I am so sorry to see GL go, I am shock, what made them go after so many years? I was watching, I taped when I could not and could not wait to see that days episode. GL is so much better than all the other soaps, I loved the characters, they way they filmed it outside alot, there was comedy that you don't get with the others. I am truly going to miss it. We need a movie or something to keep the light burning.

CBS should rethink cancelling GuidingLight. It is the longest running soap so that should mean something. If GuidingLight does go off the air there will be alot of people that will stop watching CBS.

well i'd hate to tell you this, it wouldn't be a huge dent in CBS's viewership. it's allegedly being replaced by a new version of the Pyramid game show called $1,000,000 Pyramid so I predict a ratings boost for the time slot. Of the 8 soaps currently running on daytime tv, GL is dead last in every ratings category and has been for a long time. In fact, they struggle to get 1.5 million viewers per episode. It's time that GL is put to rest.

The show may conclude this fall but the spirit of the light will live on.

did they count the millions of people who recorded the show while they worked or in school into thier ratings? no they did not.its lets make a deal going into the time slot.like we are going to watch it.ellen wheeler is solely responsible for gl demize.she cut budget and writers and did a lot of exterior shooting.outdoor scenes were good butshe cut to many corners the last few years.cbs sucks .hope someone comes up with a new guiding light with same cast.

I totally agree....I always felt that little connection with my mom watching GL -I started watching this show with my Mom...she passed in 1980 and I still watch this show daily.

I cant believe GL is being switched off. It has always been one of my favourites.

The last time CBS threated to drop Guiding Light. Proctor and Gamble who make the show threatened to pull ATWT aswell and offer both shows to a rival network. I wonder if B&B will increase to 1 hour now

GLDaily, I called P&G and TeleNext both this morning, and I just wanted to tell everyone that these people ARE just like us! They are absolutely sweet! They are just as devastated as we are. And I was assurred that they are doing everything in their power to find GL a new home! Had a lengthy conversation with both places, but they said GL has a strong fan base, which they are finding out and keep doing what we are doing!! Call, write, email!!

I'm not defending CBS, but the bottom line is the bottom line on this one. It's cheaper to put in a one hour talk program or run a game show than it is to produce an original scripted television program. Why do you think NBC cancelled E/R? So they could make room for Jay Leno weeknights at 10pm. It's cheaper.

It wouldn't surprise me if World Turns was next.

I respect your opinion but the bottom line is that CBS is dirty and the problem with CBS is the WAY that they handled this NOT that they cancelled. Don't get me wrong, I'm pissed that it was cancelled BUT CBS and all of the exe's are cowards and make me sick!! CBS can rot in hell for all I care, I'll buy them the one-way ticket straight to hell!! You don't tell people 1 thing and then not even have the balls to come out and tell them the truth! Wait for leaks and then have your hand pushed!

Just don't forget, Telenext is aggressively searching for a new Network on which to air Guiding Light. Even if a network isn't found, it's also a viable idea that GL becomes the first international, pay-per-month soap opera. There are plenty of options, there's a large, loyal, loud fanbase, and GL has THE world record. Don't count the show out yet, keep the faith everyone. Don't think about the cancellation while watching either. Just enjoy the show, it is great right now!! :)

You are right. it's best to keep positive and don't think about the cancellation. Guiding Light has shown a lot of amazing storylines for the last 72 years. I'm hoping that they'll continue to show it on TV other than CBS.

When I found out that CBS is cancelling Guiding Light, I was so upset. Guiding Light showed a lot of good storylines for the past 72 years and showed a lot of amazing couples like Jeva, Bizzie and other couples. I just called into daytimeconfidential tonight as well as leaving a post on the thread for "tell them what you think." I told CBS they are DEAD to me! I will watch GL to the bitter end, but that's it! They have slung shit in my face for the last damn time!  CBS can go to HELL and I've got the one-way ticket for them! Barbara Bloom all of a sudden as the balls to fight like hell to keep the BIG stars on CBS, well where the hell were her balls when GL needed fighting for her?

If Passions could make it over to DirecTV, Guiding Light, which is produced at a tiny fraction of the cost of what Passions was now, can most certainly live on. Ugh! I hate CBS for this! Please Please PLEASE someone pick up the show! I really want the show to be on so that i can get my Bizzie! I also want a Manny return so someone better pick it up!
