Anywhere you go you get what you pay for you idiot. There are some wonderful hotels in that city, but if you went there wanting to pay less for hotel room than you would pay for a cup of coffee at home the guess whatt, you got exactly what you were paying for.
The Dominican Republic is a tourist paradise.. With gorgeous beaches and five star hotels. One of the top tourists stops in the Caribbean. If you want truly worthwhile accommodations then why not try paying the dollars that they are worth. You cant categorize DR due to this crappy hotel, there are many more worthwhile hotels out there. You should expect what you pay for.

Next time you want to travel, leave me a PM I rent vacation rentals in New York City and Puertio Rico. I deal mainly with French nationals and have a French speaking staff. My apartments are super clean, and a lot less money than a hotel. If you want some photos, let me know.

Yes, "my" tv was actually in my neighbour's bathroom (we can see his shower curtain...) and "his" tv was in my bathroom, in a wooden box. At first I thought it was a cupboard...
I paid about 8 dollars a night, which is quite expensive when you see the hotel... I had planned to stay 3 or 4 days, but I didn't want to stay longer after the first night !!!
If you think Puerto Plata is nice and beautiful, there are 2 possibilities :
1. You've never been there and you've seen beautiful pictures on internet...
2. You've been to an "all-inclusive" resort, which are nice, but look exactly the same all-around the world.
I spent some time visiting the city itself, and you can trust me, it's not worth... There are many more beautiful places to visit in Dominican Republic.
If anyone would like advices for a trip to RepDom, fell free to ask me !

I should have taken a movie of another room I saw, which was full of stinky empty beer bottles and used condoms packages !!! Anyway, you shouldn't go to Puerto Plata, which is a ghost city, with only one or two streets artificially alive for tourist...
