Stand up 4 your RIGHTS Americans. The REPUBLICANS have been FOOLING YOU for the last 30 yrs. SOCIAL^SECURITY*,_ (SS) , is NOT an entitlement! SS HAS A $2.6 TRILLION SURPLUS. SS CAN pay every claim at least until 2030. SS DOES NOT increase the federal budget by one cent! Tell the REPUBLICAN GANGSTERS & THEIR WALLSTREET BANDIT FRIENDS that you will FIGHT any PRIVATIZATION OF your SS pension. You will FIGHT ANY REDUCTION IN BENEFITS. YOU will FIGHT any change in AGE REQUIREMENT FOR SS BENEFITS!
You have to take a look at my channel and see the number 1 way to make a great income. No investment stop by and check out the videos. Good Luck to you.
We here at TPN believe the government should be allowed to steal as much as possible from the American people through the ponzi scheme known as Social Security
What is your argument for Social Security? How can it possibly be better than privatization? How can SS continue?
The fact is there shouldn't be social security. There are a lot of people that are relying solely on SS for their retirement. It was never intended for this but it's surprising how many dont have any other investments or money put back. It has given lower middle class folks a false sense of security. I have investments in the private sector, 401K, and the private sector didn't steal my money and spend it like gov has done with my SS that I paid in. So yeah I trust private more than government
maybe it should be privatized, with a person's name on the account, cuz then the government couldn't constantly dip into the funds for the program, thats why its going broke, not lack of money going in, too much going out when its not even supposed to!
nesnman, you asked us if we wanted to know what its worth now and then you told us.....
what it was worth in 1999...... when tech stocks were at their peak. As for blaming Obama, Videotime, if you know anyone on wall street who is taking massive losses selling at a time when prices are falling through the floor because there are no buyers just to avoid paying an additional 3% of taxes...... they probably need to find a new line of work.
The biggest liar of them all and he needs to be voted out next election. He's not owed anything-cause he never did anything worthy of electing him in for!Besides-we really think he's a little senile.Mostly for the Bush types he hangs out with!
that is exactly my point, if I know now that in 40 to 50 years there will be no money for the my generation then why keep going with this flawed SS system, I would not invest in the market with what I know now, but there is the certainty that a long term savings would do even better and taxes would be only on the interest since the rest has already been taxed, in the end, my money, my decission. Why my money, their decission, then me no money?...lol...simple
With the instability in the market right now. Yes, I am 23 and I follow the market Mad Money is my favorite show. I wouldn't trust placing my hard earned money in the market at the moment. To tell you the truth, I don't think either party can fix Social Security, the Baby Boomer Generation will pretty much tap it, leaving the X and Y generation with little to No Social Security and then my generation and generations after mine, will be left out cold. We don't need to fix, we need a NEW plan.
To tell you all the truth, when I hear that I will not have a social security check when I retire does piss me off so much, after I have paid so much into it since I was 16, 12 years so far and nothing for me when I am 66 or 67? Give me my money now, and I will take care of me for the future, I can add to my 401K, put it in a long term savings, what ever!!! the point is that if I have nothing when I retire, it will be because of me not because the government lost my money.
I'd rather control my own investment in my future retirement. I can take responsibility for my own future. I'd like to make my participation in social security optional because right now all I'm doing is paying into a giant welfare program which the government then borrows against with no intention to repay. Rather than reporting on petty democrat vs republican, he-said, she-said garbage, why don't you report on the true problems with social security and viable solutions?
If people were allowed to just take the amount of money that goes into Social Security, and put it into an index stock fund-- which is the simplest sort of investment, that is, it doesn't require any brains at all to do that-- a person who's retiring today would be getting (without taking one cent of taxes from anybody else) in the neighborhood of about eight thousand dollars a month.
This assumes of course, that the stock market remains predictable, the people investing the money are incorruptible by personal greed, and that the investors continue to always make the right choices.
Also, can you link the math for this statement? I'm not doubting, I just wanna see it cause that's a pretty interesting revelation and I wanna see how it's deduced.
You do realize that by investing in the stock market you are taking a HUGE risk especially now with economic uncertainty. Even IF the market was stable, sure that money you invest now, down the road would be a lot of money. But you have to understand the market, potential stocks may not be there 40 to 50 years from now. When you do decide to take money out of your stock IF it is worth anything,it will be highly taxed depending on how much you take out. So don't be fooled by the republicans.
You look at the market short term. Don't invest in it then. By the way . I purchased stock starting in 1986 including shares of Microsoft. Would you like to know what it's up to now?
I am talking about the lamest and the market, for the average person the market just looks bad, for people that knows how deal with it and come up on top then it is their perogative to take care of their future that way, but for JOE SIXPACK that only cares about something when their time comes then a simple savings account does just fine.
