ahh, ok. well, it's Billy Sheehan.....he's gonna be ridiculous if the song called for it. Paul was actually tearing it up pretty well in his solo. I mean, they do know what their audience comes to see when they come see them. besides, I don't think they were forming an actual copy band. they were just wanting to play some Who songs in their style.

Townshend has said that smashing a guitar every night taught him how to actually shatter it into splinters rather than just breaking the neck off it. There are certain ways to hit it on the ground. He also said he learned that if the guitar was a Strat, a specific number of whacks was needed so that he knew which was going to be the final one. He counted the number of whacks to the ground and made the final blow as dramatic as he could. He had it down to a science.

(This is rather strange for Paul as he has almost always used Ibanez Guitars. I'm assuming he didn't want to smash any of his Ibanezes!)

@TheKraken93 No, all of his guitars are Ibanez. The SG and Les Paul's you see him use are custom built (I believe, but they may have been production) Ibanez. It can be hard to tell due to the un-Ibanezish headstock's of the guitars, and the fact that Ibanez is written in the old Sphagetti (I know I misspelled that) style.

@slashsdevil If that is an Ibanez, it's a 100% replica of the Epiphone, (I have one). The shape, knobs, colours, positioning of things, the hardware, tuners, fretboard and even the layout and look of the logos are exactly the same!

Also, I believe I've seen him using Danelectro guitars, the only other non-Ibanez guitar I can remember him playing.
