you guys become such a bunch of whiners. I can't imagine world inventions being led/pioneered by people like you 'Oh! it'll never work! It's stupid!'
It's called abstract thoughts and idea's. Even scientists like to get creative. Why get all up in arms about it.
people are you seriously that dumb to think that they would actually sell cars that are driven like this?
You should inform yourselves a little before you comment, typical youtubers, no wonder people from other networks hate you (I personally don't, I'm just saying they do, and no I'm not a youtuber, I just came to see what I had just read in action)
The car will drive itself automatically with detectors and cameras, you will only tell it when you want to turn with your eyes..
Don't talk about being informed. You are obviously not so well informed on this. If you steer it with your eyes, then it does not drive itself. One tiny distraction will cause one big mess with this. Thus, it is not practical, thus it is a worthless advancement. Who the fuck needs to track eye movement anyway? What kind of practical application would that have?
@SignedAnon lol, man, shut up. 3 things just so that you know:
1. I'm obviously more informed than you, I read an article about this and for what I've read in your comments, you haven't... it's either that or you didn't understand it.
2. It doesn't drive itself yet, but the idea is it will, and you will only steer it with your eyes when needed.
3. The simple fact that you think that you're smarter than those who created this, makes you look dumber than you already are, so please stop.
I have an IQ of 157 and you're sitting here doubting me. If the car will be able to drive itself, why would you ever need to steer with your eyes? Who is that lazy that they don't even want to put their hands on the wheel if the car is in any sort of danger? And trust me, with the proper funding a resources I could easily do something more beneficial with my time that what they have done there.
lol, just 157? I have an IQ of 198 and I'm telling you that with the proper funding and resources many people could do more beneficial things. However, you should understand that people who provide funding and resources don't decide it by flipping a coin, they know what they're doing and your made your conclusion in 5 seconds...
It's useless, and it DOESN'T work!!!! It did follow the car in front, but it didn't follow the same track! So if the car in the front will drive left-right-left You still follow him on almost straight line. I wan't to see the slalom using this system. The most important question is: WHO THE HELL SPEND HUNDREDS THOUSANDS EUROS TO DEVELOP STH THAT USELESS???? You will never substitute human!!!!

...so...when there is danger ahead, like you see someone losing control or not stopping, and you obviously look at it to calibrate your move to avoid it, what? instead, you go directly into it?!? or even when you stop at a crossroad to go right, and you must look left to see if somebody is coming...? I appreciate the effort of this study, but I honestly don't see much room for an application in the real world...
Interesting theoretically, but nearly useless practically. People look around when they drive. Certainly, this may become useful for the physically impaired (especially quadriplegic people in this case - the ideal because they cannot move their neck and head), but never for people who have the ability to use their arms. As CuervoBlack06 said - one distraction can very easily lead to disaster.
Nice video, very interesting! thanks for sharing, god bless!

It only takes one big breasted blond jogger to distract you and then Bam, you just nailed a kid on his/her bike.

@CuervoBlack06 ...or that jogger.

@CuervoBlack06 No, the car drives where you LOOK...so you would've run over the big breasted blond jogger.