Well, Good luck with Social Security. My Broker purchased Microsoft Stock for me in 1986. . He invested $10,000 in Microsoft stock in 1986 and in 1999 it was worth around 2.7 million.
That is great that your investments have worked out for you, but like you state in another post in 1999 when the Technology Stocks were at their highest was 2.7 million. But what about now after the 9/11 stock crash and the current economic crisis. If you were take out your money (which i don't think you want to at this point) how much taxes would you have to pay on it.
The stock market works for everyone. It's long term. If you don't understand that then you shouldn't be invested. I am and I have also done very well. Obama is the reason the market has tanked.
I do understand that the Market is long term. I just don't see myself investing at this time, considering the uncertainty of which businesses may or may not exist at the end of this economic crisis.
How in the name of all that is holy or unholy can one man be the entire reason that the market has tanked.
Your statement that Obama is the reason the market has tanked, is unwarranted and without proof and dare I say Retarded. So please fornicate yourself with a rusty pipe
Was anyone shocked by his comment about fixing Social Security being easy in last night's debate? My jaw was on the floor! Easy - are you kidding? All we need to do is get Democrats and Republicans to sit down together in a room and presto - it's fixed? That was the lamest answer I have seen him give yet to any question, and I'd love to see the media call him out on it. And by the way, how on earth does he plan to fix it while reducing taxes across the board? Clearly, this is bogus.
Well would you rather social security money be just a promise or would you rather it actually be in an account with your name on it. Would you rather it be invested in nothing or be invested in things that might actually increase your payout? Social security is not a welfare program, but rather a forced savings program so people don't end up broke when they are at retirement age.
When the government is 10 trillion in debt, I'd rather have something more than an IOU.
its liberals not "iberals" and im damn proud to be a liberal, i love it! I wouldnt want to be known as a conservative thats another word for shithead and a loser, its been going around and the name is sticking... just like shit. So congrats on being shit... shithead
I think each individual should have the choice to contribute to SS or not. In my opinion I will not contribute to a fund that will go down in value as it ages as social security only pays out a fraction of what is put into it. You woudl literally be better putting your money in a sock under your bed and saving THAT for retirment. This is NOT a partisan issue this is a financial issue, America MUST educate itself. Check out the Fair Tax Act, it's what I support.
I went to the dermatologist the other day, thirty minute visit. There was no special procedure or equipment, he just looked at me and prescribed an antibacterial cream.
The bill? $701
This was an HMO doctor, that's whats wrong with privatization.
There should not be a charge for a visit period. If I could change it, I'd say that any service that "takes a look at something" should be free of charge or maybe a 20$ fee.
from car places to dentist offices.
They are just taking advantage of your insurence; and they try to weeed you into getting a checkup for nothing.
lol. Social security SHOULD be privatized. The federal government does not have the right to reach into individuals pockets and put their hard earned money into a "pot" that they did not choose to be apart of. Read the constitution people!!!!
It shouldn't exist in the first place. Hence no reason to fund it. It's unconstitutional to vote away someone's personal property! As well as there hard earned money. 12.4 % of everyone's income now goes to a pot that is unstable, inefficient and gets taxed by the government it's absurd. A joke.
Oh certainly not. The sole purpose of the income tax is to provide government the means to complete tasks that private industry simply cannot partake in. Such as roads, infrastructure in general, and the military. Infrastructure is primarily under the jurisdiction of local or state governments. So there is positively no reason why people should be paying a 30% federal income tax in the United States.
Over 80% of your tax dollars are going to payments to individuals. Because the Liberals in office seem to think they know how to micromanage society, and they know what to do with your money better then you do! They've managed to throw out the constitution, not that any of them have read it in the first place.
I recommend reading Miton Friedman's book: "Free to Choose." Or at the very least watch some of his videos here on youtube.
I don't like McCain at all, but why does this report only talk about McCain and privatization and not about the issue itself. Do the people who support social security not realize that the program, along with medicare are going to bankrupt the U.S? This is not a republican or democrat issue, this is a financial actuarial fact: there are far too many liabilities and nothing backing them. Someone needs to ask Obama what his solution is (and no, the status quo won't work)
I'm not going to think anymore about this, and i'm sure i'll be much better off,i'm taking the ignorance is bliss route i hope it dont offend you, maybe you should try it!
Almost every american working for a corporation today has a 401k account, a private account. They are going to rely on that much more than the their Social Security checks. If we all rely on our SS payout when we retire we will be living at the poverty level.
So McCain is trying to bring 401k like investments to all Americans.
so you want obama to be president and then when he fucks up u will blame it on george fagget bush vote for ralph nader because mccain and obama do not know shit about this damn country they will both run it into the ground

Who is gonna be McCain's VP because he's who'll be running the country if McCain gets elected. This man is too old and too ill to last a quarter of a term.
thanks for straightening me out on that. As a Ron Paul Republican, I thought he was a total conservative "sell out". Now I must put ONE check in McCain's "good column". He still stinks on the war, the constitution & bill of rights, so like other Ron Paul r3VOLutionaries, I'll be voting libertarian. May you Progressives enjoy your presidential win. What did you win? A centrist liberal called Obama, who voted YES on FISA bill, that ought to clue you in. Have some self respect, vote Green Party
. Look what the clinton had done to us in the last 8 years .gasoline price at 4.09 a gallon the iraq war the bad economy that we are having right now. At least George W. bush/Dick Cheney are trying to clean this mess up that the clinton had made in the last 8 years. We sure will miss Bush when he leave office he had been a better president then Bill Clinton. Say yes to George Bush Third term together we can make a big different.
But still President Bush had done alot of good thing for this country we sure will miss him Now i support Barack Obama for life as president of the united state of america oooooo 08"
He was a POW in Vietnam for 6 years, and he broke down under terrible torture. I wonder what tolls such torture has taken on McCain's life. Medical records pertaining to his PHYSICAL health were released, however, his MENTAL health records have yet to be to disclosed. The media has been too silent concerning this matter. Why?
I usually like Vercifier and TPM, but who the hell is this joke Joshua Marshall telling me how to think about the clips? I don't need your babying. He's boring, and makes me change videos everytime. He sucks as a public face and voice. No excitement.....BORING. Throw Joshua out.
Go ahead obama, call us Hillary supporters racists, sore loosers, uneducated, poor... or whatever you want, come November I will walk my poor, racist, uneducated looser and tired old bones to a voting center and vote for McCain.
What country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms.
I'm wondering if McCain sees that, in the future, there's a chance we won't have any money in Social Security for whatever reason. Everyone is already sceptical about having any SS when we get ready to retire in 30yrs or so. Could it be that he feels it's best for us to put our money in something that has a better chance of having money in it when we retire? I don't think anyone has addressed this point.?.?
I truly would like to read some comments of substance from those whose opinions differ from mine. I support Obama - not cuz he's Obama but because of what he's doing-
"Osama"? You, fubecabr, are an idiot.. Where are the videos of Obama lying like McInane?! .. .. ..ummmm ..hmmmm?
3:50 he speaks to this woman like she's a moron. Does he even want to lead us? All of us? U.S.? Obama does. He wants to be OUR leader- 'Pukecabr' how's that strike ya?
"Where are the videos of Obama lying like McInane"
I am not a McCain supporter. You want Obama lies? How about not knowing about the Rev. Wright's racism? He belonged to that church for 20 years, was married by him, and had his kids baptized by him.
"Does he even want to lead us? All of us? U.S.?"
I don't psychoanalize him.
"Obama does. He wants to be OUR leader-"
He wants to be president. RLY? So when he calls me a racist just because I'm white, he wants to be MY president?
Fube.. I.. oh, boy.. are you sayin that Obama calls you a racist becuz u'r white?? Come off of it. That's so baseless - really pathetic. you have an agenda that he doesn't fit into, I get that.. but come w somthn better so we can move 4wd- we can talk about whatever u want - I'll listen to your side - Obama will listen to your side
Hmph. Fube, I guess someone spamd ur comment. Not me. But wow, Obama, so honest and able to deal with real shit. Unlike our buddy Fube here.. see, I'm mixed so yeah I watch the way whites treat blacks and it's pretty fucked up. and also I can see how some whites are just frightened of anything non-white. Like, "what is it?!" Xenophobia - it's a weakness you will be forced to overcome -Sorry-
I must disagree with you my friend. McCain is dumber than Bush in terms of the economy. McCain has Gramm (S&L crisis, energy crisis, and mortgage crisis) and Carly Fiorina who almost destroyed HP on his economic team. Warren Buffet endorsed Obama because McCain's economic policies would straight out bankrupt the country.
well, we won't argue which is dumb and which is dumber-er, but we can agree that both have ruined the economy and put enormous burdens on the future of the US and going forward, both are unacceptable. The economy almost always improves when a Democrat is in the White House and almost always deteriorates when a RepublicanT is there.
What's wrong with calling him Osama when McCain is called McSame or McPain, etc? Especially in light of his terrorist connections with Bill Ayers or Rashid Khalidi?
"What's wrong with calling him Osama when McCain is called McSame or McPain, etc? Especially in light of his terrorist connections with Bill Ayers or Rashid Khalidi?" Typical rightwing media bred ignorance. You don't even know the difference between satire, bigotry and facts fubecabr..
I am saying fubecabr that because Barak Obama met or knows, William Ayers a professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, a member of his Chicago community and a political activist in the '60's means and proves nothing. I have met, known and worked with many political activists from the "60's. Most have became productive contributors to society. You are laboring under the influence of social ignoramuses and professional liars like Sean Hannity who contributes nothing positive.
I never said anything about hippies. You obviously have a very limited knowledge of the politics and political atmosphere of the '60's. Oppression was such that many activists used many different means to bring about change including bombs, guns and Molotov cocktails. Many went to jail and returned to be thoughtful contributors to society. I know this because I was there as a publisher, and activist. None of this effects Obama. Like it or not, you sound like Hannity fubecabr.
No, you didn't and was jokingly calling them all hippies.
"Oppression was such that many activists used many different means to bring about change including bombs, guns and Molotov cocktails."
I don't agree with violence. Oppression in the US was laughable compared to a person under Chairman Mao, over in China or someone in Korea under Kim Il Sung.
"Many went to jail and returned to be thoughtful contributors to society."
You obviously don't know much about politics during the depression when communism was a welcomed thought among American workers. Or that blacks were not only discriminated against but also forced into a form of legalized slavery right up until the end of WWII. You were not there to witness the poor migrate from southern discrimination to northern industrial unemployment lines and more discrimination. Many supported the Cuban revolution. Mao's little red book was popular reading in the sixties.
I'm not trying to sell you anything fubecabr. This discussion was about oppression and unrest in the United States and why certain people behaved the way they did. This country has quite a history of it. Full employment for whom and according to whom? The people who fled hangings, torture and poverty in the south? The farmers driven off of their lands by bankers, business and government? The uneducated without a union?
From 1950 to 1959, US unemployment was 4.4% which is at or near full employment. GDP growth averaged 4%.
I have no doubt that blacks were oppressed in the 50s and 60s, particularly in the deep south.
But Bill Ayers isn't black. You can't blame racial discrimination against blacks for his crimes.
Most of the discontent in the 60's and 70's centered around the immoral vietnam war and the associated draft and of course the racial problems you mentioned.
Fubecabr which government statistics to you think are the most accurate, those based on the census in 1959 or those based on today's stats? It might help you to know that employment stats are based on those who return looking for a job not those who don't return.
Ayers Weathermen group had Maoist roots. The roots of the "peace" movement were anti imperialist and anti capitalist. They are the reasons that led us to war in the first place. The economy is always at the root of oppression.
During the Depression, the Soviet Union's economy was actually going up and there was a large influx of immigrants and the United States was actually seeing a near halt of population growth and the economy was down slope.
I was an activist as a high school student and a Gandhiist (supporter of non violent protest) before I ever heard of Martin Luther King. There was nothing laughable about the number and living conditions of the poor in the 50's and 60's. Hippies were an after thought. "Sure, but Ayers has no regrets." Show me the exact quote in context where he said that and not some paraphrase from Sean Hannity or some other right wing idiot. (It still has nothing to do with Obama).
"I don't regret setting bombs" and "I feel we didn't do enough", and, when asked if he would "do it all again" as saying "I don't want to discount the possibility."
"No Regrets for a Love Of Explosives; In a Memoir of Sorts, a War Protester Talks of Life With the Weathermen," The New York Times, September 11, 2001

"Like it or not, you sound like Hannity fubecabr."
When have I been whoring myself for King George? When have I defended the illegal invasion of Iraq? When have I defended King George's revocation of the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th amendments?
I think Bush is the WORST president in history whereas Hannity, Rush, Medved, etc think he's one of the best.
I understand your feeling offended fubecabr. I apologize for associating you with that feckless hoard of self-serving, anti-American, miscreants. But you must realize that your comments about Obama's relationship to Ayers are the same kind of fact-bereft assertions that Sean Hannity and others of his ilk have made. It is stupid to assume that because Obama knew someone from Chicago who did something in the 60's that he was, somehow, contaminated by him without a shred of corroborating evidence
So a couple of years after the GOP killed pension plans they are going after social security? The motto should be, "well keeping taking stuff away until you scream." What would be the plan for all the seniors who end up with nothing, throw them out on the street? Don't we have enough homeless people?
The Repugnants have done a lot of things, but I don't remember them killing pension plans. I do remember them bailing out the airlines and their pensions.
The GOP indirectly killed pension plans by letting the top management of companies have their own seperate retirement plan. Pension plans used to cover everyone in a company from the janitor to the CEO, but with no direct incentive, top management will only have a plan good enough for you not to quit.
and thatbynddrvn5 is on top of the corporate welfare that many companies get thanks to the RepublicanTs, including the Oil companies which earned $40 BILLION IN ONE QUARTER while still getting tax breaks.
If you are a Republican Vote Libertarian. (Bob Barr) it is the only way to send a message to Washington. Republicans cant agree any more. They are beginning to split.
Bob Barr-Get his name out Lets start rising the Libertarian party now-The true conservatives. They believe in the constitution.
Republicans have been pushing for a Gobal world order and that what Iraq was about. They change people like mccain into their paid slaves.
"If you are a Republican Vote Libertarian." The dumbass christians and neocons want nothing to do with the libertarian party. But yes, fiscal conservatives belong in the libertarian party.
"Republicans have been pushing for a Gobal world order"
Not just the Repugnants, but the Rats as well.
"They change people like mccain into their paid slaves."
Why is it always overweight gay guys like the one in this video that can't get the facts straight, no matter what issue they speak to and resort to misquoting and twisting to make a point?
fubecabr, how old are you ,do you live in the usa, do you have anyone collecting social security?
Is it fair for people that have paid into SS for 40+ years to hear you say"whats wrong with getting rid of SS",think before you type.
The SS system is broken because of greedy politicians borrowing untold billions and never paying it back,as of right now, the current value of SS entitlements is over 40-50 trillion, the usa is headed for a finacial disater....
"Is it fair for people that have paid into SS for 40+ years to hear you say"whats wrong with getting rid of SS",think before you type."
Of course they should get it after paying into it for 40 years. The point is that it's a mathematically impossible system to sustain and needs to be phased out.
And again, it's immoral to take from A to give to B, forcibly. That's called stealing and is the same whether you do it or you elect people to do it for you.
What's wrong with getting rid of Socialist Stupidity?
I say it's morally wrong to take from one person at gunpoint, and give it to another. It makes no difference if an individual does it or if individuals vote for people that will do it for them.
I'm trying to discern the magic trick you use to divine stupidity fubecabr. So if a majority of American Citizens Democratically decide that having insurance companies and drug companies running our health care delivery system is not in our best interest and that socialized medicine is better for everyone's health we should be stopped from achieving this at gun point because the word "social" was used. Is that what you mean tenderfoot?
You're forgetting that government is already heavily involved in the health care system via medicare and medicaid.
The government gave the insurance companies a lot of control over health care via the Health Maintenance Organization Act of 1972.
Before government got involved, health care wasn't nearly as expensive as it is now. The law of supply and demand is as irrevocable as gravity. If you subsidize something, more of it will be demanded and the price will go up.
"I'm trying to discern the magic trick you use to divine stupidity fubecabr."
I'm trying to discern the magic trick that legislates more doctors, nurses, CT machines, and new drugs into existence, especially if wages and prices are fixed.
Looks like you need to go take Econ 101.
Can you tell me of a SINGLE solitary thing the government does well or hasn't screwed up. DMV? Nope. Military? Nope. The dollar? Nope, it's toilet paper now.
I guess you missed the point fubecabr. The problem is what corporations have done to government. If we had a government of the people that was making the mistakes you complain about you might have a point but corporations are controlling everything from our foreign policy (war) to our environment, to what kind of seeds farmers can buy while corporate media keep you in the dark and feed you bullsh*t. Corporatism is the problem not socialism. Maybe you should take social studies 101 sparky.
Corporations do run the government, indirectly. 87% of americans believe the country's headed in the wrong direction and yet they'll keep voting in the same assholes.
We need to vote out every incumbent except Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich.
"Corporatism is the problem not socialism."
Socialism has failed every time it's tried.
If corporations really ran the country, then why do we have one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world with Osama threatening to raise them further?
"Socialism has failed every time it's tried" Don't tell Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Canada or Great Britain fubecabr. You seem to have a phobia about the word socialism. Maybe it has something to do with corporate propaganda. "then why do we have one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world with Osama threatening to raise them". You're really getting ridiculous. Taxes with subsidies and no regulations and neither Osama or Obama are threatening anything. Stick to facts not your beliefs.
"Corporations do run the government, indirectly." Mighty white of you to admit this fubecabr. particularly when you consider that a Whitehouse full of oil barons took us to war for oil and Lockheed Martin is one of the most powerful lobbyist's in Washington while Drug companies hire senators for millions after they leave office and lobbyists fund just about everyone in congress.
With $140/bbl oil, everyone and their brother wants to drill.
As for the price of oil, you can lay the blame square at the feet of the environmentalist wackos. They won't let oil companies drill for oil, anywhere. They won't let oil companies build new refineries. They won't let us build nuclear power plants.
You forgot another instance of corporations underhandedly influencing the government. The housing bailout bill before congress now was written by Cuntrywide and Bank of America.
Today's News:Tax Credits of $8.5 Billion Received by 22 Drug Makers
The General Accounting Office said yesterday that 22 American drug makers received $8.5 billion in Federal tax credits in the 1980's under a plan designed to increase employment in Puerto Rico. But, the report said, the tax credits were more than double the amount the companies spent on employee payrolls in Puerto Rico.
"Today's News:Tax Credits of $8.5 Billion Received by 22 Drug Makers"
Once again, the government gets involved and screws things up.
You see, this is the whole problem with government intervening and becoming everyone's sugar daddy.
Government should only exist to provide for the common defense, provide a justice system, enforce contracts, limit externalities, and protect our civil liberties.
Once again fubecabr, it's corporations screwing up our government in their favor. Put the people in charge before you critique a government of the people. Until then you have no argument.
Did the corporations create social security? Medicare? Did the corporations create the EPA? Did the corporations create the oppressive CFR? The SEC?
"Put the people in charge before you critique a government of the people"
We do have a government of the people and the village idiot is president. Traitor Bush is merely a microcosm of America. In other words, Traitor Bush is Homer Simpson. I guess in a way that's a good thing since he could have done a lot more damage if he was smarter.
You are either being flippant or obtuse fubecabr. You have already admitted that corporations have been running and ruining the government. You can't have it both ways when it suits your utterances. It was corporations that put the incompetent yes man dufus in power. He just made the existing dysfunction blatantly obvious. The corporate media doesn't even allow a reasonable discussion of real issues among the people. You have no argument.
Why would the corporations put such an incompetent man in charge?
"The corporate media doesn't even allow a reasonable discussion"
Faux News, NY Times, CNNBS, PMSNBC, Al-Reuters, etc are living fossils. No body in my age group reads newspapers or watches TV news.
"You can't have it both ways when it suits your utterances"
Yes, corporations do exert a lot of control. But they don't exert total control. If they exerted total control, there would be no corporate tax and no regulations.
"No body in my age group reads newspapers or watches TV news." This is a completely baseless and incorrect statement. Fubecabr
"Why would the corporations put such an incompetent man in charge? " "But they don't exert total control." This meaningless, they don't even control their own corporations well. The point is wealth and power not excellence.
Both regulations and taxes are minimal compared to the benefits and extent of control. You must be very young tenderfoot.
Top marginal rate for corporations is 38%. While some in some industries to receive significant tax breaks, some do not. 38% is a confiscatory rate and if corporations really completely controlled things, then the rate would be much lower or non-existant.
According to the OMB, compliances costs are $38-44 Billion. How you can you say that $38-44 billion is minimal?
What are obscene profits? Oil company profit margins were 7.6% last year. Starbucks' profit margin is 9.7%. I don't hear the libs whining and complaining about the obscene profits that Starbucks earns. In fact, I see a lot of Obama voters at Starbucks.
"You may die waiting in line for a surgery in Canada" Name one person who died waiting for surgery fubecabr. The countries mentioned are not in worse shape economically than the U.S.
"As for the price of oil, you can lay the blame square at the feet of the environmentalist wackos" Wrong again fubecabr. The price of oil has been deliberately driven up by speculators, hoarders and the failure to refine crude. Ask an economist or Saudi Arabia. Do you always invent your own reality fubecabr?
Albeit originally stated facetiously this is a fact. If you can disprove it do so. "The price of oil has been deliberately driven up by speculators, hoarders..."
Who's hoarding oil? EIA shows that crude and distillate inventories are below where they should be. Do you know how hard and expensive it is to do that?
If I speculate that the price of gold will be $5000/oz next year, and buy futures contracts accordingly, and that doesn't materialize, I LOSE money.
You can do the same with stocks. I can buy options contract, speculating on the price of a stock. If the price doesn't go the way I need to it, I LOSE money. This scenario happens everyday.
Did I mention that corporations have also decided who gets elected and what the issues should be? BTW president Eisenhower predicted that this would happen (was happening) at the end of WWII fubecabr. You need to find another source of information.
On Privatizing Social Security, If this is good then let the govt. first try it on our income tax. Five states in 2010 and then add 5 states each following year. If it is not very risky then why not income tax first? It should work so well that we all would eventually be making profits rather than ever owing. Right? Doing income tax first would be a testimony to their confidense in such a plan!
deport: Up with sociopathological behavior? Up with silly conspiracy theories? Up with a society that is a failure because it lacks social justice? Up with behaving hypocritically in front of the world? Up with pretending that the income tax is not a creature of the congress?
McCain SUCKSSSSSS, BIATCH!!! His only claim to fame is that he was in the hole for a few years in Vietnam. That doesn't make him presidential material, BIATCH!!!!!!!!!!
So this is the way it's going to be with president Obama. Whoever opposes or disagrees with him is a racist. Also we all saw Obama in an Islamic madresa in indonesia and he was much much older than 2 years old. Obama already has plans to reward and abhease regimes like the Iranian murderous islamic dictatorship. He is from the same stock.
Exactamundo Nin1963! Under the radar indeed! With only six major corporations controlling our public airwaves and Mainstream Media, it's little wonder that we have a bumper crop of two legged mushrooms accustomed to being kept in the dark and fed bullsh*t. They've become so dependent upon the steady flow of manure that they support the status quo and attack anyone who wants to change it. (This is not a plug for Obama, He's too much of a centrist to address corporatism directly)

We here at TPN believe the government should be allowed to steal as much as possible from the American people through the ponzi scheme known as Social Security
What is your argument for Social Security? How can it possibly be better than privatization? How can SS continue?
jjrglobal 2 years ago
Anyone that believes a ponzi scheme will work is an idiot
jjrglobal 2 years ago
Who wouldn't want SS privatized? We damn sure cant trust the government to not steal.
jjrglobal 2 years ago
but you trust private business not to rob you blind?
can you name a SINGLE private industry that is not trying to swindle you of all your money?
evilblades 2 years ago

As for blaming Obama, Videotime, if you know anyone on wall street who is taking massive losses selling at a time when prices are falling through the floor because there are no buyers just to avoid paying an additional 3% of taxes...... they probably need to find a new line of work.

that is exactly my point, if I know now that in 40 to 50 years there will be no money for the my generation then why keep going with this flawed SS system, I would not invest in the market with what I know now, but there is the certainty that a long term savings would do even better and taxes would be only on the interest since the rest has already been taxed, in the end, my money, my decission. Why my money, their decission, then me no money?...lol...simple
briggs9187 3 years ago
With the instability in the market right now. Yes, I am 23 and I follow the market Mad Money is my favorite show. I wouldn't trust placing my hard earned money in the market at the moment. To tell you the truth, I don't think either party can fix Social Security, the Baby Boomer Generation will pretty much tap it, leaving the X and Y generation with little to No Social Security and then my generation and generations after mine, will be left out cold. We don't need to fix, we need a NEW plan.
HieiYYH2 3 years ago
To tell you all the truth, when I hear that I will not have a social security check when I retire does piss me off so much, after I have paid so much into it since I was 16, 12 years so far and nothing for me when I am 66 or 67? Give me my money now, and I will take care of me for the future, I can add to my 401K, put it in a long term savings, what ever!!! the point is that if I have nothing when I retire, it will be because of me not because the government lost my money.
briggs9187 3 years ago
I'd rather control my own investment in my future retirement. I can take responsibility for my own future. I'd like to make my participation in social security optional because right now all I'm doing is paying into a giant welfare program which the government then borrows against with no intention to repay. Rather than reporting on petty democrat vs republican, he-said, she-said garbage, why don't you report on the true problems with social security and viable solutions?
mkebrewcrew 3 years ago
If people were allowed to just take the amount of money that goes into Social Security, and put it into an index stock fund-- which is the simplest sort of investment, that is, it doesn't require any brains at all to do that-- a person who's retiring today would be getting (without taking one cent of taxes from anybody else) in the neighborhood of about eight thousand dollars a month.
TELEVISIONARCHIVES 3 years ago
This assumes of course, that the stock market remains predictable, the people investing the money are incorruptible by personal greed, and that the investors continue to always make the right choices.
Also, can you link the math for this statement? I'm not doubting, I just wanna see it cause that's a pretty interesting revelation and I wanna see how it's deduced.
AkimboJoe 3 years ago
Do you know that Senators and Congress have a pension that is invested in the stock market?
nesnman 3 years ago
You do realize that by investing in the stock market you are taking a HUGE risk especially now with economic uncertainty. Even IF the market was stable, sure that money you invest now, down the road would be a lot of money. But you have to understand the market, potential stocks may not be there 40 to 50 years from now. When you do decide to take money out of your stock IF it is worth anything,it will be highly taxed depending on how much you take out. So don't be fooled by the republicans.
HieiYYH2 3 years ago
You look at the market short term. Don't invest in it then. By the way . I purchased stock starting in 1986 including shares of Microsoft. Would you like to know what it's up to now?
nesnman 3 years ago
I am talking about the lamest and the market, for the average person the market just looks bad, for people that knows how deal with it and come up on top then it is their perogative to take care of their future that way, but for JOE SIXPACK that only cares about something when their time comes then a simple savings account does just fine.
briggs9187 3 years ago
Well, Good luck with Social Security. My Broker purchased Microsoft Stock for me in 1986. . He invested $10,000 in Microsoft stock in 1986 and in 1999 it was worth around 2.7 million.
nesnman 3 years ago
That is great that your investments have worked out for you, but like you state in another post in 1999 when the Technology Stocks were at their highest was 2.7 million. But what about now after the 9/11 stock crash and the current economic crisis. If you were take out your money (which i don't think you want to at this point) how much taxes would you have to pay on it.
HieiYYH2 3 years ago
The stock market works for everyone. It's long term. If you don't understand that then you shouldn't be invested. I am and I have also done very well. Obama is the reason the market has tanked.
TELEVISIONARCHIVES 3 years ago
I do understand that the Market is long term. I just don't see myself investing at this time, considering the uncertainty of which businesses may or may not exist at the end of this economic crisis.
How in the name of all that is holy or unholy can one man be the entire reason that the market has tanked.
Your statement that Obama is the reason the market has tanked, is unwarranted and without proof and dare I say Retarded. So please fornicate yourself with a rusty pipe
HieiYYH2 3 years ago
Do you know anyone that work on Wall St? I do. They do blame Obama for the market downfall. Many investors are selling off before the tax increases.

The people should own the government.
The governemnt should not own the people.

There should not be a charge for a visit period. If I could change it, I'd say that any service that "takes a look at something" should be free of charge or maybe a 20$ fee.
from car places to dentist offices.

nagzul 3 years ago
lol. Social security SHOULD be privatized. The federal government does not have the right to reach into individuals pockets and put their hard earned money into a "pot" that they did not choose to be apart of. Read the constitution people!!!!
crackillsobegood 3 years ago
great. so how do you and daddy warbucks propose we fund SS??
foxilocks2007 3 years ago
It shouldn't exist in the first place. Hence no reason to fund it. It's unconstitutional to vote away someone's personal property! As well as there hard earned money. 12.4 % of everyone's income now goes to a pot that is unstable, inefficient and gets taxed by the government it's absurd. A joke.
Ron Paul 08!
crackillsobegood 3 years ago
So do you believe in eliminating taxes completely?
MarimbaVirtuoso 3 years ago
Oh certainly not. The sole purpose of the income tax is to provide government the means to complete tasks that private industry simply cannot partake in. Such as roads, infrastructure in general, and the military. Infrastructure is primarily under the jurisdiction of local or state governments. So there is positively no reason why people should be paying a 30% federal income tax in the United States.
crackillsobegood 3 years ago
Over 80% of your tax dollars are going to payments to individuals. Because the Liberals in office seem to think they know how to micromanage society, and they know what to do with your money better then you do! They've managed to throw out the constitution, not that any of them have read it in the first place.
I recommend reading Miton Friedman's book: "Free to Choose." Or at the very least watch some of his videos here on youtube.
crackillsobegood 3 years ago
I don't like McCain at all, but why does this report only talk about McCain and privatization and not about the issue itself. Do the people who support social security not realize that the program, along with medicare are going to bankrupt the U.S? This is not a republican or democrat issue, this is a financial actuarial fact: there are far too many liabilities and nothing backing them. Someone needs to ask Obama what his solution is (and no, the status quo won't work)

So McCain is trying to bring 401k like investments to all Americans.

William Ayers was not just a mere hippy of the 60s. Most hippies did not use bombs, but used bongs.

Sure and I bet those people did not use bombs in their activism.
Who says I listen to Hannity? He's a neo-con asshole. I agree he's a professional liar.
fubecabr 3 years ago

Sure, but Ayers has no regrets.

Mao's little red book was popular reading in the sixties.
easymike 3 years ago
I have studied the depression. When did I even mention the depression?
"communism was a welcomed thought among American workers."
And we got some communism with the New Deal.
"Many supported the Cuban revolution."
Um, the depression was from 1929 to 1940. The cuban revolution was in 1959. In 1959, we had full employment.
"Mao's little red book was popular reading in the sixties."
How did Mao's socialism turn out? Oh, that's right, 38 to 76 million people dead.

The uneducated without a union?
easymike 3 years ago
From 1950 to 1959, US unemployment was 4.4% which is at or near full employment. GDP growth averaged 4%.
I have no doubt that blacks were oppressed in the 50s and 60s, particularly in the deep south.
But Bill Ayers isn't black. You can't blame racial discrimination against blacks for his crimes.
Most of the discontent in the 60's and 70's centered around the immoral vietnam war and the associated draft and of course the racial problems you mentioned.
fubecabr 3 years ago

I do remember them bailing out the airlines and their pensions.
fubecabr 3 years ago
The GOP indirectly killed pension plans by letting the top management of companies have their own seperate retirement plan. Pension plans used to cover everyone in a company from the janitor to the CEO, but with no direct incentive, top management will only have a plan good enough for you not to quit.

But may i remind you that "NEW DEAL" is also a kind of socialism WHICH HELPED AMERICA OUT OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION.

Is that what you mean tenderfoot?
easymike 3 years ago

Maybe you should take social studies 101 sparky.
easymike 3 years ago
Corporations do run the government, indirectly. 87% of americans believe the country's headed in the wrong direction and yet they'll keep voting in the same assholes.
We need to vote out every incumbent except Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich.
"Corporatism is the problem not socialism."
Socialism has failed every time it's tried.
If corporations really ran the country, then why do we have one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world with Osama threatening to raise them further?
fubecabr 3 years ago
"Socialism has failed every time it's tried" Don't tell Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Canada or Great Britain fubecabr. You seem to have a phobia about the word socialism. Maybe it has something to do with corporate propaganda. "then why do we have one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world with Osama threatening to raise them". You're really getting ridiculous. Taxes with subsidies and no regulations and neither Osama or Obama are threatening anything. Stick to facts not your beliefs.
easymike 3 years ago
Norway and Canada have benefited greatly from the commodity boom of the last 5 years.
The UK has a housing bubble of epic proportions and will have a depression.
Sweden's welfare state is on the brink of bankruptcy due to a flood of immigration. Real unemployment estimates vary from 8-20%.
You may die waiting in line for a surgery in Canada.
"Taxes with subsidies"
Depends on the industry.
"and no regulations"
How can you say that? Ever read the CFR? It's thousands of pages long.

"You can't have it both ways when it suits your utterances"
Yes, corporations do exert a lot of control. But they don't exert total control. If they exerted total control, there would be no corporate tax and no regulations.
fubecabr 3 years ago
"No body in my age group reads newspapers or watches TV news." This is a completely baseless and incorrect statement. Fubecabr
"Why would the corporations put such an incompetent man in charge? " "But they don't exert total control." This meaningless, they don't even control their own corporations well. The point is wealth and power not excellence.
Both regulations and taxes are minimal compared to the benefits and extent of control. You must be very young tenderfoot.
easymike 3 years ago
Top marginal rate for corporations is 38%. While some in some industries to receive significant tax breaks, some do not. 38% is a confiscatory rate and if corporations really completely controlled things, then the rate would be much lower or non-existant.
According to the OMB, compliances costs are $38-44 Billion. How you can you say that $38-44 billion is minimal?

"As for the price of oil, you can lay the blame square at the feet of the environmentalist wackos" Wrong again fubecabr. The price of oil has been deliberately driven up by speculators, hoarders and the failure to refine crude. Ask an economist or Saudi Arabia. Do you always invent your own reality fubecabr?
easymike 3 years ago
"The price of oil has been deliberately driven up by speculators, hoarders and the failure to refine crude. Ask an economist or Saudi Arabia."
While the futures price is determined by speculation, the spot price is not. The spot price is set by supply and demand.
Speculators can speculate all they want on the price. If the supply and demand doesn't later materialize, they lose their shirts.
Where's saudi arabia accepting less than the market price?
And what economists are you talking about?
fubecabr 3 years ago
Albeit originally stated facetiously this is a fact. If you can disprove it do so. "The price of oil has been deliberately driven up by speculators, hoarders..."
easymike 3 years ago
Who's hoarding oil? EIA shows that crude and distillate inventories are below where they should be. Do you know how hard and expensive it is to do that?
If I speculate that the price of gold will be $5000/oz next year, and buy futures contracts accordingly, and that doesn't materialize, I LOSE money.
You can do the same with stocks. I can buy options contract, speculating on the price of a stock. If the price doesn't go the way I need to it, I LOSE money. This scenario happens everyday.
